Mavericks vs Clippers Preview, Injury Report, and Game Thread: It's been a while

Yahoo24-04-2025

The Dallas Mavericks (38-39) head into their final back-to-back of the regular season, closing out the game sets with a rare set of games in the same city against the same opponent, in this case the Los Angeles Clippers (44-32). Both teams are still in the hunt for playoff or play-in positioning. Dallas is hoping to hold onto the ninth seed, whereas the Clippers are hoping to escape the Play-In tournament. The Mavericks won their last contest on an Anthony Davis buzzer-beater over the Atlanta Hawks. After an early March losing streak, the Clippers have only lost three times and are looking to establish true winning streak, having defeated the Orlando Magic and New Orleans Pelicans. Here's the main things to know before tip off:
WHO: Dallas Mavericks at Los Angeles Clippers
WHAT: Another attempt to get to .500
WHERE: Intuit Dome, Los Angeles, California
WHEN: 9:30 pm CST
HOW: KFAA, MavsTV, and Playback with Kirk and David
The injury report is familiar for the Mavericks. Kyrie Irving, Dante Exum, and O-Max are out for the year. Dereck Lively is out this game (so it's safe to assume he plays Saturday). Anthony Davis is listed as questionable and I rather think he's going to skip tonight and play tomorrow as well. Caleb Martin is probable. Amir Coffee is out for the Clippers with an injury. Ben Simmons is also out, we can assume because he's not good.

These two games are going to be weird. The Clippers should take control and dominate but Dallas keeps on surprising me. Let's see what these short-handed Mavericks can do under pressure.
As you can tell below, you can join me and some other Mavs Moneyball guys in a room on Playback (embedded below) during the game (though I may not be able to start it until halftime). Also, consider joining Josh and I on Pod Maverick live after the game on YouTube, we should start after the game. Thanks so much for spending time with us here at Mavs Moneyball. Let's go Mavs!

Report: Mavericks schedule visit with Cooper Flagg ahead of 2025 NBA draft

Report: Mavericks schedule visit with Cooper Flagg ahead of 2025 NBA draft The Mavericks have Cooper Flagg scheduled for a pre-draft visit to Dallas, @TheSteinLine has learned. Flagg, Knicks, Suns and more from the NBA grapevine ... all here in my latest around-the-league notes: — Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) June 7, 2025 Projected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg is reportedly scheduled to meet with the Dallas Mavericks ahead of the 2025 NBA draft, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line on Substack. Flagg led Duke to the Final Four, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks on 38.5% shooting from 3-point range. He became the 22nd player in program history to be named a consensus first-team All-American. The Player of the Year is set to visit the Mavericks later this month to get to know team personnel before the organization selects him with the first pick on June 25. Jason Kidd said last month that he believes the Mavericks are a great situation for Flagg, with their mixture of established veterans and up-and-coming players. He believes Flagg will be able to step in and make an immediate contribution. The 6-foot-8 forward has drawn comparisons to former Duke legend and Hall of Famer Grant Hill because of his size, athleticism and ability to affect games in various ways. Former coach Mike Krzyzewski even called him the best freshman to ever play with the Blue Devils. The Mavericks have the first pick in the draft for only the second time in franchise history. After previously trading franchise cornerstone Luka Dončić, the Mavericks will soon meet with their next once-in-a-generation player in Flagg.

Knicks will seek permission to speak with Mavs' Jason Kidd as coaching search kicks into high gear: reports

The New York Knicks' head coaching search appears to be in full swing. After making the surprising decision to part ways with Tom Thibodeau, the Knicks are now eyeing Jason Kidd as a potential candidate to replace the franchise's fourth-winningest coach. According to ESPN, the Knicks are actively vetting Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd. Since Kidd is under contract with the Mavs, the Knicks would have to submit a formal request to speak to the Dallas coach. The Knicks have yet to request permission to interview Kidd, sources told ESPN. Exploring a trade could also be a route the Knicks could take. But the Knicks did exhaust a considerable amount of draft capital to acquire forward Mikal Bridges. Kidd reportedly interviewed with the Knicks in 2020, but Thibodeau got the job. Thibodeau led the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference finals berth since 2000. The Indiana Pacers eliminated New York in six games. Kidd spent the final season of his lengthy NBA career with the Knicks. Prior to taking the Mavs' head coaching job, Kidd had coaching stints with the Nets and the Bucks. He also served as an assistant coach for the Lakers from 2019-21. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
