Having spent years building and scaling artificial intelligence and machine language (AI/ML) solutions at AWS Bedrock and now at Intuit, I've witnessed firsthand the incredible advancements in large language models (LLMs). Although initial excitement often revolves around single-turn interactions, the real power unlocks when we orchestrate these models to tackle complex tasks through intelligent, multistep processes. This is where AI agents come into play. For example, if you wanted to plan a multi-city trip with specific budget and activity constraints, an AI agent powered by these frameworks could automate the entire process—from researching flights to managing your budget—something a simple prompt can't achieve.
In this article, I'll share my experience navigating the landscape of various agent frameworks through a practical comparison of several popular LLM agent tools. We'll explore their unique strengths and weaknesses and how you can leverage them within your own use cases.
LangChain is your go-to if you need a highly flexible and extensively integrated framework. Its massive, active community provides a wealth of templates, plugins and prompt-chaining strategies. The sheer number of available integrations means you can connect your AI agent to virtually any API or data source. Plus, its robust memory management allows you to tailor how your agent retains information across multiple steps. Use LangChain when: You have complex tasks requiring integration with diverse tools and data sources, need fine-grained control over memory management and want to leverage a large and supportive community.
However, the sheer breadth of LangChain can be overwhelming for beginners, leading to a steeper learning curve. Debugging intricate prompt chains can also be challenging. And although cost-effective, scaling can require significant engineering effort. Consider another option if: You're looking for a simpler, more visually oriented approach or are just starting your journey with AI agents.
Typical Use Case: LangChain excels at building sophisticated product support chatbots that can consult internal documentation, summarize it and engage in multiturn conversations to refine answers based on user queries.
If clarity and simplicity are your priorities, LangGraph is an excellent choice. Its node-based design provides a visual representation of your agent's workflow, making it easy to understand and manage. Defining discrete "nodes" for each step offers a more intuitive approach compared to code-heavy chaining. Use LangGraph when: You prefer a visual, easy-to-understand way to build AI agent workflows, are working on smaller applications or value a clear pipeline view. It's a great starting point for teams new to agent frameworks.
Although its simplicity is a strength, LangGraph might lack some of the more advanced features and extensive integrations found in LangChain. For very complex scenarios with numerous conditional branches or specialized tools, it might require more custom development. Consider other options if: You anticipate needing a vast array of pre-built integrations or highly intricate workflow logic right out of the box.
Typical Use Case: LangGraph is ideal for building small to medium-scale question-answering applications where you need a clear, step-by-step flow that's easy for developers to trace and understand. CrewAI (Python)
For enterprise-level applications requiring collaboration among multiple specialized AI agents, CrewAI is the framework to consider. Its focus on multi-agent orchestration, complete with role-based access control, logging, and monitoring, makes it suitable for complex organizational needs. The ability for agents to share results and escalate tasks enables sophisticated problem-solving. Use CrewAI when: You need to build applications with multiple interacting agents, have enterprise-level security and compliance requirements and need to manage complex, multistep workflows involving different specialized AI roles.
However, setting up and managing the interactions between multiple agents in CrewAI can introduce complexity. Debugging issues across a team of agents might also be more involved. Consider other options if: You're building single-agent applications or have simpler collaboration needs.
Typical Use Case: CrewAI is well-suited for regulated industries like finance, where you might need multiple agents to parse legal documents, check for policy risks and compile final summaries while maintaining detailed access logs and ensuring compliance. SpringAI (Java)
If your organization is heavily invested in the Java ecosystem, Spring AI offers a seamless way to integrate LLM capabilities into your existing applications. Its tight integration with Spring Boot and familiar Spring patterns makes it a natural choice for Java developers. Use Spring AI when: Your primary development language is Java and you want to easily embed LLM functionalities into your Spring Boot applications without switching languages.
Spring AI's primary limitation is its focus on Java. It's not the right choice for teams using other languages. Additionally, its built-in agent orchestration capabilities are currently less advanced compared to Python-based frameworks. Consider other options if: Your team primarily works with Python or you require more sophisticated, out-of-the-box agent orchestration features.
Typical Use Case: A healthcare firm maintaining Java microservices for patient data can use Spring AI to quickly add LLM-driven summarization or question-answer features to their existing endpoints. AutoGen (Python)
AutoGen is your go-to framework when the primary goal is to generate and refine high-quality code. Its unique coder-reviewer agent workflow leads to iterative improvements, reducing debugging time. Use AutoGen when: Your main application involves generating code and you value the automated review and refinement process to improve code quality and reduce errors.
The iterative code generation process can sometimes be slower than a single-pass approach. It also requires careful configuration to ensure the coder and reviewer agents work effectively together. Consider other options if: Your application doesn't primarily involve code generation or you need rapid, single-step outputs.
Typical Use Case: A development team building Python scripts for data cleaning can use AutoGen to have a "coder" agent propose an initial solution, followed by a "reviewer" agent that identifies potential issues and prompts revisions. Bedrock Agent (AWS)
If you're deeply embedded in the AWS ecosystem and want a hassle-free way to build intelligent applications, Bedrock Agents offers a fully managed experience. It gives you easy access to a variety of powerful language models and takes care of the underlying infrastructure, letting you focus on building your AI-powered solutions. Use Bedrock Agents when: You're all-in on AWS and prioritize a managed service for building AI agents with diverse foundation models and integration with other AWS tools.
However, remember that being tightly integrated with AWS means you're also tied to their platform. You'll have less direct control over the nuts and bolts, and costs can add up if your usage is high. Consider other options if: You prefer the flexibility and control of open-source frameworks or are looking for cost-optimization strategies that might be available outside of a fully managed environment.
Typical Use Case: A large e-commerce company already running entirely on AWS could use Bedrock Agents to create a sophisticated product recommendation system that not only understands what customers are asking but also dives into product details, compares options and offers personalized suggestions. Amazon is the leader in e-commerce and cloud computing, and it has several other growth drivers. CEO Andy Jassy expects a huge shift as clients move over to the cloud, and as the dominant player, Amazon should benefit. Amazon stock has gained 840% over the past 10 years. 10 stocks we like better than Amazon › Amazon's (NASDAQ: AMZN) reach stretches wide and deep. If you're like tens of millions of Americans, you rely on it to buy essentials and other items. But even if you aren't, you might be using the websites it powers through Amazon Web Services (AWS) or watching content from its film studios (it owns MGM and operates Amazon Prime Video). Amazon stock has created incredible shareholder value over the past few years as the company has built itself into the giant it is today. But is it still a massive wealth builder? Let's see if $10,000 invested today can turn into $1 million over the next 10 years. Amazon has many growing businesses, and it's benefiting from organic tailwinds, as well as making many improvements that have ripple effects across its enterprise. Amazon accounts for a staggering 40% of all U.S. e-commerce, according to some experts, putting it so far ahead of any competition -- Walmart accounts for about 6% -- that it would be almost impossible for anyone to overtake it in the foreseeable future. That creates a strong moat around its business, and likely why Warren Buffett has the stock in the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio. E-commerce sales aren't growing at a high rate, but Amazon is constantly upgrading the platform to protect its moat and get its loyal Prime members to become even more reliant on it for their everyday needs and more. It recently switched to a regional fulfillment network to have more products available to ship to customers closer to the final destination, and now it's restructuring its inbound channels to keep products flowing into these eight national distribution centers smoothly. In the 2025 first quarter, it hit a new record for delivery speed and had its highest-ever same- or next-day delivery rates. What's most exciting to investors today is generative artificial intelligence (AI). Amazon offers a huge assortment of tools and features through AWS to developers and small businesses. These include services like Amazon Bedrock, which gives clients access to a large range of large-language models (LLM) to build their own applications. It also offers tools for developers to build their own, completely custom LLMs, and it has premade applications for small businesses to use generative AI to create marketing campaigns, product descriptions, and more. The AI opportunity sits in tandem with the opportunity to grow the cloud. AWS is the largest global cloud services provider, and CEO Andy Jassy says that 85% of global information technology (IT) spend is still off the cloud. He sees it as a given that there's going to be a shift over the next 10 to 20 years, and when that shift happens, Amazon has more to gain than almost anyone else. He envisions a future not so far off where generative AI is used in the development of every new application, and Amazon is setting itself up to offer the most comprehensive solutions for developers and remain the cloud provider of choice for its millions of AWS clients. These are Amazon's twin growth engines, but there are more. Advertising is its fastest-growing segment, up 19% year over year in the first quarter, and there are new opportunities in advertising on its ad-supported streaming platform, as well as third-party outlets. Plus, investors shouldn't underestimate Amazon's ability to identify new growth industries and dominate them, like it's done in the past. It's trying to disrupt physical retail and healthcare, and there may be other businesses on the horizon. All that said, can a company as big as Amazon turn $10,000 into $1 million? To phrase it differently, turning $10,000 into $1 million means that the investment grows 100-fold, or by 10,000%. That's a huge feat. Even though Amazon stock has done more than that over its time on the market, it's not likely to do that again, even though it has incredible growth drivers and remains a top stock. Even over the past 10 years, it's only increased 840%. I say "only" because it's far from 10,000%, as high as it is. As its base gets bigger, and today it's the second-largest company in the world by sales behind Walmart, growth rates have been slowing down, and stock increases will reflect that. I could explain different scenarios, but it's simple. Just one example is that if Amazon stock were to even increase 10-fold, its market cap would surpass $21 trillion. Keeping its price-to-sales ratio constant, its sales would reach $6.5 trillion, implying a compound annual growth rate of 26%, much higher than recent rates, and next to impossible. Amazon is still a highly recommended stock to buy, offering growth prospects for shareholders, but it isn't likely to deliver the high returns of young growth stocks. In a way, the new technologies that we are seeing really highlight the role of humans in our world. Sure, we're using them to build things autonomously. There will be job displacement. But at the same time, there are stakeholder relationships that really make a difference day to day. For now, humans are still in the driver's seat. Navin Chaddha runs Mayfield, an investment firm that invests in seed rounds and A rounds, as well as B rounds of funding. The company boasts 120 IPOs and over 225 mergers and acquisitions. I interviewed Chaddha at Imagination in Action in April about the moving parts involved in making AI -related deals. One thing that came through is that as an investor, Chaddha wants to invest with partners early. 'The basic idea is, how do we become partners of entrepreneurs at the ideation stage, primarily when they are coming up with an idea, and help them create a company?' he said. 'We start with people, because our belief is people build products. People build companies. It's not the other way around.' Other suggestions offered by Chaddha in investment strategy involved looking for products that fit solutions, and valuing an approach over a time frame. He mentioned AI-native design as a goal. 'Our belief is (that) AI will manifest digital companions who collaborate with humans to help elevate them to become super-humans,' he said, promoting an idea he described as 'collaborative intelligence as a service' or, alternately, 'teammates as a service.' AI Teammates Karen Lee 'Every business function, every consumer function, is going to have a buddy, a teammate,' he said. At one point, talk turned to how humans and machines will communicate in the years ahead. After the iPhone, Chaddha suggested, it's hard to have a new user interface, but verbal chat, he imagined, could become the way of the future, for no-hands communication. 'The interface will be natural language,' he said. Evolution of User Interfaces Karen Lee We also talked about what I called 'the cognitive economy' and augmented intelligence. '(AI is) allowing humans to have cognitive capabilities, and together we're going to be able to do things which we weren't able to do before,' Chaddha said, invoking the ideas of superhuman speed and superhuman cognition. 'AI is a tool. It's a technology. We are the jockey, we're not the horse.' I also wanted to talk about Chaddha's assertion that we should be doing more events about AI in these years. 'We invest in relationships,' he said. 'Let's grow the pie. Let's bring the brightest people to the right relationships.' That jibed with me, as I want to continue putting on these events and setting up the broadest tent possible. In a major push towards tech-driven education, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Chairperson TG Sitharam announced that artificial intelligence (AI) will soon be embedded across all branches of technical education in India. Speaking at a parliamentary advisory committee meeting chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Indore, Sitharam said that the AICTE has formed an expert panel to revise the model curriculums of engineering, IT, and management studies to integrate AI components. "The committee has already conducted three meetings and is expected to submit its recommendations within the next month," he noted. Following this, the updated curriculums could be finalised within two months, paving the way for AI-based education to begin as early as the next academic year. While the Council had already launched a BTech course in AI and Data Science in 2017, this marks the first major step towards embedding AI into the foundational framework of all technical disciplines. Sitharam also highlighted efforts to promote education in Indian languages. Over the last two years, AICTE has made 1,000 textbooks available online in 12 Indian languages, with over seven lakh downloads recorded. Currently, 54 technical institutions in the country offer various courses in these regional languages. The meeting in Indore focused on encouraging education in Indian languages at school and higher education levels, aligning with the broader goals of the National Education Policy.
