
Oman's chamber of commerce hosts talks on civic councils' role
The event, held under the patronage of Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, was attended by Raed bin Mohammed al Shehhi, Chairman of the OCCI Musandam branch.
Discussions focused on the role of municipal councils in fostering local development and strengthening community partnerships.
The session explored the councils' responsibilities, including infrastructure development and their role as intermediaries between citizens and the government to improve local services.
Participants also highlighted the councils' involvement in planning and executing projects aimed at enhancing the business environment and driving economic growth in Musandam.
Emphasis was placed on partnerships between municipal councils and the local community, along with strategies to enhance communication between councils and business owners to identify development priorities. The event also reviewed several strategic and municipal projects that have improved infrastructure and boosted the local economy.
The discussion underscored the role of the private sector in the success of upcoming municipal projects, which are expected to contribute to economic diversification and sustainability.
Sayyid Ibrahim said, 'This Ramadan Evening is part of broader efforts to foster community communication and create a space for constructive dialogue. Such gatherings are essential for exchanging ideas and visions on how to advance the governorate and stimulate collaboration between the public and private sectors, contributing to sustainable development.'

Unified insurance policy, bank fees affecting SMEs reviewed

Chaired by Mustafa bin Salman bin Ahmed, Committee Head and OCCI Board Member, the committee also examined bank fees and charges imposed on borrowers, stressing the need for a detailed study based on data from Central Bank of Oman. Officials noted that around 80% of companies in Oman are classified as small and medium enterprises, making the impact of such fees particularly significant. The committee further discussed charges levied by commercial banks on SME accounts and considered holding a joint seminar with Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre to highlight its services in resolving financial disputes. Members also reviewed a proposal for a dialogue session on financing challenges and personal loans to support the employment of Omanis in SMEs. Training initiatives for insurance sector workers were explored, including short- and long-term programmes and a professional diploma in insurance.

SALALAH: The Dhofar branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), in collaboration with Global Chemical Systems and Maintenance Limited, hosted an economic seminar in Salalah on 'The Future of Sustainable Energy and Facilities Management.' The event brought together decision-makers, innovators and specialists to examine transformative trends and solutions in the energy sector and smart facilities management. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, the seminar featured speeches from sector leaders. Ghazi bin Saeed al Hamar, Director of OCCI's Dhofar branch, stressed that renewable energy and smart facilities management are now key pillars for energy security and resource sustainability. He described the seminar as a platform for exchanging best practices, addressing challenges and formulating practical recommendations. Engineer Shawqi bin Noor Mohammed al Balushi, Advisor to Global Chemical Systems and Maintenance Limited, highlighted the crucial role of sustainable energy in developing a strong, balanced and cost-efficient economy, noting its alignment with the green transition goals of Oman Vision 2040. The programme covered five key themes: renewable energy transition, smart facility management, innovation in infrastructure, enabling policies and legislation, and future challenges and opportunities in sustainable energy. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Asyad Group, Oman Water Association, Felix Pharmaceutical Industries, and several academic institutions. The seminar aimed to enhance partnerships with scientific and service institutions, showcase the latest innovations in energy, water and facilities management, and promote operational efficiency in line with Oman Vision 2040 and Oman's target of net zero emissions by 2050. — ONA—

Muscat: The Finance and Insurance Committee of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), chaired by Mustafa bin Salman bin Ahmed, OCCI Board Member and Committee Head, discussed the latest developments regarding the unified insurance policy, which aims to standardize coverage and terms across insurance companies. The meeting also reviewed the fees and charges imposed by banks on borrowers, stressing the importance of conducting a comprehensive study based on data and statistics from the Central Bank of Oman, particularly as around 80% of companies operating in the Omani market are classified as small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The meeting further examined the fees imposed by commercial banks on SME accounts. The committee discussed a proposal to hold a joint seminar with the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre to introduce the centre's services and its role in resolving financial disputes through commercial arbitration. It also reviewed a proposal to organize a dialogue session to discuss financing challenges and personal loans that support the employment of Omanis in SMEs. Additionally, the meeting considered a proposal for a training initiative for workers in the insurance sector, which would include short and long term programs, as well as a professional diploma in insurance.
