James and Agyemang in England's Euro 2025 squad
Sarina Wiegman has named Lauren James in her 23-player squad for Euro 2025 as England attempt to defend their title in Switzerland next month.Chelsea forward James has not featured for club or country since April after picking up a hamstring injury.But the 23-year-old, who has scored seven goals in 27 appearances for England, is a key player and manager Wiegman is willing to take a risk on her fitness.Teenager Michelle Agyemang is an exciting addition, included as one of seven forwards in the squad, despite making just one appearance for the senior team.England face world number 11 side France in their opening game on 5 July (20:00 BST) and also face 10th-ranked Netherlands and Wales in a tough group. The final will be held in Basel on 27 July.

Arsenal 19-year-old Agyemang scored a stunning goal 41 seconds into her debut in a 3-2 defeat by Belgium in April.Also included in the squad is Bayern Munich midfielder Georgia Stanway, who has played 60 minutes in the past week after returning from a serious knee injury.Manchester City duo Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp had knee operations this season but returned at the end of the Women's Super League campaign to ensure their place in the squad was secure.It has been a chaotic fortnight for England with goalkeeper Mary Earps and midfielder Fran Kirby announcing their international retirements, while 2023 World Cup captain Millie Bright withdrew from selection on Wednesday to focus on her physical and mental wellbeing.Nine players from the Euro 2022 squad are not included this time around with five having retired. Four players are on a standby list: Brighton goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley, Manchester City midfielder Laura Blindkilde Brown, Aston Villa midfielder Missy Bo Kearns and Villa defender Lucy Parker.They will stay with the squad at St George's Park from Monday, 16 June to Monday, 30 June, when the rest of the squad travel to Switzerland

James is undoubtedly one of the world's most talented footballers and that was on show in her first major tournament at the 2023 World Cup.It was less than a year after making her debut and she put in two player-of-the-match displays against Denmark and China in the group stages, scoring three goals and providing three assists.She was then needlessly sent off for standing on Michelle Alozie's back in the last-16 match with Nigeria, receiving a two-match ban. She returned for the final in Sydney, when England were beaten 1-0 by Spain.Her creativity, exquisite dribbling ability and brilliant long-range shooting technique makes her one of the hardest players to defend against.Wiegman often uses James as a winger, interchanging with Manchester City's Hemp on the opposite side, but she can also play as a number 10.Her inclusion in the squad gives Wiegman more attacking depth, as well as a potential wildcard off the bench in the early stages of the competition.More to follow.

British junior reaches French Open final for first time in 49 years – thanks to Jack Draper
Sixteen-year-old Hannah Klugman thanked Jack Draper for his support and reassurance after becoming the first British junior to reach a singles final at the French Open in 49 years. Klugman came back from an early deficit on Friday afternoon to defeat Bulgaria's Rositsa Dencheva in a high-quality semi-final. Afterwards, she spoke warmly about Draper's contribution to her success. 'I struggled a little bit [last season] results-wise,' said Klugman after her 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory. 'I was working so hard and I felt like I was getting better, but I wasn't seeing results. 'My coach knows Jack quite well, so he set up a lunch for me, and I think he opened my perspective that everyone goes through these troubles, these issues. You don't realise it, but they are. '[We talked about] taking a step back and taking your time and realising it's OK. His big thing is consistency, every day working hard with the right mentality and things will come, it's just a matter of time. As soon as you get that level, everything comes.' By progressing to the girls' final – where she will play Austria's Lilli Tagger on Saturday – Klugman's added another good-news story to what has already been an encouraging French Open for the British contingent. Draper may have been disappointed by his fourth-round loss to Alexander Bublik, but overall we saw more players progressing in the main singles draw than at any time in the last half-century. Klugman is part of a strong generation of British girls, which also includes Mika Stojsavljevic – winner of September's US Open title – and Mingge Xu. Klugman made her name before the others when she won the 2023 Orange Bowl under-18 competition in Miami at the age of 14, thus following in the footsteps of numerous major champions including Coco Gauff, Bianca Andreescu and Sofia Kenin. Asked about her familiarity with clay – traditionally the most uncongenial surface for British players – Klugman replied: 'I wouldn't say I've played a lot, but I've probably played more than most British players. I started going to Barcelona with Jordi [Vilaro, her assistant coach], and I've improved massively by going there on the clay. I think it's really helped me. 'I think it's just a mentality thing. It's different. Every point is a grind, you've got to be ready for it and I think accepting that is the key. Me and my coach [Ben Haran] said, 'Let's do two months on clay, get my tennis better, my mentality better'. It's the end of the clay-court season and I'm doing really well.' 'I came through very young,' said Klugman, who grew up not far from the All England Club in Wimbledon. 'I won Orange Bowl at 14, so I think this may be probably my last year [as a junior], hopefully. 'Juniors has been a big thing for me. Playing well when you're not the underdog, it's different. It's hard. You have to learn that. 'I'm trying to block that out and not have expectations. So not think, 'Why am I losing when I'm better than her?' It's not like that – in tennis anything can happen. It's about playing your best game and trying mentally to be there for every point.' The last British junior of either sex to reach a final at Roland Garros was Michelle Tyler, who won the girls' title in 1976. And that's entirely down to Ange. We've never been a forward-thinking club, and Levy has to either change or we carry on pretending we're in the big league. Surviving in the Premier League is not Out of his depth. In other seasons could have been relegated. Just as well there were three worse teams. An embarrassment to finish behind Manchester United and Without a shadow of doubt, this is the best decision. Ange had to go, and I have said this from day one. He was way out of his depth. We were extremely lucky not to get relegated. I feel sorry for him, but he definitely didn't have a clue, and that was obvious with 22 defeats. Phillip: Absolutely the right decision. Our overall performance this season was unacceptable, and we could very easily have lost the final against a poor Manchester A totally expected but disgraceful decision from Levy. Maybe he should reflect on his own performances. Typically Spursy once again. The board should hang their heads in Football is supposed to be about glory, and winning trophies.
