Sohar: The North Al Batinah branch of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday organised an extensive meeting on the role of ports and maritime shipping in promoting national exports. It also addressed operational and regulatory challenges in supply chains and presented proposed solutions to enhance integration between government entities and operators, as well as stimulating investment in the logistics sector through qualitative incentives that capitalize on the port's geographical and logistical advantages. The meeting, attended by Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, representatives of government and private entities, handling companies, factory representatives, and shipping companies, featured a review of the status of Omani exports to global markets. It also presented key statistical indicators, challenges, and opportunities related to developing the logistics system and enhancing the efficiency of access to international markets.

Unified insurance policy, bank fees affecting SMEs reviewed
By OUR CORRESPONDENT Muscat – The Finance and Insurance Committee of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) reviewed progress on the unified insurance policy – aimed at standardising coverage and terms across all insurers in the sultanate – last week. Chaired by Mustafa bin Salman bin Ahmed, Committee Head and OCCI Board Member, the committee also examined bank fees and charges imposed on borrowers, stressing the need for a detailed study based on data from Central Bank of Oman. Officials noted that around 80% of companies in Oman are classified as small and medium enterprises, making the impact of such fees particularly significant. The committee further discussed charges levied by commercial banks on SME accounts and considered holding a joint seminar with Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre to highlight its services in resolving financial disputes. Members also reviewed a proposal for a dialogue session on financing challenges and personal loans to support the employment of Omanis in SMEs. Training initiatives for insurance sector workers were explored, including short- and long-term programmes and a professional diploma in insurance.

Omani-Bahraini expo feature 53 exhibitors
SALALAH: The fifth edition of the Omani-Bahraini Products Exhibition opened on Sunday in Salalah. The exhibition is organised by the Omani-Bahraini Friendship Association in cooperation with the embassy of Bahrain in Oman and the Dhofar branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI). The exhibition will continue for ten days. The exhibition aims to provide an opportunity for entrepreneurs from small and medium enterprises and productive families to showcase their products and improve their quality. 53 exhibitors from Oman and Bahrain are participating at the Salalah Gardens Mall as part of the Khareef Dhofar Season. The exhibition features a wide range of exhibits, including handicrafts, pottery and traditional costumes. Dr Juma bin Ahmed al Kaabi, Ambassador of Bahrain to Oman, emphasised that organising the fifth edition of the exhibition reflects the successes achieved by previous editions. He praised the growth and development of Omani-Bahraini relations in various fields, noting the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in opening new markets and promoting economic development. Radina al Hajri, Chairwoman of the Omani-Bahraini Friendship Society, said: 'The exhibition is part of a series of events and exhibitions aimed at strengthening trade and investment relations between the two brotherly countries, and providing a platform for exchanging expertise and establishing partnerships between owners of small and medium-sized enterprises.' Naif bin Hamed Fadhel, Chairman of the Dhofar Branch, OCCI, explained that the exhibition embodies a pioneering model of economic and commercial cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Bahrain, contributing to enhancing trade and investment exchange, thus adding qualitative value to bilateral relations.
