What are the Philadelphia Eagles' needs entering the 2025 NFL draft?

CBS News22-04-2025

The
Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2025 NFL draft
with one of the best rosters in the league after
winning the Super Bowl
. But there are still several positions the Birds will need to address after
losing multiple starters this offseason
.
Here are the positions the Eagles could address in the 2025 NFL draft.
Even if the Eagles didn't need an offensive guard, they would probably still draft a player in the trenches — it's just what they do.
But the Eagles will need some depth at the position after losing veteran Mekhi Becton in free agency to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Tyler Steen will be back for a third season to compete for the starting right guard job, but he's yet to solidify himself at the position. He's played in 28 games over the last two seasons and made three starts.
The Eagles also brought in former first-round pick Kenyon Green in the
C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade
, but he's not a lock to make the team. Green could be the next player to see his career turned around at
Stoutland University
, but nothing is set in stone yet at right guard as the Eagles enter the draft.
The Eagles will likely find Dallas Goedert's successor in the 2025 NFL draft, and it could happen early depending on how the board falls.
Goedert led the team in receiving in the playoffs en route to a Super Bowl win, but he missed seven games in the 2024 season and hasn't proven he can stay healthy.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni have each
hinted at potentially trading Goedert
amid his contract situation. Goedert doesn't have any guaranteed money in his contract for the 2025 season,
according to OverTheCap.com
.
The Eagles have added tight ends
Harrison Bryant
and Kylen Granson in free agency, but they're not replacements for Goedert. That could come in the draft.
The Eagles lost several key pieces along the defensive line in the offseason.
Josh Sweat
headed west to the Arizona Cardinals, and
Milton Williams
got a massive payday from the New England Patriots.
Birds legend Brandon Graham also retired
after 15 seasons with the team.
Former Georgia Bulldogs Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Nolan Smith, and up-and-coming players
Jalyx Hunt
and Moro Ojomo are returning. Pass rusher Bryce Huff, who had a down season in his first year in Philadelphia, is also under contract for the 2025 season.
After the departures of Sweat, Williams, and Graham's retirement, the Eagles added edge rushers
Azeez Ojulari
and
Joshua Uche
, but expect the Birds to add players at defensive tackle and edge rusher in the draft.
The Eagles finally found a long-term answer at linebacker in the 2024 season in Defensive Player of the Year candidate
Zack Baun
, and they rewarded him with a contract extension in the offseason. But they'll still need depth at the linebacker position.
Fellow starting linebacker Nakobe Dean could miss a significant amount of the 2025 season with a knee injury, and the team lost special-teams ace Oren Burks in free agency. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. will return, but is he ready to start alongside Baun? The Eagles could add a linebacker at some point in the draft.
The Eagles struck gold in last year's draft at cornerback. The team added Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the first two rounds, and both of them became
Defensive Rookie of the Year finalists
and played key roles in the NFL's No. 1-ranked defense.
But the Eagles lost two veterans in free agency.
Darius Slay departed for the Pittsburgh Steelers
after he was released, and Isaiah Rodgers went to the Minnesota Vikings.
With Slay and Rodgers gone, the
Eagles signed veteran cornerback Adoree' Jackson
in free agency to add some depth. Kelee Ringo, a 2023 fourth-round and another former Georgia Bulldog, will get an
opportunity to start in the 2025 season, but the Eagles
could add more young talent in the draft.
The Eagles created a need at safety by trading Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans.
Reed Blankenship will return as one of the starters, but the other starting job is up for grabs. Third-year safety Sydney Brown will get a chance to compete for the role, but that player could be added in the draft with several intriguing safety prospects in the 2025 class.

New York Giants' Evan Neal earns first-team reps at guard during OTAs

New York Giants' Evan Neal earns first-team reps at guard during OTAs New York Giants offensive lineman Evan Neal is getting one final shot to prove his worth to the team that drafted him. The No. 7 overall pick from the 2022 NFL draft has had a tumultuous start to his career, battling injuries and poor play while trying to establish himself as the starting right tackle. After the Giants declined the fifth-year option in his rookie contract this offseason, Neal is running out of chances to secure a long-term roster spot. After spending the first three years of his career working at the right tackle position, the Giants are giving the Alabama product a shot at competing for one of the guard spots, which is currently up for grabs alongside a pair of veterans. During Thursday's practice at organized team activities (OTAs), Neal was seen taking the majority of first-team reps at left guard with Greg Van Roten and Jon Runyan Jr. sidelined during team drills. Neal was part of the first draft class that Schoen had as general manager of the Giants in 2022 alongside Kayvon Thibodeaux, who was the No. 5 overall pick in that draft. The former hasn't had much success at the NFL level since arriving so it's fair to say this is a make-or-break season for the 24-year-old. With Jermaine Eluemunor coming over last offseason in free agency, Neal wound up playing the fewest snaps of his career at right tackle (456). Though he excelled as a run blocker, he allowed 17 total pressures, including two sacks and five QB hits on 314 pass-blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus. Neal is set to be a free agent following the 2025 season so if there's a chance he can carve out a role as an interior offensive lineman, it may just be what saves his career.

At YouTube Brandcast, Lady Gaga, ‘Hot Ones' & NFL Help Video Giant Mark 20 Creator-Shaped Years

At YouTube Brandcast on Wednesday night, the finale of a three-day blitz of upfront presentations in New York, Lady Gaga achieved the rarest of things: a standing ovation and screams of enthusiasm from a crowd of advertisers. The pop star's scorching 20-minute set closed things on a high note and received the opposite of the usually jaded reactions, but the event had already been a substantive one before she stepped onstage. The 20th anniversary of YouTube earlier this year served as the framework for the presentation, with appearances and remarks reflecting the milestone. Chargers NFL Game For Free From Brazil This September - Update Netflix Releases NFL Christmas Gameday Schedule With Cowboys Vs. Commanders & Lions Vs. Vikings 'In just two decades, YouTube has reshaped how we watch entertainment,' CEO Neil Mohan said. Live events, from concerts to sports to many other kinds, have come to be one of YouTube's foundational elements as technology improvements have enabled more seamless livestreams. 'We want to bring more of these moments to fans everywhere,' Mohan said. One example in September will be an NFL game in Brazil, streamed on YouTube in full for the first time. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell took the stage at the Lincoln Center presentation and joined Chief Business Officer Mary Ellen Coe to mark the step-up in the relationship between the league and the video giant. The expanded deal encompasses a flag football game during Super Bowl week, which last year drew 6 million viewers. Coe also announced a new initiative to give ad buyers a chance to get in on key cultural moments. Brands can collaborate with YouTube creators and properties like this month's PGA Championship (or award shows like the Oscars and Emmys, plus a number of other events) to create custom ads. Befitting the night's themes, MrBeast (aka Jimmy Donaldson) made an appearance. With 394 million followers, he has long been the standard-bearer for the creator community. 'People ask me if I'm going Hollywood. Why?' he said. 'The future of entertainment is not in Hollywood. It's happening right here, right now, on YouTube.' Popular YouTuber Brittany Broski (aka Brittany Tomlinson) interviewed another longtime creator, Sean Evans, who hosts interview series Hot Ones. Evans recently participated in an $82.5 million deal to buy the property from BuzzFeed, giving him an ownership stake in the chat show. 'Ownership, equity, and having a stake in the game is like a natural state for a creative person,' he said. 'We are far past the days when a production company or studio is bigger than the person creating the content.' Asked about the enduring appeal of his 10-year-old show, Evans said, 'It pierces the façade of celebrity. … We knock them off the pedestal and take it down to a relatable level.' How many of the biggest blowouts in NFL history have the Rams been involved in?

How many of the biggest blowouts in NFL history have the Rams been involved in? The NFL has produced a lot of memorable games throughout its history, from thrilling Super Bowls to high-scoring regular-season games like the epic Rams-Chiefs shootout in 2018. There have also naturally been some major duds where one team blows the doors off their opponent and wins in lopsided fashion. Those aren't the most exciting games to watch and are certainly forgettable for fans of the losing side, but some of those victories come with record-setting performances – so there are some memorable aspects to them. Sam Robinson of Yardbarker recently ranked the 30 biggest blowouts in NFL history (since 1960) and we checked to see how many games the Rams were involved in. It turns out they've played four of the most lopsided games ever, three being shutouts. They were on the wrong side in two of them and the winning squad in two others. 2008: Jets 47, Rams 3 1987: 49ers 48, Rams 0 2014: Rams 52, Raiders 0 1976: Rams 59, Falcons 0 Their 48-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in 1987 remains the worst loss in franchise history, getting crushed two days after Christmas by their rivals en route to a 6-9 season. The 49ers were 13-2 that year but at least the Rams can take solace in the fact that they were one-and-done in the playoffs, losing to the Vikings in the first round. On the other side, the Rams have two of the most lopsided victories since 1960, beating the Raiders 52-0 in 2014 under Jeff Fisher and the Falcons, 59-0, in 1976. In that win over the Falcons, the Rams outgained Atlanta, 569-81, an eye-popping line that shows just how dominant Los Angeles was in the victory. The Rams had nearly as many yards (80) on Dwight Scales' touchdown catch in the fourth quarter as the Falcons had in the entire game (81).
