Trainspotting cast now from Star Wars to Line of Duty and unrecognisable huge US role
The revolutionary film is one of the most renowned movies to ever emerge from Scotland, making a significant impact on the cinema scene in 1996. From the memorable 'choose life' slogan to the notorious toilet cubicle scene, the antics of Mark Renton and his group of heroin addicts in Edinburgh have become cinematic legend.
However, nearly three decades later, many of the cast members have achieved astronomical success.
Since Trainspotting's debut almost 30 years ago, the cast have embarked on major projects. From a short-lived marriage to Angelina Jolie to a role in Harry Potter, and even a standout appearance in Star Wars, the film propelled the group into substantial Hollywood success, reports the Daily Record.
Here's what has happened to the Trainspotting cast since the film's release:
Mark Renton - Ewan McGregor

The film features Ewan McGregor as the charismatic and conflicted Mark Renton, who struggles with his heroin addiction and multiple attempts at sobriety. Ewan was already a familiar face for British viewers, having starred in the Danny Boyle film Shallow Grave and Channel 4's Lipstick on Your Collar - but after Trainspotting, Ewan would achieve a whole new level of international fame.
Continuing his rapid ascent, the Scottish actor landed a massive role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels and also gained an even larger following for his roles in Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge!, Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down and Disney's Winnie the Pooh reboot Christopher Robin.
Daniel "Spud" Murphy - Ewan Bremner

Ewan Bremner, the Edinburgh-native better known as Daniel "Spud" Murphy, had only a few acting gigs before his breakout Trainspotting role. He soared to fame in the early 2000s, starring alongside Ewan McGregor in Black Hawk Down and sharing the screen with Hollywood stars Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale in Pearl Harbour.
Spud's return in Trainspotting T2 saw Ewan delivering an unforgettable performance, depicting a man still ensnared by heroin addiction.
Simon "Sick Boy" Williamson - Jonny Lee Miller

Jonny Lee Miller, who garnered attention as Simon "Sick Boy" Williamson, had already made waves with the film Hackers. His off-screen life was no less dramatic; after a whirlwind romance with Angelina Jolie, sparked on the Hackers set, the couple wed swiftly but parted ways two years later, in September 1997.
Beyond the tabloids, Jonny worked with Val Kilmer in Mind Hunters, made regular appearances in the series Dexter, and portrayed Sherlock Holmes in Elementary. The Crown fans might also spot him as John Major, a characterisation the real Major quipped was "a barrel-load of nonsense".
Kelly Macdonald captured hearts as Diane Coulston

Kelly Macdonald was a mere 19 when she bagged her first role as Diane, after spotting an audition leaflet while working in a pub. Trainspotting set her on the path to a successful career, including a lead role alongside Billy Connolly as Merida in Pixar's Brave.
She also earned credits in the Oscar-winning No Country for Old Men and a part in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. More recently, viewers will recognise her as DCI Joanna Davidson from the popular BBC drama Line of Duty.
Begbie - Robert Carlyle

Robert Carlyle, known for his role as Begbie in Trainspotting, has become a familiar face on big shows such as Cobra, The War of the Worlds, and Once Upon a Time. He reunited with Danny Boyle for Trainspotting T2 and played John Lennon in Boyle's Beatles film Yesterday.
Tommy - Kevin McKidd

Kevin McKidd, who portrayed Tommy in Trainspotting and Father Deegan in a Father Ted Christmas special, is now best known for his role as Owen Hunt in Grey's Anatomy. However, he continues to work in films, appearing alongside Kelly Macdonald in Brave and as Poseidon in the Percy Jackson films.

American shopper 'sent into coma' after Sainsbury's visit
Content creator Paige Wester, who is an American living in England, posted a TikTok where she revealed her shock and confusion over how Brits shop. Taking to Sainsbury's and in a later video Tesco, the TikTok star branded the series "things in a British grocery store that would send Americans into a coma." Both videos have gone viral on TikTok, gaining a combined nearly 3 million views. American's shocked over British supermarkets Stepping into Sainsbury's, Paige was first surprised by British eggs, sharing: "Their eggs are never refrigerated, they're always in these containers or on shelves." One big element the TikTok creator was stunned by was the beloved tea aisle: "The tea aisle is absolutely insane to me. "It's an entire aisle just dedicated to different types of teas." Paige was also surprised by Brits' love of pies: "People love to make anything into a pie. "We've got steak pies, we've got chicken pies, we've got cheesy veg pies. "Don't get me wrong, I love a good pie, but not everything needs to be inside of a pie." The TikTok then entered the 'scary' part of Sainsbury's when she discovered black pudding on the shelf: "This is where things get scary, but black pudding is a staple in most people's households." Later, the content creator visited Tesco and was confused by the amount of juice concentrate available: "Americans may be fat, but someone tell me why British people won't drink water, they have to have juice." Adding: "Let's just all grow up and drink water like a normal person." Recommended Reading Last but not least, the American was stuck on having to pack their own shopping bags, sharing: "I know this is the lazy American in me, I'm well aware of that. "But I miss people packing up my groceries for me. "I leave the grocery store actually sweating because it stresses me out so much."

Celebrity SAS contestant 'quit hours into filming' before making huge life decision
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins returns next week for its latest series on Channel 4 and among the line-up for the TV show is former S Club member Hannah Spearritt One of the celebrity contestants on the new series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, which launches next week, reportedly dropped out just hours into the experience. The news comes after the line-up was announced last week. Fourteen celebrities were enlisted for the Channel 4 show's latest series, which was filmed in Wales. It's teased that the contestants will take part in "the most gruelling phase" of Special Forces selection over the eight episodes, with the upcoming series set to launch next weekend. The line-up includes former S Club member Hannah Spearritt, 44. She's understood to have filmed for the show prior to relocating to Costa Rica earlier this year, with the singer now living an "uninhibited" life in the jungle. She was said to have faced a "sequence of setbacks" prior to relocating abroad. In 2023, she was said to have faced homelessness and dropped out of S Club's reunion tour that same year. Her departure from the tour came after bandmate Paul Cattermole 's death weeks prior and Hannah said that her health contributed to the decision. It's now been reported this week that Hannah's experience on Celebrity SAS proved to be the "final straw" before she moved abroad. It's claimed that she quit on the first day after hoping it would "turn things around for her". A source told the Daily Mail that Hannah had "pretty much exhausted" her connections in the industry before her move to Costa Rica. They said that she no longer speaks to her bandmates and has "shut herself off" from the industry. They added that the "final straw" came when she took part in Celebrity SAS. The source told the outlet: "Hannah truly believed that a stint on one of the hardest and most gruelling shows could turn things around for her." However, it's claimed that Hannah struggled with the experience on the reality TV show. The source said: "But sadly she just couldn't hack it and walked on the first day." They then concluded by saying: "It was all rather embarrassing." She spoke about her hopes for the show in a statement released by Channel 4 last week when the line-up was announced. She said: "I hope to take out of this experience, strength. I want to feel stronger again, mentally and physically, because there's always improvement there." Hannah, who has two children, added: "There are always dips that happen along the way with motherhood or whatever but I think when you just experience different stuff, it changes you. I have no idea what to expect, but I do know it will be an experience and it's something that I will have for life." She said: "However the experience goes, I am going to learn about myself. Maybe I'll find out I am a bit of a mess or I might find out that I'm stronger than I think I am … it's finding out things about yourself that you would never, ever find out. We live in this world where it's so easy to live in our comfort zone, so this is an opportunity to get outside of that and … for me anyway, growth and expansion is one of the most important things, and that is something that hopefully I can pass on to my kids." Since taking part in the show, Hannah has relocated to Costa Rica with her husband Adam Thomas and their two children. Earlier this year, she teased that she was embracing a "new beginning" after having left the UK just months prior. Hannah confirmed in January that she had arrived at her new home, writing: "Well ... we finally made it to paradise. Beautiful country, beautiful people." She's continued to share updates since then and her bio on Instagram reads: "Prepper, survivalist and creator now living the uninhibited jungle life." In one of her first posts after relocating, which was shared in February, Hannah said that the area had helped her "recover from a challenging year". She made the comment alongside photos including one of her beside her kids on a walk. She wrote in the caption: "Morning walks down to the waterfall… trying to keep up with the little legs! I'm putting together a little reel of this magical place that has really helped me recover from a challenging year and I'll put the link in with it so you can enjoy it too if u like."
