‘Absolutely pathetic' decision as Dean Henderson avoids red card at Wembley
Speaking on ITV, former Palace striker Ian Wright said: 'How this is not denying a goalscoring opportunity, it's absolutely pathetic. It's crazy, he's going to tap that past him and then he's just going to tap that into the goal.
🗣️ "How they could say this is not denying a goalscoring opportunity is PATHETIC!" – @IanWright0
💬 "That is one of the worst decisions I've seen in football." – @JoleonLescott

'Why are they making up these rules and saying it so eloquently? To confuse us? That's supposed to be a sending off.'
Former City defender Joleon Lescott went even further in his assessment, adding: 'That's one of the worst decisions I've seen in football. Because of the explanation, not because of the decision. To deem that is not a goalscoring opportunity, one of the most prolific goalscorers we've seen.'
Similar views were expressed by former England captain Wayne Rooney on BBC, who said: 'It is a red card – how can they get this wrong? Just get rid of VAR. They have made a mistake and now they are trying to cover up. It is a red card and everyone can see it's a red card.'
To rub salt into City's wound, Henderson went on to save a penalty from Omar Marmoush after Eberechi Eze had given Palace the lead.

Moyes confident hungry Jack Grealish can bring excitement back to Everton
David Moyes has said Jack Grealish's determination to relaunch his career and prove people wrong in the process convinced him that the Manchester City outcast could bring excitement back to Everton. Grealish is 'looking fabulous, in great shape' and in contention to feature in Everton's Premier League opener at Leeds on Monday, according to Moyes, despite not playing in pre‑season having fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola. The 29-year-old started only seven league games for City last season and was left out of their 27-man squad for the Club World Cup this summer. He was also omitted from the England squad last summer for the European Championship after losing his place following City's 2023 treble-winning campaign. Moyes 'tried to get as much information as I could' on Grealish's problems at City, although he has not spoken to Guardiola about what occurred, but says the player's hunger to recapture the form that made him Britain's first £100m footballer banished any doubts over the loan. 'The knowledge that he thinks he's got a little bit to prove and to stand up,' the Everton manager said on what convinced him to sign the England player. 'I've had to do that myself. I've had to come back from being knocked down. Sometimes you have to have that resilience to bounce back, to fight back and to show everybody. I just sense Jack is carrying that with him now. I hope it shows through this season because, if it does, then we'll get a lot of good things from Jack.' Grealish was Everton's sixth summer signing – a seventh soon followed in the goalkeeper Tom King – but the squad remains light in several departments with various transfer targets missed. Moyes believes the legacy of recent relegation scraps and no European football has deterred some players but, with Grealish on board, Everton have stated their ambitions clearly. 'It is a big thing for me,' Moyes said. 'The club have done brilliantly to build a new stadium. I think now there has to be a building of a football club back inside it, to get it back to where it was and more importantly to get the team back to where it was. We are a long way off at the moment. I don't think we can do that in this window and make the team what we want it to be, but we are going to need people along the journey to make it more exciting and make people want to come and play. There's been quite a few players who I've been disappointed have not chosen to come to Everton this summer and I think that's because, if you look at the last four or five years, we've not been in great shape. Hopefully they are beginning to see a new stadium, great results in the second half of last season, and they start to believe Everton is a good home for them.'

Manchester City prepare sensational swoop for Real Madrid star if Savinho joins Tottenham this summer
Manchester City will consider an approach for Real Madrid 's Rodrygo should Savinho leave. Savinho was left out of the matchday squad for City's Premier League opener as Pep Guardiola 's side comfortably defeated Wolves on Saturday. The 21-year-old only arrived in Manchester last summer and contributed eight Premier League assists in his maiden campaign at the Etihad. However, after finding himself falling down the pecking order amid more arrivals this summer Savinho is intent on leaving the club in search of first team football, with Tottenham reported to be interested. Should Savinho leave this summer, City have earmarked his countryman Rodrygo as a potential replacement. The Brazilian has already won two Champions League titles during his six years in the Spanish capital since joining Real from Santos in 2019. Last season however, he was limited to just 22 LaLiga starts, and could look for a move with the World Cup on the horizon. Meanwhile City are awaiting an improved offer from Galatasaray for goalkeeper Ederson. Like Savinho, Ederson was also absent from Saturday's clash with Wolves at Molineux. He had stomach problems yesterday, he vomited and didn't feel good,' said Guardiola. 'The doctors decided he should stay in Manchester.' Earlier this week Daily Mail Sport reported that Galatasaray made an offer of around £8.6million for the 31-year-old who has been considering his future over the past year. His departure would pave the way for City to bid for Gianluigi Donnarumma at Paris St Germain.

Chelsea reject European giants loan offer for out-of-favour star - as Blues insist on permanent move to fund for attacker
Chelsea have rebuffed Bayern Munich 's attempt to sign forward Christopher Nkunku on loan. Chelsea and the player would prefer a permanent move and talks are ongoing. The Blues want to offload Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell among others before bringing in a wide player and an attacking midfielder. Manchester United 's Alejandro Garnacho, Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig and Manchester City 's Savinho, who is a target for Tottenham, have been discussed to varying degrees. The London club made an underwhelming start to the Premier League season as Crystal Palace ground out a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. After a truncated pre-season following victory in the Club World Cup, everything pointed to a Chelsea side lacking both preparation and rest as Oliver Glasner 's team coped relative easily with a new-look yet disjointed attack. Eberechi Eze started for Palace despite speculation he is about to leave and, if there were doubts about how supporters felt about the player whose goal won them the FA Cup in May, they were dispelled when he was substituted to a standing ovation late on. The England international provided the game with its only major talking point, lashing in a brilliant free-kick in the first half that was ruled out after Marc Guehi obstructed Chelsea's wall, drawing a furious response from Palace fans. As expected, Nicolas Jackson was not in Enzo Maresca's squad after being made surplus to requirements, with Newcastle considering a bid, while Joao Pedro was preferred at number nine to fellow new signing Liam Delap. Chelsea were playing 35 days after their win over Paris St Germain in the Club World Cup final in the United States and showed signs of mental fatigue in a first-half display low on creativity.
