Ravindra Jadeja has expressed his willingness to captain the Indian cricket team while making a bold claim that captaining in Test cricket is much easier than holding the role in T20s. Jadeja was among the senior players who were speculated to be in the race to become India's next test captain after the retirement of Rohit Sharma. However, Shubman Gill has already been announced as India's new Test captain .
Gill won the Test captaincy race ahead of favourite Jasprit Bumrah as the pacer is not expected to play in all five Test matches on the tour of England, which starts on 20 June.

Jadeja was asked about his captaincy ambitions by former teammate Ravichandran Ashwin during a podcast. Jadeja was quick to show his willingness to captain India and also shared how his experience of playing under different captains like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit will benefit him.
Jadeja reveals India captaincy desire
It has to be noted that the podcast was recorded before Gill was named as India's Test captain.
'Yes, definitely! See, what I feel is that over the years, I have played under different captains. I know the mindset of every single captain that I have played under. Every captain has a different mindset on how he wants to run the team. For example MS Dhoni, I have played under him in every format. His thinking is very simple. If he feels that a batter can hit in that region, he will simply take a fielder there. He wants to make them uncomfortable by not putting a fielder where they can't hit,' said Jadeja.
Jadeja also touched upon why he feels Test captaincy is easier than leading a team in T20s.
'In Test cricket, you have to change two-three fielder as per the need of the bowler. Captaincy in Test cricket is different. It's simple, but calculative. It's not complicated like IPL of T20Is. In T20s, every ball is an event. Test cricket is not that hectic,' he added.
Jadeja was made Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) captain ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, but Dhoni took over once again midway through the tournament after the franchise suffered a difficult start.
Jadeja addresses CSK captaincy failure
Talking about his captaincy experience with CSK, Jadeja said he feels he could have done things differently.
'It was difficult. In T20 cricket, every ball is an event. It is a fast game but for me it was an experience. I could have done better. As a captain, if you are team is not doing well then all the blame falls on the captaincy. Thinking, bowling changes, fielding chances. Unfortunately, the team was not doing well. If we were winning and everyone was contributing, then it was not rocket science,' Jadeja said on the 'Kutti Stories With Ash' YouTube show.

'Sometimes, normal things work, but when your players, batters and bowlers don't contribute, you cannot win in the T20 format. I felt I could have done better, I could have done differently,' he added.

In fact, it felt like a repeat of the 2023 ODI World Cup final where the fans painted the stadium blue. Except, this was a T20 league and the colour was all red — RCB red. Not that Punjab did not have the support or fans; New Chandigarh was their den during the playoffs and Shreyas' stakes have gone up significantly since the start of the season. However, clearly, RCB fans have shown up and the final witnessed a crowd that IPL has perhaps never seen before. Two months ago, when the 18th season of the IPL began, little did anyone expect these two teams to come to the final and play in front of a packed stadium in Ahmedabad. The final was scheduled for Kolkata and there were a few teams considered favourites. Even the road to this point was not a straightforward one. At one point, it did not even feel like the IPL would happen in this window when the league was suspended due to the India-Pakistan conflict. When the league was suspended for eight days, there was uncertainty over the return of foreign players — and some of them did not because of other commitments. Even when it resumed, there were question mark over the scheduling. The rule changes made midway to avoid complete washouts — some teams even wrote to the BCCI about it — and uncertainty over which venue would host the playoffs.
