Man Utd issue ultimatum to Antony ahead of summer transfer deadline
Manchester United have warned Antony that he will be left on the sidelines until January unless he accepts an offer to leave the club before the transfer deadline, according to reports in Spain. Antony shone on loan at Real Betis in the second half of last season, racking up nine goals and five assists in all competitions for the La Liga outfit. But the Red Devils are pushing to get Antony off their books, despite his resurgence in Spanish football, and Betis have been exploring a possible permanent deal for the 25-year-old winger throughout the summer. Antony has been desperate secure a return to Seville, eager to pick up where he left off following his return to form under Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini. The two clubs have been unable to reach an agreement, though, with Betis favouring a season-long loan with an obligation or option to buy at the end of the 2025/26 campaign. Brighton, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig – plus teams from Turkey and the Saudi Pro League – have been credited with an interest in recent weeks, while Primeira Liga side Benfica have twice approached United over the prospect of signing Antony on a temporary basis. According to Seville-based publication ABC, United have now issued an ultimatum to Antony: either find and accept an offer to leave permanently for around €30-40million (£26-34.5m) or remain in the stands until the winter – 'with the almost certain consequence of missing the 2026 World Cup'. Betis plan to hold out until the end of the transfer market to seal a loan. But the report claims United want to 'thwart Betis' strategy' by pressurising the player into making a decision immediately, with Old Trafford bosses keen to avoid the saga dragging on right up until the deadline. It comes just three years after United decided to part with £82m to sign Antony from Ajax. In that time, the Brazil international has managed a total of just five goals in the Premier League. Antony has been training separately from the rest of Ruben Amorim's squad and was not included on United's pre-season tour of the United States. Speaking to the Spanish media this week, Betis president Angel Haro confirmed the club were still working on a possible deal for the United forward. 'We've been working since the beginning of the transfer window. It's a complicated deal,' Haro told reporters. 'We're working, but it has to fit within our financial limits and our opinion of a balanced squad. More Trending 'If he does make it, we'll make the deal. United also has a lot to say.' Asked if he was optimistic of striking a deal for Antony, Haro replied: 'I'm the same as I was. It's a complicated deal. 'I'm optimistic about Betis and Antony's willingness, but I don't know what Manchester United's final position will be.' Antony still has two years remaining on his current contract at the Theatre of Dreams. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Raducanu pauses Cincinnati match over crying child
Aug 12 (Reuters) - The disturbance caused by a crying child in the stands proved too much to handle for Emma Raducanu during her Cincinnati Open defeat by Aryna Sabalenka on Monday when the Briton appealed to a bemused chair umpire for action. Raducanu was preparing to serve at 3-4 in the tense third set of her 7-6(3) 4-6 7-6(5) defeat when she stopped and looked at the official to say that the child had been wailing for 10 minutes straight. "It's a child, do you want me to send the child out of the stadium?" the chair umpire asked almost in disbelief, prompting Raducanu to merely shrug. Raducanu then smiled and pointed to the stands as several members of the crowd said "yes" on her behalf having heard the chair umpire's question. The official said she could ask staff to have the baby removed, but added: "We need to continue for the moment," before the action resumed. Raducanu went on to win the game and draw level at 4-4 but eventually fell to world number one Sabalenka, who will take on Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the last 16.

Marc Guiu injury latest ahead of Sunderland vs West Ham
Marc Guiu is an early doubt to be available for Sunderland's Premier League opener against West Ham on Saturday. The 19-year-old completed his season-long loan move from Chelsea last week and was unveiled at the Stadium of Light during Sunderland's final pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. However, Guiu could miss the start of Sunderland's Premier League campaign as he has had no pre-season training due to Chelsea's Club World Cup campaign this summer. The striker was part of Enzo Maresca's squad which travelled to the United States and he made two appearances as a substitute during the group stage as Chelsea went on to win the competition. Guiu went on holiday to Hawaii after the Club World Cup ended on July 13 and returned to the UK this month to finalise his loan move to Sunderland. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – sign up, it's an open goal. Guiu played no part in the 3-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano at the weekend and Sunderland head coach, Regis Le Bris, admitted after the game that Chelsea's on-loan striker may need to work on his match fitness before he is able to start for the Black Cats. 'We are still in the process to improve the squad and progressively new signings like these two will help the squad, even if they started later,' Le Bris said. 'So, we'll have to be patient with them, to build their foundations for the season.' Eliezer Mayenda is likely to start in Sunderland's attack against West Ham, although Wilson Isidor returned from injury against Rayo Vallecano and was able to play 68 minutes before being substituted. More Trending In a separate interview with Northern Echo, Le Bris was asked about the availability of Guiu and fellow new signing Arthur Masuaku for the game at home to West Ham this Saturday. 'We'll see,' Le Bris said. 'Every day we will make an assessment of their level and see how far we can push them through the training sessions. Lift the intensity, the contact. 'If they react well, they can then join the squad. If they don't react well, we wait one day, two day and assess again. So we will see for next week.'
