Steelers Not Concerned with RB Kaleb Johnson's 40 Time: ‘We Didn't Question His Speed Whatsoever'
From Steelers Now:

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not concerned with rookie running back Kaleb Johnson's 4.57-second 40-yard dash time.
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping to add more big-play ability at running back with Kaleb Johnson, the team's third-round pick (No. 83) in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, many are questioning if he'll be able to provide that after running a 4.57-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is not among those, though.
'We didn't question his speed whatsoever watching the video,' Tomlin said. 'Often times, that's the case, you watch video and be really excited about someone's speed or you go to the combine and get excited about the combine 40 time. His speed was not in question on video. He broke a lot of long runs in the Big 10, as we talked about earlier. And so, he's just a very talented, young guy. But also at the same time, he's a third-year junior. Just excited to be part of his continued growth process.'
Johnson isn't bringing elite speed to Pittsburgh as a bigger back, standing at 6-foot-1, 224 pounds. But he has proven to be more than capable of breaking off big runs during his three years at Iowa.
According to Dale Lolley of Steelers.com, Johnson has reached 22 miles per hour per GPS measurements on field, which translates to a 40-yard dash in the 4.3s. There are only a handful of NFL players who have hit 22 mph, including new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, and nobody is questioning his speed.

Johnson did that while having a breakout season in 2024, when he rushed for a career-high 1,537 yards (6.4 yards per carry) and 21 touchdowns. He also recorded 22 catches for 188 yards and two more scores.

Game speed vs. 40-yard dash speed has been greatly debated over the years, but Johnson will have the opportunity to prove that what he does with pads on is what truly matters.
The 21-year-old thinks he'll be able to do just that as he sees himself as a perfect fit in Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense.
'I feel like, in general, it fits what I was doing at Iowa,' Johnson said. 'So I'm just going to continue what I'm doing and get better, fix what I need to fix up, and just be the best I can be for the Steelers.'

Report: Steelers are 'lowballing' teams in trade talks for additional pass catchers
Report: Steelers are 'lowballing' teams in trade talks for additional pass catchers The Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers could use some additional pieces on offense — but are reportedly 'lowballing' teams in trade talks. Insider Jonathan Jones recently shared on CBS Sports' Pushing the Pile podcast that the Steelers are offering teams very little compensation in trade talks: 'They're going to have to get another pass catcher," Jones said. "I don't know if that's wide receiver, and I don't know if that's tight end. They're going to have to get a pass catcher and they know that. They've been lowballing teams when they make a call, saying, 'Hey, how about this guy?' And they're like, 'No, we're not doing that for a conditional sixth-round pick.'' Several trade-target pass catchers — like wide receivers Allen Lazard and Chris Olave, as well as tight ends Jonnu Smith and Kyle Pitts — have been linked to Pittsburgh this offseason, but it remains to be seen if the Steelers' negotiation tactics will actually pay off. Steelers preparing a big workload for Jaylen Warren after Najee Harris's departure
Steelers running back Jaylen Warren needs to be ready for a lot of carries this season. Last year's leading rusher, Najee Harris, left in free agency. Warren was the Steelers' No. 2 back in 2024, with 120 carries for 511 yards and one touchdown, and this year Pittsburgh plans to let him carry the load. When asked if Warren can handle more touches, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin answered, "Certainly." Advertisement Warren said his whole offseason has been about getting ready for a big workload. "I approached this offseason differently," Warren said, via "I did a lot more things for longevity wise, instead of my old-school training like just getting the cleats on and running 30 hills. I had to adapt. This game is about longevity. And like they say, the best ability is availability." Last season, the Steelers ran the ball 533 times in 17 games, and Harris had 263 of them, or just under half. Quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson combined for 105, and they've been replaced by Aaron Rodgers, who doesn't run as often. Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith said when you lose half your carries, a running back needs to step up. "Generally you've got 500-plus carries in a regular season," Smith said. "You're talking about 1,100 snaps. You would like to be on the plus side of 500. That means you're in more four-minute. Let's leave it at 500 carries to divvy up. That's kind of where you're at. Then obviously losing Naj, Naj for four years here, he was very durable, and that's a lot of missing carries." Warren said he has "no doubt" that he can pick up the slack.

Jets HC Aaron Glenn downplays revenge game versus Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers
Jets HC Aaron Glenn downplays revenge game versus Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers Aaron Rodgers is headed back to New York in Week 1 — but Jets HC Aaron Glenn seemingly couldn't care less. Back in April, Rodgers appeared on The Pat McAfee Show to explain the unprofessional nature in which his Jets exit was handled— with the description of events almost painting Glenn in a negative light regarding the situation. With that in mind, the Rodgers-led Steelers taking on Glenn and the Jets has been billed as one of the biggest revenge games in the 2025 season — a notion the head coach shot down at mandatory minicamp. When asked to share his feelings about facing Rodgers in Week 1, Glenn smiled and even acknowledged that he was fighting back the urge to — but ultimately downplayed the head-to-head matchup as just another game (courtesy of Paul Andrew Esden Jr): "We have 17 really good games that we got to play," Glenn said. "And I'm looking forward to playing every one of them." Glenn was then asked if the noise and distractions surrounding Rodgers returning in Week 1 worried him — and this was his response: "This is the NFL," Glenn said. "And, to me, every game there's a lot of noise because they're so critical — as far as wins and losses. We want to try and accumulate as many wins as we can, and I don't care who that opponent is." Rodgers is either the only one with Week 1 circled on his calendar — or Glenn has the best poker face in the NFL. Either way, the fans will be the true winners of this exciting matchup.
