TUI launches ‘extreme day trips' to Lapland from 11 UK airports – including first-time regional base
Flying from 11 airports, families can head to Lapland and back with TUI in just a day.

There will be flights from Cardiff for the first time to Kittila, Finland, and day trips from Bournemouth airport will be returning for the first time since before the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 'Search for Santa' day trip will see families fly to Kittila, with a traditional cooked English breakfast served to you on the flight.
After landing at midday, you'll grab your snowsuit and boots before heading to the Snow Village.
At the Snow Village you will be able to see an ice hotel with igloo-inspired rooms, an ice bar, ice chapel and numerous ice sculptures.
Families will then hop onto a sleigh ride led by Rudolph.
After this, you'll head off on another animal-based adventure with a husky-led sleigh ride.
And if those rides weren't enough, you'll then be able to explore the snow wonderland more by learning to drive your own snowmobile.
Away from the different 'rides', you'll get to meet one of the Lapland locals and listen to stories and legends about the area.
For kids, there are some arts and crafts too.
Then the big moment of the day arrives with a magical journey through a snow-covered woodland to meet Santa.

Once you have met with Santa and his elves, you'll head back into the snow where you will have some time to build a snowman, ride a sleigh or even start a snowball fight.
A little chilly? Well, there is a campfire to heat you up with hot berry juice available.
At the end of your 'extreme day trip', you will then be delivered back to the airport by Santa's elves and once airbourne, you will have a Christmas dinner in the sky as you fly home.
Flights will run between December 5 and 23, 2026 with departures from London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol, East Midlands, Glasgow, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Cardiff and Dublin.
Tickets to see Mr Christmas himself don't come cheap though, starting at £750 per person.
But every child does get a gift and the chance to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Ahead of their loss to Spain in the World Cup final two years ago, Sir Keir Starmer backed a day of celebration. Writing on X at the time, he said: "It's almost 60 years since England won the World Cup. "I'm never complacent about anything… but there should be a celebratory bank holiday if the Lionesses bring it home." Mr Reynolds added: "It's a magnificent achievement and it was just a privilege to watch. "I think this team handles the big tournament pressure better than any England team I've ever seen. "I mean, there were some tough moments, but they really came through." England fell behind to a goal by Mariona Caldentey in the 25th minute, but Alessia Russo scored a stunning equaliser after half time. Chloe Kelly delivered the perfect cross to Russo in the box, who brilliantly headed it into the side-netting. The teams battled it out in 30 minutes of extra time before England's Kelly scored the winning goal in penalties. The match took place in Basel, Switzerland, at the massive St Jakob-Park stadium and just over 34,000 fans are in attendance. UK holidaymakers travelling to popular tourist hotspot warned of strikes at major airports
Ground handling staff are set to walk out every weekend in August. Brits travelling to Portugal this summer are being warned of strikes that may affect their flights. EasyJet, WizzAir, Ryanair, TUI, Jet2, and British Airways passengers could encounter significant delays at the peak of summer travel due to planned strikes at all major Portuguese airports every weekend throughout August. Portugal is one of the top five travel destinations for UK holidaymakers each summer, with direct flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh. According to Statista, the UK accounted for over 2.3 million visitors to Portugal, with more than half choosing the Algarve as their destination. Staff from SPdH/Menzies, formerly Groundforce, will be striking every weekend, affecting ground operations such as check-in, baggage handling, and aircraft servicing. Although essential safety services will be maintained, travellers should expect significant delays or cancellations, especially during baggage processing and boarding procedures. Ground workers claim their base salaries fall below the national minimum wage, and they are demanding not only better wages but also the fulfilment of night shift payments and access to employee parking under previously agreed terms. Additionally, the union is pressing for the company to honour a Memorandum of Understanding signed during its transition from Groundforce to Menzies Aviation. That agreement reportedly promised salary increases through 2026 and the payment of more than €2.5 million in outstanding compensation, terms that workers say have not yet been met. The strike begins at midnight on July 26 and ends at midnight on July 29. The protest will be repeated during weekends in August, from 8 to 11, 15 to 18, 22 to 25, and 29 August to September 1. Commenting on the strikes and passenger rights, Ivaylo Danailov, CEO of airline compensation specialists SkyRefund says: 'British holidaymakers flying to Portugal this August with airlines such as EasyJet, Ryanair, TUI, and others should be aware that while airline compensation under UK and EU regulations typically does not apply to delays caused by extraordinary circumstances like third-party strikes, travellers still have important rights. "Airlines are legally obligated to provide care, including meals, refreshments, and hotel accommodation if delays extend overnight. If your flight is cancelled or delayed by more than five hours, you're also entitled to a refund or rerouting, depending on your preference. "We recommend passengers monitor flight updates closely and check with their airline for specific assistance arrangements during this period of industrial action.' In an update on the FCO travel advice page for Portugal, the Foreign Office said: 'Industrial action by baggage handlers at Portuguese airports from Friday to Monday during the months of July and August may cause delays.
