Swimmer Tan Khai Xin qualifies for SEA Games
KUALA LUMPUR: National swimmer Tan Khai Xin has qualified for the South East Asian (SEA) Games and the World Aquatic Championship 2025 after winning the 400 metre (m) men's individual medley at the 67th Malaysian Open Swimming Championship today.
The 21-year-old won the gold with a time of 4 minutes 26.44 seconds, slower than his own national record of 4:23.24s, but faster that the SEA Games qualifying mark of 4:36.04s and the World Aquatic Championship qualifying mark of 4:26.49s.
Shun Wang from Hong Kong won the silver with a time of 4:29.56s awhile Selangor swimmer Liew Zeng Wye took the bronze with a time of 4:46.15s.
'Overall, I'm satisfied with my achievement as my main aim here is to qualify for the SEA Games and the World Championship, and I'm thankful to have done so.
'Even if I had failed, it's not the end as there are several other championships. But it's always better to qualify early and now I can focus on my training,' he said after the race.
Fellow national swimming Khiew Hoe Yean became the first Malaysian swimmer to qualify for the Thai SEA Games after winning the 200m men's freestyle with a time of 1:48.46s, ahead of the qualifying time of 1:49.31s.
Surasit Thongdeang from Thailand (1:50.82s) won the silver, while Federal Territories' Dhuha Zulfikry won the bronze (1:50.90s).

Razif Sidek now out of danger, expected to be discharged soon
KUALA LUMPUR: Badminton legend Datuk Razif Sidek is on the mend after being hospitalised with pneumonia, according to his brother, Datuk Rashid Sidek. Razif, who captained Malaysia to the 1992 Thomas Cup title, was admitted on June 11 after experiencing breathing difficulty and was later diagnosed with pneumonia. "He's still in hospital and under observation," Rashid told Timesport on Sunday. "But he's doing much better than when he was first admitted on Wednesday. He needs to finish his course of antibiotics. If all goes well, he could be discharged soon." The 63-year-old had just returned from a short family holiday in Australia. It's believed the cold winter air Down Under may have triggered his illness. Razif and his brother, Datuk Seri Jalani Sidek, were once ranked world No.1. Their illustrious careers included winning the 1982 All England men's doubles title. The pair also made history as Malaysia's first Olympic medallists, claiming bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Games. They bagged two World Championship medals — silver in 1987 (Beijing) and bronze in 1989 (Jakarta). While no longer coaching full-time, Razif remains an influential figure in the local badminton scene and is known for his outspoken takes on national players' performances. Take proactive steps to stop athletes from competing in Enhanced Games, says Dr Ramlan
According to Dr Ramlan, a lot of non-professional athletes become waylaid into inactivity because their injury is not properly rehabilitated. PETALING JAYA: Former National Sports Council (NSC) director-general and Anti-doping Agency of Malaysia (Adamas) head Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz (pic) has urged all the relevant authorities to strongly denounce the Enhanced Games and take proactive steps to prevent local athletes from getting involved in it. Ramlan said the Games, touted by its organisers as a sporting competition that embraces the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), was a blatant affront to sporting values, national ethics, and athlete welfare.
