Home owned by family of UBC and Vancouver Coastal Health embezzler up for sale

NORTH VANCOUVER — A real estate listing for a $2 million property in North Vancouver says the home has been excellently maintained and is on an attractive street, but what the description doesn't say is it's a forced sale involving an embezzler and a years-long legal battle.
The B.C. government gazette says the sale was ordered when the B.C. Supreme Court sided with the University of British Columbia in a lawsuit filed against the estate of Wanda Moscipan, who worked as an administrator for both the university and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority between 1997 and 2011.
A court ruling last year says Moscipan used her 'substantial administrative autonomy' in her dual role to engage in 'various fraudulent actions,' including forging signatures, stealing from a dormant bank account and paying herself an inflated salary.
The court ruling says the woman died in 2012, the year both the university and the health authority filed lawsuits to recover the stolen funds.
The gazette listing says a court bailiff was to list the property for sale on Thursday for the recovery of more than $1.5 million against her estate, administered by her husband.
The conditions of the property sale say the proceeds will go to pay any outstanding taxes, sheriff's fees, Realtor commissions, with the remainder paid out by the court to the university and the health authority.

Quebec provincial police spokeswoman Laurie Avoine says resuscitation procedures were performed on both before they were transported to hospital where the woman was pronounced dead. Preliminary information from police suggests neither victim was wearing a life-jacket when they fell into the water. An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Police say an investigator and a forensic identification technician have been assigned to the case. Man arrested in $6,500 theft, merchandise recovered
A man has been arrested after a theft worth more than $6,500 in Sarnia. On Saturday around 4:30 p.m., police were called to the incident at a Northgate store in the 500 block of Exmouth Street. Police were told the suspect was wearing a facemask and had stolen gift cards and medical supplies before driving away northbound on Colborne Road. The vehicle was quickly found and stopped on Indian Road. The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was arrested. A seizure resulted in a big quantity of razor blades, gift cards, gum, and other items. Police said electronic devices with the purpose of bypassing store security systems were also found. As the investigation continued, police learn the suspect was on release from similar crimes in Halton and Toronto. The release said the man was prohibited from going to specific retail stores and that was violated in the Sarnia incident. It was also discovered that a similar theft took place earlier in the day in Brights Grove, but it wasn't reported to police. A 41-year-old Richmond Hill man is facing charges for theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, disguise with intent, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order. 'We are increasingly seeing organized retail theft targeting our local businesses,' said Chief Derek Davis of the Sarnia Police Service. 'These individuals often target specific items that are in turn re-sold through unscrupulous businesses or on the street. Immediate reporting, coupled with a quick and coordinated response by SPS patrol officers resulted in an arrest and the recovery of the stolen property.'

1 suspect arrested, another wanted in deadly Scarborough shooting
Toronto police say they have arrested one man and issued a Canada-wide warrant for another in connection to a deadly Scarborough shooting that took place last week. The incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday June 9, in the area of Cedar Drive and Eglinton Avenue East. When officers arrived, they say they found a man on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a trauma centre, where he later died. A resident previously told CTV News Toronto the victim was surrounded by people when first responders arrived. 'His hands [were] like shaking and he was turned around here. I didn't even think that someone shot him,' the homeowner said. A man visiting a nearby plaza said he heard one gunshot and stayed inside. 'After a while the people were running here and there and then all of a sudden everything calmed,' he said. In a news release issued Sunday, police say they arrested 24-year-old Jelani DeJonge-Reece of Toronto and charged him with second-degree murder. None of the charges have been tested in court but he is scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on June 15. A second suspect, who police identify as 31-year-old Tamah McLean of Toronto, remains at large and is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder. 'Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to contact police,' officials said. 'Do not approach if located, call police immediately.' Anyone with information can also provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
