Horse trained in Wales captures Irish Grand National to give Sean Bowen biggest win

Daily Mirror21-04-2025
Haiti Couleurs, trained by Rebecca Curtis, made all the running under Sean Bowen to land Ireland's richest jumps race on Easter Monday at Fairyhouse
A horse trained in west Wales captured the BoyleSports Irish Grand National to give jockey Sean Bowen the biggest success of his career. Haiti Couleurs, trained in Newport, Pembrokeshire, has propelled his trainer Rebecca Curtis back into the big race spotlight this season.
He has won three of his four starts over fences and proved his stamina credentials with a four and a half length victory in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Under Bowen, the 13-2 chance led from the start and found plenty at the finish to repel the late challenge of veteran Any Second Now leaving the 13-year-old to settle for second for the second year running.

The Willie Mullins-trained favourite Quai De Bourbon finished third and Dunboyne fourth.
Bowen, also from Pembrokeshire, will be crowned Britain's champion jump jockey for the first time on Saturday and victory in the £428,000 race at Fairyhouse, the richest jumps race run in Ireland, topped his other big race accomplishments.
Bowen said: 'I can't quite believe how easy it was all happening. He got into a great rhythm and jumped amazing. What a job Becky's done to keep bringing him back this season.
'There are two main Nationals, the Irish National and the English National. To win this and top of the season I've had is incredible.
'When you are champion jockey I thought that would fulfil my dreams but you always want a bit more and want them big winners and a big winner we've had.'

Curtis has trained six Cheltenham Festival winners but Haiti Couleur's victory in March was her first for five years.
Curtis said: 'I am so proud of the little horse. I got excited at the second last. I knew he would keep going because he is so tough. It's just brilliant.
'It's amazing, a massive boost to the yard and brilliant for the owners. It puts a little bit of faith back in them to hopefully reinvest. What we need now is a few more nice type horses. That's what we've been lacking over the last five to eight years.
'I don't have owners that can spend hundreds of thousands. We bought him for £68,000. I just like him as a horse. Could you imagine he could be a Gold Cup horse. He's not slow and he loves Cheltenham."

Zara Tindall's jewellery secret: The designer behind her 22 pairs of earrings

Jewellery brand Laurence Coste has risen to prominence since becoming a favourite of Zara Tindall. The daughter of Princess Anne debuted a pair of the brand's exquisite earrings at the Cheltenham Festival in 2020 and has remained a loyal devotee ever since - now owning no fewer than 22 designs. Introduced to Laurence Coste by her stylist Annie Miall, Zara's polished and confident sense of style aligns seamlessly with the brand's bold, statement-making jewels. Her recent outing at Royal Ascot was a case in point. Dressed in a monochrome ensemble by Laura Green, accessorised with a Juliette Botterill hat, Emmy London shoes, and Laurence Coste's eye-catching Cosima earrings, Zara commanded attention and admiration alike. 'I thought she looked absolument magnifique,' founder Laurence tells the Daily Mail. 'The moment I saw Zara's outfit, it instantly brought to mind Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady - timeless, elegant and chic. 'The Cosima earrings felt like the perfect finishing touch, and it made me so happy to see her pair such a graceful look with one of my signature designs.' The ensemble was the result of a collaboration between Zara's stylist Annie and Laurence Coste herself, who worked closely to curate the flawless look. 'I had no doubt she would look incredible, especially knowing Annie Miall was behind her Ascot wardrobe. Annie and I worked closely together on this, and I find her incredibly inspiring and professional. It was a fabulous success, and we feel so proud when we look back at the pictures.' The duo first connected ahead of Royal Ascot in 2024, when Zara selected Laurence Coste's delicate Milly Rose earrings to complement her Anna Mason floral print dress. 'We feel incredibly lucky to have had Annie, a good friend of our brand, introduce Zara to us for Royal Ascot 2024. We were thrilled that she loved our pieces and even more excited that she chose to return to us for more events,' Laurence says. 'Being represented by someone as elegant as Zara is truly flattering, and I'm sure it's also inspiring for many of my customers.' The Cosima earrings, worn by Zara on day three of Royal Ascot, are among Laurence Coste's most sought-after designs thanks to their delicate Lalique effect and baroque pearl drop - which was given a striking update for the royal. She explains: 'The Cosima has been a timeless classic over the years. To complement Zara's outfit, we gave the original design a subtle twist by adding gold-plated detailing to the baroque pearl, and Zara truly made them her own.' For day four of Ascot, Laurence once again crafted something unique for Zara, revamping the Luna aquamarine earrings to complement her powder blue Veronica Beard suit. This bespoke iteration showcased a mother-of-pearl top with a faceted aquamarine drop, radiating understated sophistication. 'We felt this soft, refined combination would not only complement her complexion and eye colour, but also make the outfit a winner,' the designer reveals. Laurence was so enamoured with these special editions that she chose to dedicate them to Zara herself, renaming them the Zara Cosima and Zara Luna earrings - now available both online and in-store. While Zara has recently favoured pearl drops, her collection also includes four versions of the Colette earrings - floral designs embellished with crystals - in shades of bright red, burgundy, gold and rose gold. Another standout choice in her jewellery repertoire is the Pipin earrings, a clustered design crafted from faceted beads, each hand-wired onto a silver-tone base for a sculptural, light-catching effect. Born in Paris, Laurence moved to London in the 1980s, bringing with her a passion for jewellery inspired by style icon Loulou de la Falaise. She went on to study History of Art at Christie's, an experience that proved instrumental in shaping the vision for her brand. 'I design earrings and necklaces to be worn, not just admired,' Laurence explains. 'These are pieces that instantly boost your confidence the moment you put them on, adding personality and character to any outfit.' Practicality is as important to her as beauty. With a lifestyle that moves between three boutiques, client meetings, evening engagements and family life, Laurence understands the need for designs that transition from day to evening. 'I always need a pair of earrings I can wear effortlessly from morning to night - and I believe that's what my clients look for, too. Versatility and comfort are what I keep in mind when I'm experimenting in the workshop.' Working exclusively with semi-precious stones, Laurence draws inspiration from the colours, textures and natural harmony of the world around us, particularly the sea and marine life. She compares her design process to cooking, noting that 'to create something truly special, you need the finest ingredients.' Her selection reflects this philosophy, incorporating gemstones such as amethyst and carnelian, alongside coloured Venetian glass, Swarovski crystal and freshwater pearls. With a focus on quality, colour and character, Laurence has developed an extensive collection of gemstones, which she regularly 'dives into' for bespoke commissions. Each piece is designed and handmade in Chelsea, with boutiques located on Brook Street, Walton Street and Sloane Street. These locations have quickly established themselves as destinations for clients seeking distinctive, original designs. Zara is a fan of Laurence Coste's Colette earrings, having showcased four variations of the floral design Zara stunned in the brand's Rachel drop earrings at Royal Ascot in 2023. She previously wore the Double Oak Leaf Earrings in gold at the Coronation Concert earlier that year Attending the 2024 Thanksgiving Service for King Constantine, Zara elevated her navy ensemble with Laurence Coste's Antalya earrings Working exclusively with semi-precious stones, Laurence draws inspiration from the colours, textures and natural harmony of the world around us, particularly the sea and marine life 'I always say we're all many women in one, and I design with that in mind. I want women to feel confident, to play, to experiment, and to make each piece their own. I celebrate the accessory, and jewellery, and give it the spotlight it deserves, because it reflects a woman's true personality,' Laurence says. 'Colour invites that kind of creativity, and I love how it encourages women to express every side of themselves.' In addition to their bold aesthetic, the jewellery stands out for its adaptability. Most designs are available as both clip-ons and for pierced ears, an increasingly uncommon option. Laurence describes this choice as 'essential,' ensuring her creations remain versatile and accessible without limiting individual preference. 'Almost all of my earrings are designed to be convertible, and we usually adapt them for our clients within just a day, if not in real time,' she explains. 'It's all about making sure every woman can enjoy beautiful, comfortable pieces that suit their lifestyle.' Sustainability also lies at the core of the brand. Every stone and pearl is responsibly and ethically sourced from sustainable suppliers around the world. Beyond design, Laurence ensures her work has a wider impact: a portion of proceeds supports charities dedicated to empowering women in disadvantaged circumstances globally.

Fans think they spotted huge clue to Taylor Swift's new era at Cardiff show

Fans think they spotted huge clue to Taylor Swift's new era at Cardiff show Fans believe that there were several hints dropped specifically around the Cardiff show during the Eras Tour which were never accidental Taylor Swift (Image: 2024 TASRM and Getty Images) If you've been anywhere near the internet recently, you might have seen that Taylor Swift's newly announced album has got more than just a few people talking. And Swifties are pointing to her Eras Tour stop in Cardiff as one of the clearest Easter eggs she left ahead of the news and if they're correct, the clues were hiding in plain sight. ‌ In her final Instagram post marking the end of the tour in December 2024, Taylor shared a playful photo of herself squeezed inside the "cleaning cart" which she used to secretly reach the stage each night. ‌ But many fans noticed that inside the cart sat a framed picture of Cardiff Bay. At first it seemed like an unusual detail, but once the new album announcement arrived, lots of people started talking about whether it was Taylor planting hints months in advance. ‌ As Mamamia pointed out, during her only Welsh date, Taylor debuted a bold orange-and-green combination - which appears to be the new theme for her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, for the 1989 portion of the show which was a look that hadn't been seen before on the tour. She doubled down on the colour choice by wearing an orange dress again for her 'surprise songs' set during the same show. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter Capital FM has also reminded fans that the Cardiff concert was also her 103rd show of the tour which is a number that immediately triggered "10/3" theories about a possible connection with October 3. Article continues below They noted: "While we were all scrambling to find Rep (TV) easter eggs at the 100th and 113th shows on the European leg and waiting for the double green 1989 combo, it looks like we should have had an eye on the 103rd show!" While speculation initially swirled around other milestone performances like the 100th and 113th shows, the Welsh date now looks more significant in hindsight, especially given how prominently it featured in The Eras Tour Book. One photograph even shows Taylor riding inside the cart with the same image of Cardiff Bay taped to its side, reinforcing the impression that placing the picture there was an intentional move. ‌ BuzzFeed also highlighted how the Cardiff image became a talking point online with fans pointing out the coincidence between the unusual colour scheme and the photo hidden inside the cart. The platform wrote: 'In the photo, there was, strangely, a photo of Cardiff, Wales, and people couldn't figure out why exactly she chose not only to keep it in there, but to highlight it. 'Well, Taylor had a rotating arsenal of outfits on her tour (so many that it sparked a massive, fantasy football-style game amongst fans), and what colours did she wear in Cardiff? ‌ '"As Twitter user @ia1mostdo pointed out, it was none other than the orange and green 1989 set and the orange surprise song dress." Social media has also been full of speculation from Swifties who have been trying to pull all of the pieces together. Content cannot be displayed without consent ‌ One user, @swiftieinkc said: 'So basically the entirety of the Cardiff show was one gigantic Easter egg for TS12, and we knew it.' Someone else added: 'When Cardiff didn't realise we were the ultimate Easter Egg.' All The Clues Taylor Swift Will Play The 2026 Super Bowl

Taylor Swift broke the internet when she announced details about her 12th studio album, The Life Of A Showgirl, after months of hints. Ahead of its release on 3 October, the star thrilled Swifties as she unveiled the record's artwork and the track listing. And now fans are convinced she's got another big surprise up her sleeve – plans to play the coveted Super Bowl Halftime Show next year. Taylor, who's dating NFL star and Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, has yet to add this career milestone to her huge list of accolades. She has dropped some 'Easter eggs', teasing at this potential gig, which will take place at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Here are all the clues that Taylor could play the 2026 Super Bowl aka Super Bowl LX… Taylor Swift ©Erika Goldring/TAS24/Getty Images for TAS Rights Management Taylor, 35, discussed her new 'obsession' with baking sourdough as she spoke about her new album on Travis and Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast. 'Sourdough has taken over my life in a huge way,' she said. 'It's become a huge, huge factor. I'm just, like, always baking bread and texting my friends and being like, 'Can I send you some bread? I need some feedback. Do you like this one better than you liked the other one? Like, I did the rise a little differently'.' But Swifties reckon the singer is cooking up more than just bread because Super Bowl LX takes places at the San Francisco 49ers' home stadium and their team mascot is none other than Sourdough Sam, a bearded gold miner who shares a name with Taylor's favourite new baked treat. Coincidence? The numbers 47 and 60 have been referenced a lot recently during Taylor's podcast appearance and they're both significant. She thanked Jason for 'screaming for, like, 47 seconds' at the start of the episode, which got sleuthing Swifties wondering if the number 47 'could be a connection' to the 47th stop on her record-breaking Eras tour, which was at the Levi's Stadium. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce ©Taylor said that she thinks about bread '60% of the time now'. The number 60 could refer to the Super Bowl, as next year will mark its 60th championship game. The singer has already admitted to loving numerological Easter eggs. 'I love numerology. I love math stuff, I love dates, that stuff I find really fun,' she said. 'My favourite one of those was when I was giving an honorary doctorate from NYU and I made the commencement speech. And I put so many lyrical Easter eggs in that speech that when the Midnights album came out after that, the fans were like, 'The whole speech was an Easter egg.' And that for me is really fun because they find it fun.' Levi's, who the stadium is named after following their sponsorship with the San Francisco 49ers, appears to be leaning into all the speculation too. The world-famous denim brand has posted a TikTok showing someone swapping the iconic red Levi's tag on a pair of jeans for an orange glittery one – much like the colour theme of Taylor's Showgirl era. 'Subtle swap for the big day,' Levi's said. Now what could they be referring to?
