Annamdevula Chanti selected for AP Biodiversity Award
Rajamahendravaram: In recognition of his outstanding contribution to biodiversity conservation, Annamdevula Veera Venkata Satyanarayana, popularly known as Chanti, the Sarpanch of Madhavarayudupalem village has been selected for the Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Conservation Award. The award is being presented on the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity.
Chanti will receive the award from the Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan at a ceremony to be held on May 22 at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada.
Chanti has been actively engaged in environmental and biodiversity conservation efforts for over 25 years. His initiatives include plantation and protection of trees, care for animals, promotion of organic farming, preservation of local traditions and cultures, and sustainable environmental practices.
Two decades ago, he took up a large-scale plantation drive along both sides of the village roads and personally ensured their maintenance. He has also been involved in the re-establishment of an ancient Manduva house, the protection of native art forms like Garagalu and Garadilu, and the promotion of folk culture.
Chanti's conservation efforts extend to tying bundles of paddy (vari kucchulu) to protect bird species, digging percolation pits for groundwater recharge, adopting solar energy for sustainable power usage, and cultivating medicinal plants.
In acknowledgment of his relentless dedication, the Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Board has chosen him for this prestigious honour. The Board's Member Secretary P Ramakrishna has formally communicated the award selection to Chanti.

According to the data shared by the TGBIE, the overall pass percentage for TS IPE 1st year was 65.96 per cent, for 2nd year it recorded 65.65 per cent this year. The cumulative pass percentage for TS Intermediate Public Examinations 2025 was noted as 65.81 per cent this year. Here's an overview- A total of 2,93,852 students from the general stream and 28,339 from the vocational stream passed the TS IPE 1st Year exams. In the 2nd Year exams, 2,85,435 general stream students and 28,713 vocational stream students qualified. Girls outperformed the boys in both the TS Intermediate First and Second Year exams with a pass percentage of 73.83 per cent and 74.21 per cent, respectively. The overall pass percentage of boys in TSE IPE 1st and 2nd year was 57.83 per cent and 57.31 per cent, respectively. Medchal became the overall best-performing district in the TSE IPE for the first year, achieving a pass percentage of 77.21% in the vocational stream. Komaram Bheem Asifabad district stood out as the best-performing district in the general stream, with an overall pass percentage of 70.52%. In the second year of the TS IPE, Mulugu excelled as the overall best-performing district, recording a pass percentage of 81.06% in the vocational stream.

Maharashtra FYJC Admission 2025: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will close the round 1 registration window for First-Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions today at 2 pm. Once done, the Board will release the provisional general merit list. Students who are interested and registered can check the general list on the official website at Candidates will have the opportunity to submit objections and request corrections to the merit list from June 5 to 7, 2025. Following this, a final or revised merit list will be uploaded on June 8, 2025. Waqf Umeed portal tantamount to contempt of court, claims Muslim Board
The Union government's plan to unveil the UMEED portal to digitise the registration process for Waqf properties across India has met with expected criticism from Muslim bodies, notably, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board which is planning to challenge the move in the Supreme Court. The Board contends that at a time when petitions challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 are under consideration of the Supreme Court such a move is tantamount to contempt of court. The UMEED portal, it is claimed, is based on the recommendations of the Act. Judgment reserved The Supreme Court, it may be noted, has heard several petitions against the Waqf Act, including those by many Muslim bodies, and reserved its judgment in the final hearing last month. 'The Waqf Act 2025 is currently under consideration in the Supreme Court. Most Muslim organisations have rejected it. The Opposition parties, human rights organisations, as well as Sikh, Christian, and other minority communities have also declared it unacceptable. It is unfortunate that despite this, the government is launching the Waqf Umeed Portal from June 6 to make the registration of Waqf properties mandatory. This is entirely illegal and constitutes contempt of court,' said All India Muslim Personal Law Board president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani. The Board has appealed to State Waqf Boards besides common Muslim citizens to refrain from registering Waqf properties on this portal until the court delivers its verdict. 'It seems like a move to implement the Waqf Act through the back door,' a Board official said on condition of anonymity. The AIMPLB fears the government through the portal UMEED, an acronym for Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development, ostensibly meant to usher in greater transparency and better management of Waqf properties, is using it as a ruse to stake claim on Muslim properties through the Waqf-by-User clause in the new Act. The clause has been hotly contested in the Supreme Court. Property registration mandatory Incidentally, the UMEED portal makes the registration of Waqf properties mandatory and aims to integrate them all into a centralised digital platform. Developed under the provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, the portal will require all Waqf properties to be registered within six months of its launch. The registration is said to be a long drawn-out process, needing comprehensive details of the property. The Minority Affairs Ministry, under which the portal will operate, has offered technical assistance besides detailed guidelines on the process of registering a property. The AIMPLB, however, contends that, if implemented, any Waqf property not registered on the portal, may be treated as disputed, and the community may even lose ownership over it. 'The registration is entirely based on the disputed law, which has been challenged in court, and labelled unconstitutional. Therefore, the Muslim Personal Law Board strongly opposes it. We will soon approach the apex court against this move of the government,' Mr. Rahmani said.
