The White Lotus Star Sam Nivola Has His Say On 'Nepo Baby' Comments

Yahoo4 hours ago

The White Lotus star Sam Nivola has addressed critics who've called him a 'nepo baby' due to his family's ties to the entertainment industry.
Earlier this year, Sam caused a major stir in the third season of The White Lotus, in which he played the youngest member of the Ratliff family, Lochlan.
As part of Variety's Actors On Actors interview series, the actor recently sat down with Monsters star Cooper Koch, in which he admitted that he's 'constantly' being asked about nepotism in interviews because his mum and dad are also actors, Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola.
'My whole thing was that my parents really didn't want me to be an actor, which I totally get – I don't know if I'd want my kid to be an actor. It's a really mentally tough career to be in,' he explained.
'And even if I had no success, I would want to be doing it. But they really didn't want me to do it.'
Sam went on to say that, initially, he wasn't interested in acting himself, until watching films in the Criterion Collection made him fall 'in love with cinema', and in turn, made him want to be an actor.
Back in March, Sam's on-screen brother Patrick Schwarzenegger – who has also had to contend with accusations of nepotism due to the fact his parents are action star (and former governor of California) Arnold Schwarzenegger and journalist Maria Shriver – revealed that his co-star confided in him that he was worried about being hit with questions about his family in interviews.
'I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't even know who Sam was or who his family was until like six months into [filming],' Patrick admitted.
'He was, like, 'Oh, I hope they don't call me a nepo baby'. And I was, like, 'Why?'.'
All three seasons of The White Lotus are available to stream on Now and Sky in the UK.

'Predator' Director Hints at Arnold Schwarzenegger Return

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors "Predator: Killer of Killers" released on Hulu and Disney+ last Friday, and the animated anthology film concluded with a bit of a surprise. Co-director Dan Trachtenberg has since confirmed that this surprise could mean the long-awaited return of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Dutch to the "Predator" franchise. By the end of the film you learn the respective human heroes of each chapter have been stored cryogenically for a climactic battle with a Warlord Predator. Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Predator". Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Predator". 20th Century Studios Before the credits roll, it's revealed the Yautja have an entire storage facility filled with similar heroes who, presumably, also managed to defeat their hunters; more specifically we are shown that Amber Midthunder's Naru, the hero of 2022's "Prey", is one of the Yautja's frozen captives. This opens up lots of possibilities for what other characters might be stored in the Predators' cryogenic facility. Speaking with Polygon, Trachtenberg confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger's Dutch could very well be one of the frozen prisoners. "So the movie was made under the code name Warehouse, as that end moment was in the original idea pitch to the studio, and it felt like the end of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'," Trachtenberg said. "Certainly Arnold, like many others, was a survivor of his story, and one could easily imagine him up there in cryo, along with any other Earth champion or champions from other planets." Of course, Schwarzenegger is now 77 and wouldn't look anything like he did in 1987's "Predator", but with the franchise embracing animation in a big way, that might not be as much of a problem. Trachtenberg confirmed to Polygon that he is hoping for a follow up to "Killer of Killers". "Yeah, certainly," Trachtenberg said. "The cool [part] of this movie is that it opens up the door to tell these kinds of stories in different eras, in different places, in different planets — but also, the further adventures of these heroes that we bonded with in a very unique way." Along with offering a possible return to Schwarzenegger, the ending of "Killer of Killers" could potentially help to tie up one of the few dangling threads of the "Predator" franchise. In 2010 "Predators" ended on a cliffhanger, with Adrien Brody and Alice Braga's characters defeating the Yautja but trapped on an alien planet. Perhaps they could also be revealed to be on ice on the Yautja homeworld. Is Paradise season 2 releasing in June 2025? Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on June 9, 2025, 17:30 IST Last updated June 9, 2025, 11:45 IST Hulu's hit dystopian thriller Paradise has fans eagerly awaiting news about its second season. With its gripping plot and stellar cast, including Sterling K. Brown, Julianne Nicholson, and James Marsden, the show has captured widespread attention. But is Paradise Season 2 releasing in June 2025? Here's everything we know so far. Paradise Season 2 Renewal Status Hulu officially renewed Paradise for a second season on February 20, 2025, before the first season's finale aired on March 4, 2025. The announcement came via the show's Instagram account, with Sterling K. Brown sharing the exciting news in a video responding to fans clamoring for more episodes. Creator Dan Fogelman also celebrated the renewal on X, thanking fans for their enthusiasm and theorizing about the show's twists. With the renewal confirmed early, production moved quickly, ensuring fans won't face a long wait for the next chapter. Is Paradise Season 2 Releasing in June 2025? As of June 9, 2025, Hulu has not confirmed a specific premiere date for Paradise Season 2, and a June 2025 release is highly unlikely. Series creator Dan Fogelman has stated that production began in April 2025, with scripts already written. In interviews with Deadline and Variety , Fogelman expressed frustration with long gaps between seasons and aims to release Season 2 in early 2026, potentially aligning with the January 2025 premiere window of Season 1. While some sources speculate a possible early 2026 debut, no official confirmation points to June 2025. Fans should expect new episodes between January and summer 2026, depending on production timelines. What Will Paradise Season 2 Be About? Paradise Season 2 will pick up where the Season 1 finale, 'The Man Who Kept the Secrets,' left off. The first season revealed that Paradise is a city-sized underground bunker in Colorado, housing survivors three years after a catastrophic climate event. The finale resolved the mystery of President Cal Bradford's murder, identifying Trent (Ian Merrigan), a former construction leader, as the killer seeking justice for workers poisoned during the bunker's creation. It also disclosed that 55 million Americans, including Xavier's wife Teri, survived the apocalypse outside the bunker, a secret kept by Sinatra to maintain control. Tom Felton's Comments On J.K. Rowling Have "Harry Potter" Fans Collectively Rolling Their Eyes, And Same

Tom Felton was asked for his thoughts about the ongoing controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling, and I can't lie, his response is disappointing. As you know, J.K. has come under fire, particularly for her anti-trans views. As a result, people are boycotting Harry Potter products, and several of the film's stars have openly criticized her, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. When asked how he feels about the current controversy surrounding J.K. and her divisive views, Tom said, "I'm not really that attuned to it." "Here I am in New York, and I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter." "And she's responsible for that," he added, "so I'm incredibly grateful." Tom Felton says the controversy around J.K. Rowling's political views doesn't impact him: "I'm not really that attuned to it...I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter. She's responsible for that, so I'm incredibly grateful." #TonyAwards — Variety (@Variety) June 8, 2025 Variety / Via Twitter: @Variety His response was shared on Reddit, where it was immediately met with backlash. "Absolute fucking loser," one person said. "And to say shit like this at the Tony's of all awards shows is repulsive." Another wrote, "Nah that ain't it brother." Others called Tom's response "spineless." "I'd rather be poor than this embarrassingly spineless. But it tracks to what we already knew about him," a third fan said, while another mocked Tom's comment. "I'm not really attuned to [the global struggle for equality and justice]." Very trash behavior, indeed, if you ask me. Tell me what you think in the comments.
