
US ambassador visits Liwa Date Festival
During her visit to the festival, Ambassador Strong expressed her deep admiration for the distinguished event, which offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore dates and the diverse products derived from the palm tree.
She noted that the experience provided her with valuable insight into traditional crafts and local cuisine.
Strong also commended the rich educational content presented by the organisers and their tremendous efforts in hosting such diverse heritage festivals.
These events, she emphasised, offer an authentic window into the UAE's vibrant cultural heritage, blending the past with the present.
As part of her tour, the US Ambassador viewed several pavilions in the date and fruit beauty competitions.
The 2025 Liwa Date Festival, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, has welcomed 50,225 visitors during its first five days.
The 21st edition of the festival, organised by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, continues until 27th July in Liwa City, Al Dhafra Region.
The Liwa Date Festival is one of the UAE's most significant platforms celebrating palm heritage and traditional agriculture.
It is an annual event eagerly awaited by farmers and the wider community due to its vital support for the agricultural sector and food security.
The festival features 24 competitions with a total of 308 prizes valued at Dhs8.735 million, in addition to stage competitions designed for visitors.
The event reflects Abu Dhabi's commitment to preserving and transmitting heritage across generations while celebrating the date harvest season and the palm tree, a deeply rooted cultural and social symbol in Emirati heritage.
The festival also attracts visitors and tourists from across the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council, offering a traditional and interactive atmosphere that supports farmers and provides engaging experiences for families and attendees.

Conclusion of the Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival 2025
The Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival, organized by the Ajman Department of Tourism Development (ADTD), under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, concluded its 10th edition, which was held in the Emirates Hospitality Center from July 30 to August 3. The current edition witnessed wide Gulf participation, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, Jordan and Egypt, in addition to an elite group of participants from governmental and private entities, promoting the festival's position as a leading regional platform for celebrating agricultural and heritage production, and enhancing cultural communication between the peoples of Arab countries. The festival's latest edition features an eclectic array of events such as art performances and competitions across diverse categories and age groups. The agenda also included educational sessions on palm cultivation and beekeeping methods, along with a series of training workshops on local handicrafts, and a children's corner for hosting artistic events, competitions and educational activities. H.E. Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, Director-General of ADTD said: 'In its tenth year and with its remarkable success today, the Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival proves its importance as a cultural platform that consolidates the local heritage and supports farmers, beekeepers and local project owners, strengthening the emirate's position as a prominent destination for traditional events.' He added: 'At the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, we are keen to expand and diversify the agenda of events with each session, developing content and achieving broad local and regional community participation. This reflects our dedication to highlighting Ajman's role as an emirate that preserves the Emirati identity and authentic values and seeks to transfer them to future generations.' The 10th edition hosted a series of workshops, most notably drawing on palm trunk, medal making using weaving techniques, the diamond coloring workshop, Suroud decoration workshop, Al Jafeer decorating workshop, and many others. It also held daily auctions for dates, honey and various traditional artefacts, part of the proceeds of which will be allocated to charity, in addition to traditional events that highlighted the Emirati culture. The event attracted widespread participation from the country's emirates, through its unique contests featuring various categories, including the Emirates of Ajman, North Emirates, Other Emirates, Citrus & Fruits, and Hoey Contest. Date contests covered the most well-known types, such as Khalas, Berhi, Lulu, Khenaizy, and Ajman Palms, while honey contests included types like Sumar, Crystallized, Sidr, Beeswax, and many others and Fruit contests included lemon, mango, and almond, figs, and Citrus. The 10th Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival featured 61 exhibitors from across the nation, including farmers, beekeepers, entrepreneurs and business owners, in addition to representatives from various government and private entities. This dynamic gathering in a unique cultural environment contributes to safeguarding Ajman's rich heritage while enhancing its authentic identity and consolidating its pioneering position as a leading tourist and cultural destination, both regionally and globally.

UAE and Moldova agree to mutual entry visa exemptions
The UAE and Moldova have signed a mutual visa waiver agreement during a meeting in Abu Dhabi on Monday. The exemption for Emirati citizens will facilitate easier tourism, business exchanges, and cultural interactions with the Eastern European country. Hamdan bin Mohammed reviews outcomes of Sheikha Hind Family Prog
Reviewing the outcomes of the Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Family Program, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed emphasised that Dubai's development vision has always placed people at its very heart. Launched in September 2023 by the Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai to empower Emirati families and reinforce social stability through a comprehensive set of initiatives, the programme facilitates a host of benefits including avenues for psychological and social support, financial literacy, and direct assistance in meeting housing and other expenses incurred by new couples. Sheikh Hamdan applauded the success of the Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Family Program in reinforcing the foundations of social stability by supporting and empowering Emirati families through a series of integrated and high-impact initiatives. The programme aligns with the expansive vision outlined for various social empowerment programmes and their role in creating a lasting positive impact that supports the goals of the Dubai Social Agenda 33. The Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Family Program has contributed to a significant increase in marriage rates among Emiratis. The Dubai Weddings initiative recorded a 218 percent increase in participation during 2025 compared to 2024, with the number of weddings held to date exceeding 700. Marriages facilitated through the Dubai Weddings initiative accounted for 27.7 percent of all marriages registered in the emirate. The results also indicated that the largest demographic of beneficiaries consisted of men aged between 26–30 and women aged between 20–25. The programme also recorded an impressive 95 percent beneficiary satisfaction rate. The programme offers extensive education and training sessions for couples as part of efforts to ensure the long-term success of marital relationships. Among notable highlights are Start it Right, a course promoting awareness of marital rights and effective approaches to foster mutual understanding; Family Financial Culture – Dubai, which focuses on sound financial planning; and How to Build Your Home, which offers guidance on smart and viable housing decisions. The programme's benefits extend beyond education, offering tangible solutions that meet real-life needs. It offers full coverage of wedding costs for both men and women when the ceremony is hosted in CDA-approved venues. It also facilitates priority access to ready-to-move-in housing through easy instalment payment schemes. Among other benefits are exclusive discounts on medical services, wedding essentials, jewellery, magazines, and travel. Another advantage comes in the form of a loyalty card under the Esaad programme that offers various community perks. There is also a remote work provision for newlywed female employees following maternity leave. Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director-General of the Community Development Authority in Dubai, emphasised that the Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Family Program reflects the vision of the leadership in placing family at the core of sustainable development. She noted that strengthening Emirati families is fundamental to building a cohesive and happy society. She stated, 'The programme's achievements are a source of pride. True investment starts within the Emirati household. Seeing young families embark on a key phase of life and welcoming new members into their families under the umbrella of this initiative proves that we are creating not just statistics, but real stories of secure and thriving beginnings.
