Tragic fire breathing accident: Inside Love Island UK 2025 contestant Sophie Lee's life
The starting line-up for this year's Love Island has been revealed and taking part in this year's show is former fire performer Sophie Lee.
Lee was rumoured to be part of this year's line-up, and on Tuesday 3rd June, ITV confirmed that the 29-year-old, who is now a motivational speaker and author, would be taking part.
The contestant is hoping to find someone "fun" and "spontaneous" and will be trying to steer clear of all the red flags in the villa.
She'll make her villa debut on Monday 9th June, alongside Megan, 25, from Southampton, personal trainer, Dejon, 26, whose dad is a former pro-baller, and the other Islanders on this year's show.
We did some digging, and Sophie has had quite the life ahead of appearing on the show.
Read on for everything you need to know about her, including the tragic incident that led to her becoming the activist she is today.
Age: 29
Job: Motivational speaker and author
Lives: Manchester
Sophie Lee is a motivational speaker and author. She previously worked as a fire performer, but an accident at the age off 22 left her with severe burns to the face.
It happened in 2019 during one of Sophie's performances. The air-con in the venue was too powerful and blasted a fireball back at her, causing her face and chest to 'go up in flames'.
Sophie told Fabulous Magazine: "The air-con was too strong so when I blew the fire out it blew back to me. It set me on fire. I just remember being in so much pain, I blacked out for a little bit. It's crazy."
She continued: "It happened in front of everyone and I had to get on with it as professionally and quickly as I could. As soon as I got into the ambulance, I was in bits."
Sophie spent a month in intensive care after the incident and the scars developed into a facial deformity resulting in a tumor growing on the side of her face.
Since leaving hospital, Sophie has become a successful beauty influencer and in 2023, she won the Beauty Awards Influencer of the Year.
She modelled for countless campaigns and fashion companies, and published a book called In My Skin in 2024.
Sophie is 29-years-old.
She sure is. You can follow Sophie at @sophirelee.
As of 3rd June, she has 96k followers, but this is likely to rise once she appears on the ITV2 dating show.
Sophie regularly shares updates about her skin journey and has fully documented the accident on her social media.
Sophie is looking for "someone who is fun, spontaneous, who has a lot of jokes and who is attentive. At the moment I'm only finding ones draped in red flags and 'do not cross' signs."
She also hopes to raise awareness around body positivity in the villa, adding: "I'm the CEO of empowerment. I want women to feel beautiful and validated in themselves and feel their best self. "
Love Island starts on ITV2 on Monday 9th June at 9pm.

Scottish Love Island star Laura Anderson opens up on 'health struggle' on holiday
Scottish Love Island star Laura Anderson has opened up on her health struggles while enjoying a holiday with her footballer boyfriend. The 36-year-old has shared moments from their break in the Maldives at the luxury Kandima beach resort. Taking to Instagram, the mum has spoken up about her battle with melasma, a common skin condition in adults which can cause darkening of the skin caused by increased melanin, reports The Record. She also asked her followers if they would like treatment recommendations or advice, if anyone may be suffering from a similar skin condition. "Do you suffer from pigmentation/melasma/sun spots?," she asked. "Okay guys I have been in the sun all day, always wear my factor 50 and my hat but I think with melasma you still get affected with just the heat so I always try and keep my face really cool. "That's a tip that I learnt, but I'm going to see Rebecca now but look," she gestured as she pointed her face towards the camera. "I don't know if you can see this all kind of multiplied again come back, this is me completely bare faced." She continued: "You can see it here there's definitely a difference between freckles. I love freckles, love to embrace them, but sun spots, melasma, pigmentation is different and can be quite ageing. "I quite like the little bits on my lips but I just want to remove that and Rebecca has all the best lasers in Dubai," as she gestured to her cheekbones. "She always teaches me things and has new techniques that I've never heard of before which are incredibly effective." The star added: "So we are going to go today with pico, really quick easy. I don't think there's any down time so yeah, let's get rid of this." Elsewhere, Laura took to Instagram last week following her house move in a gushing post over how lucky she is in her new home alongside daughter Bonnie, who she shares with ex Gary Lucy. She also gave a special mention to boyfriend Clark, 31. "Busy and booked, The Man of my dreams and a daughter to die for. I never ever thought I'd have all 3," Laura wrote. Sharing snippets with her 1.5 million Instagram followers, Laura noted, "Here's to the next chapter," alongside a key and house emoji. She added: "And a huge shout out to @ssremovals for moving my life AGAIN! That Ikea wardrobe will officially never be assembled again I promise." The first clip showed the couple sharing a kiss in the expansive outdoor garden. Another video clip showed Laura holding daughter Bonnie as she stood at the front entrance of her new home with Clark. The home boasts grand floor to ceiling windows offering plenty of natural light, looking out onto the impressive garden. Bonnie even has her own play room, which Laura showed off to fans previously. Bonnie and her dog Buddy will certainly have no lack of space in the new home. The influencer was delighted to update fans that her dog was finally coming home, after being away from them for a few months when he didn't settle in her previous Glasgow flat.

Coronation Street legend accidentally reveals Emmerdale crossover spoiler
A Coronation Street legend seems to have accidentally revealed a major Emmerdale crossover episode spoiler, which is set to air next year. Jack P Shepherd who has played the iconic character of mischievous David Platt since 2000 has teased he could be taking part in the Corrie and Emmerdale special. The Celebrity Big Brother winner appears to be the first soap star to "confirm" their involvement in the one-hour segment, announced by ITV last month. When catching up with Digital Spy at the British Soap Awards recently, Jack let slip the exciting news on the red carpet. When the actor was asked if he will be involved in the 'unprecedented' episode, which will see characters from both soaps come together in a celebration of the soap genre, he 'confidently' replied: "Yes!" But Jack's Weatherfield co-star Ben Price (David's brother Nick Tilsley), interrupted: "Are you meant to say that?" Jack responded: "I don't know!" Ben then advised his on-screen sibling not to give any details away, to which Jack continued: "I don't know if I am. Not for a fact, I don't. 'The big key hitters, I think they might have been told. There's rumours – and I'm sniffing that I might be in the periphery." He then joked: "With my Yorkshire accent. I think I'm in it, talking Yorkshire and they're like: 'Where are you from? Are you from Bradford?'" Jack's soap tease might be the news some viewers have been wanting for, as one posted on X: "corrie and emmerdale crossover episode. I need david platt & ross barton , charity & tracy , mandy & carla oh the possibilities." The "mash-up" of two of the nation's most beloved soaps is set to air on ITV next year and will be the first of its kind in British soap history. It will mark the broadcaster's new 'power hour' of soap which begins on ITV1 and STV in January 2026. ITV said the producers, scriptwriters and production teams have 'conceived an ingenious way of linking the two universes, but with characters then returning to the soaps they are renowned for inhabiting in Manchester and Yorkshire'. This month, Corrie and Emmerdale fans will be given the chance to vote for two characters (one from each soap) that they would like to see interact in a scene. Details will be launched in June via Coronation Street and Emmerdale's Instagram, Facebook and TikTok accounts, so keep an eye out if you want to get involved.

What Happened to Yulissa on 'Love Island USA'? Here's What We Know
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Yulissa Escobar's sudden exit from Love Island USA during the second episode of Season 7 has stirred speculation among fans. The departure, shown without context or explanation, left her co-stars and viewers in the dark. The twist was revealed with show narrator Iain Stirling announcing "Yulissa has left the villa" about 18 minutes into the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Yulissa, who had been coupled up with Ace Greene, was then noticeably absent from the villa. What we know What the show didn't mention—but what fans already knew—was that Yulissa had come under fire online after old podcast clips surfaced revealing a use of racial slurs. In the recordings, which spread across social media as the show launched on Tuesday night, Yulissa can be heard using the N-word multiple times while discussing past relationships, as first reported by TMZ. Newsweek has contacted both Yulissa and Peacock via email for comment. Yulissa Escobar (left) exited "Love Island USA" in the show's second episode of Season 7. Episode 2 delivered on the drama promised in the season premiere, picking up right where host Ariana Madix left viewers hanging—with the introduction of two new Bombshells, Cierra Ortega and Charlie Georgiou. After a round of raised hands from interested Islanders, Cierra and Charlie each selected one contestant for an overnight hideaway date: Nicolas Vansteenberghe and Chelley Bissainthe. Sparks flew, with Nicolas and Cierra sharing a kiss. The villa also saw its first moments of tension. Jeremiah Brown confronted Huda Mustafa over whether she kissed another contestant during a game. After clearing the air in the morning, their relationship appeared back on track. Meanwhile, Taylor Williams and Olandria Carthen navigated a similar hiccup with ease when she admitted to kissing Ace Greene. As the day progressed, the Bombshells made their rounds, getting to know the rest of the cast. Jeremiah stayed loyal to Huda, despite a chat with Cierra, and Belle-A Walker gracefully handled Nicolas breaking the news about his new connection. Islanders were asked if they wanted to stay in their current pairings or opt to recouple. Cierra ultimately chose Nicolas, while Charlie was left single after no women stepped forward for him.
