Eni starts gas production at Merakes East field in Indonesia
The field is part of the East Sepinggan block, where Eni holds an 85 per cent operating stake, and its production is expected to contribute up to approximately 18,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to Eni's output.
The gas is processed at the Jangkrik Floating Production Unit and transported to Indonesia's internal market and the Bontang liquefaction plant for domestic and export use.
This operation is part of Eni's strategy to utilize significant gas resources in Indonesia, supported by collaboration with SKK Migas, Indonesia's Upstream Regulator and Supervisor.
Eni has recently announced talks with Malaysia's state energy firm Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) to create a joint venture to oversee selected upstream assets in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Eni has been operating in Indonesia since 2001, with a current production of around 700 million standard cubic feet per day in East Kalimantan.

BENGALURU :Bank Indonesia is expected to pause its easing cycle on Wednesday to assess the impact of earlier rate cuts as inflation has ticked up recently and economic momentum remained solid last quarter, a Reuters poll of economists showed. After BI lowered its key policy rate by 25 basis points last month, data showed the economy grew 5.12 per cent in April–June while inflation rose to 2.37 per cent in July, moving closer to the midpoint of BI's 1.5 per cent-3.5 per cent target range. These trends, coupled with sluggish loan growth despite 100 basis points of total cuts since September 2024, could prompt BI to hold off on another rate cut until credit demand clearly rebounds. More than 80 per cent of economists, 24 of 29, expected BI to leave its benchmark seven-day reverse repurchase rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent at the conclusion of its two-day meeting on August 20, an August 11-18 Reuters poll found. The remaining five forecast a 25 basis point cut. BI's overnight deposit and lending facility rates are also expected to remain steady at 4.50 per cent and 6.00 per cent, respectively. "It wasn't just the Q2 GDP growth, which was higher than expected, but also headline inflation picked up in July quite significantly. So that's another reason for BI to pause and assess if a food inflation-driven pickup in headline will lead to some pass-through into the core basket," said Euben Paracuelles, chief ASEAN economist at Nomura. "The policy transmission of the 100 basis points of cuts they've had so far seems to be relatively slow. A more prudent approach would be to try to fix that first because cutting the policy rate further may not be effective." Looking ahead, 14 of 24 economists expected BI to keep rates at 5.25 per cent through this quarter, nine foresaw a 25 basis point reduction, and one projected a 50 basis point cut. By year-end, almost two thirds of economists, 15 of 23, expected rates at 5.00 per cent; six forecast 4.75 per cent; while one each predicted 4.50 per cent and no change from 5.25 per cent. Expectations of U.S. Federal Reserve rate cuts later this year could also give BI more room to ease policy. "We have one more cut this year but we have flagged risks BI could do more. We have the Fed now cutting ... two more times this year instead of just one. That gives a little more room to think about further easing if needed," Euben added. A separate Reuters poll in July showed Indonesia's growth is projected to slow to an average 4.7 per cent in the second half from 5.0 per cent in the first. Lavanya Venkateswaran, economist at OCBC, said growth momentum would reduce in the second half and a neutral fiscal stance would leave monetary policy doing the heavy lifting to support the economy.

Google announces Tennessee as site for small modular nuclear reactor
NEW YORK :Google, with Kairos Power, has selected Tennessee as the site of an advanced nuclear power plant that is expected to supply electricity to the Big Tech company's data centers in the U.S. southeast starting in 2030, the companies said on Monday. WHY IT MATTERS Big Tech is requiring massive amounts of electricity to scale up technologies like generative artificial intelligence in energy-intensive data centers. Those record energy needs are driving U.S. power consumption to new highs and propelling the development of fresh power sources like next-generation nuclear energy. The Tennessee reactor is the first to be deployed as part of Google's corporate agreement, announced last year, to buy nuclear energy from multiple small modular reactors. The deal would support 500 megawatts of advanced nuclear capacity, which is enough to power about 350,000 homes, to be developed by California-based nuclear company Kairos. The 50-gigawatt small modular nuclear power plant will be built in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, under a long-term power purchase agreement with utility Tennessee Valley Authority, to deliver electricity to Google data centers locally and in the state of Alabama. KEY QUOTE 'This collaboration with TVA, Kairos Power, and the Oak Ridge community will accelerate the deployment of innovative nuclear technologies and help support the needs of our growing digital economy while also bringing firm carbon-free energy to the electricity system," said Google's Amanda Peterson Corio. The project marks the first time a U.S. utility has signed a power purchase agreement for so-called generation IV nuclear power, which is generally seen as the most sustainable and safe form of nuclear power technologies in development, the companies said. ENERGY SECRETARY WEIGHS IN 'The deployment of advanced nuclear reactors is essential to U.S. AI dominance and energy leadership," U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in a statement announcing the site selection. Singapore leaders congratulate Indonesia on its 80th Independence Day
SINGAPORE: Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan have written to their Indonesian counterparts to convey their congratulations as the country marks its 80th Independence Day on Sunday (Aug 17). In letters to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, provided to the media by Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they recognised the country's progress since its independence in 1945 and expressed hopes for continued cooperation between the two neighbours. They also thanked their Indonesian counterparts for attending Singapore's 60th National Day Parade (NDP) on Aug 9, noting that both countries are commemorating milestone anniversaries this year. President Tharman, writing to Mr Prabowo, said that Indonesia's 'transformation, progress and spirit of togetherness since independence in 1945 has been an inspiring story'.
