Wang-Zheng estimates RM20mil provisional loss from Rawang factory fire

The Star03-07-2025
PETALING JAYA: Wang-Zheng Bhd estimates a provisional loss of approximately RM20mil from the fire that had broken out at the factory and warehouse of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Carefeel Cotton Industries (M) Sdn Bhd (CCI).
In a reply to a query from Bursa Malaysia, the company, which is principally engaged in manufacturing, processing and distribution of fibre-based products, said it is still unable to determine the actual losses to be incurred by CCI.
'From the occurrence of discussions with our insurance providers to quantify the financial impact, preliminary assessments suggest that any financial effects, including business disruption, will be mitigated through our existing insurance coverage.
'Based on information available at this time, the estimated provisional loss for this incident is approximately RM20mil, arising from the loss of plant, machinery and inventories, prior to insurance claim from the fire incident.
Wang Zheng announced earlier this week that the fire incident occurred at CCI's factory in Rawang, Selangor, in the morning on Monday, June 30.
'As the Fire and Rescue Department operations are ongoing and investigations into the cause of the fire are underway, the operations at the factory and warehouse have been halted and closed. Our staff in CCI have been relocated to other factories of our subsidiary companies.
'A further announcement will be made on the actual losses incurred by CCI and the group from the fire outbreak upon completion of the investigation and assessment by the company's internal team, insurance company and authorities concerned.'

Express Powerr to raise RM36mil from listing

From left: Express Powerr Solutions (M) Bhd non-independent executive director Rosli Jonid, Express Powerr managing director Lim Cheng Ten, Express Powerr independent non-executive chairman Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid, Mercury Securities Sdn Bhd director Jamieson Chew Yen Loong and Mercury Securities head of corporate finance Eric Chong Soo Keng. KUALA LUMPUR: Generator rental services provider Express Powerr Solutions (M) Bhd, which is en route to be listed on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia on Sept 24, 2025, is expected to raise RM36mil via its upcoming initial public offering (IPO). The IPO price is fixed at 20 sen per share, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM186.9mil upon listing, based on an enlarged issued share capital of 934.4 million shares. Managing director Lim Cheng Ten said that the proceeds would enable the company to expand its fleet by at least 36 units and acquire medium and high-voltage equipment to support this expansion over the next three years. Lim said Tenaga Nasional Bhd is expected to remain Express Powerr's largest revenue contributor, although its reliance has dropped to 60% in 2024 from 95% previously. He noted that with 27 oil and gas projects worth RM4.46bil approved in the first nine months of 2024, demand for generator sets in exploration and drilling is set to rise. To reward shareholders, Lim said the company has adopted a dividend policy of 30% to 50% of net profit. On diversification, he said the group's solar business remains in its infancy and would not be a near-term focus. The IPO involves the public issuance of 180 million new shares or 19.3% of the enlarged share capital, and an offer for sale of 65.4 million existing shares. — Bernama

Amway profit plunges, warns of weaker full-year performance

KUALA LUMPUR: Amway (M) Holdings Bhd has warned that its full-year revenue and profit are likely to fall, citing prevailing business uncertainties. 'Given the prevailing uncertainties in the business environment, the group anticipates a decline in revenue and profit for the full year,' Amway said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia. In the second quarter ended June 30, Amway's net profit plunged to RM2.4mil from RM24.5mil a year earlier, translating into earnings per share of 1.48 sen versus 14.93 sen previously. Quarterly revenue fell 10% to RM266.7mil compared with RM296.4mil a year prior. Amway said its first-half profitability was hit by weaker sales and rising costs, and it is doubling down on the health and wellbeing segment with new products, ABO programmes and tech upgrades. 'For the first half of 2025, the group recorded a decline in revenue, reflecting the continued impact of weak consumer demand and a challenging economic environment. 'Despite these headwinds, the group remains committed to delivering shareholders' value and upholding our position as a trusted provider of health and wellbeing products. The group will continue to focus on delivering holistic gut health solutions to meet evolving consumer needs,' Amway said. Amway has declared a second single-tier interim dividend of 5 sen per share on Aug 20, payable on Sept 22.
