CISF takes over security at Lengpui Airport in Mizoram
Aizawl: The central industrial security force (CISF) on Thursday took over the security of the Lengpui airport in the state capital, following a directive from the home affairs ministry (MHA).
'The deployment is part of the Government of India's broader strategy to enhance security across all civil aviation hubs in the country,' a statement issued by the Mizoram government read.
A formal induction ceremony was held at the airport where Mizoram director general of police (DGP) Anil Shukla handed over the CISF flag to the airport's chief airport security officer, marking the official transition.

An initial team of 121 CISF personnel, led by a deputy commandant, will take charge. The strength will gradually be increased to 214 personnel.
The CISF replaces the joint security setup previously managed by the Mizoram State Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which had been responsible for the airport's security since its operationalisation in 1999.
Lengpui Airport is now the 69th airport in the country to come under CISF security cover. It also marks the first CISF deployment at any facility in Mizoram, making it the first such unit in the Northeastern state.

A 25-year-Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer was killed and a 28-year-old man was severely injured after a car collided head-on with their motorcycle on a single-lane road in a rural area in Jewar, Greater Noida, on Saturday morning, police said on Sunday. The accident occurred because the car driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, said police, adding that was arrested at the scene and his vehicle was seized. The deceased, Sheespal Singh, a resident of Hasanpur village in Dankaur, Greater Noida, was posted at Parliament House in Delhi and had taken a day off to visit home, police said. The injured man was identified as Singh's relative, Jitendra Singh. 'The accident took place at 8am when Jitendra Singh was taking Singh to the bus stand. They were heading towards Khurja when a car coming from the opposite direction, from the Mathura side, collided with them head-on near Bankapur in Jewar,' said Sanjay Kumar Singh, station house officer, Jewar police station. The car driver, Ajay Sharma, a resident of Khurja, had driven a Khurja-basedfamily of five people to Mathura to offer prayers at a temple and was returning with them. However, he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and collided with the motorcycle, police said. 'The car crashed into a tree after hitting the bike. The family had a narrow escape as there is a trench beside the road — had the car not hit the tree, it could have fallen into the trench,' the SHO added. Passersby informed police and a team from Jewar police rushed to the scene. They took the injured to a nearby hospital where Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment while Jitendra Singh remains in critical condition. 'Singh is survived by his parents and wife, who is four months pregnant. Further investigation is underway,' SHO Singh said.

Fingerprint scanners in districts: Centre's revised procedure for foreigners ID portal
After facing technical issues in uploading biometrics of detected illegal migrants on Foreigners Identification Portal (FIP) of the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), the Centre has revised the procedure for the portal and asked states/UTs to now use fingerprint scanners available in districts under districts police module (DPM) of Immigration Visa Foreigner Registration Tracking system (IVFRT). The MHA in a communication earlier this month said that it has decided to review the tools of DPM and FIP for the deportation of illegal migrants with all stakeholders and found that several states/UTs were facing issues regarding digitization of fingerprints captured on paper and sending it to the NCRB for digitization. An official said that this led to 'certain gaps between data of taking fingerprints on paper by manual scanning as compared to digital record'. The official said, 'It has been decided by the Centre that the infrastructure and equipment of NAFIS will not be used for collecting of biometrics of detected illegal migrants on the FIP portal… Now onwards, the fingerprint scanners available at district under DPM of IVFRT will be used.' To facilitate deportation of illegally staying Rohingyas, the MHA had launched a portal in 2018 to collect biographic and biometric details after giving access to all states/UTs, the communication said. 'The DPM was rolled out in 2023 to enhance the capabilities for identification of overstaying foreigners and later the portal was upgraded into a comprehensive portal — FIP to cover illegal migrants from all countries. It was then decided that for capturing biometrics of illegal migrants in FIP, NAFIS machines provided by the NCRB, will be utilised and that biometric data will be captured in the standardised format for inter-operable use,' the official said. The NCRB three years ago had implemented the NAFIS project, providing equipment to all districts, police commissionerates, state fingerprint bureau, the central fingerprint bureau and central law enforcement agencies to establish a national repository of criminal fingerprints. Also, the fingerprint identification system of all States/UTs has been integrated with NAFIS, creating a national repository of 1.06 crore criminal fingerprint records till October 31 last year. Later, the database of FIP was also added in the NAFIS. After reviewing, it has been decided that fingerprint, scanners, computers and webcams will also be provided to police stations, especially in the identified hotspots, in the holding (detention) centres and also in the Border Out Posts (BOPs) manned by the Border Guarding Forces for collection of biometrics of detected illegal migrants, and uploaded by agencies concerned on the FIP. '…the Ministry of External Affairs will take further action for getting nationality verification of the cases of illegal migrants, referred to them on the FIP Portal by the Foreigners Registration Office (FROs),' an official said. 'The Bureau of Immigration has been made the nodal authority at the Central level through Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRROs) for the FIP and they have to ensure two things: the migration data from the FIP to IVFRT system and data will not be transferred to the NAFIS now onwards,' a senior official said. Centre hands over Bajrang Dal activist Suhas Shetty murder case to NIA
ANI 08 Jun 2025, 20:40 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has handed over the investigation into the murder of former Bajrang Dal activist Suhas Shetty to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), marking a significant move amid rising concerns over possible larger conspiracies behind the incident. Shetty, a prominent right-wing youth leader associated with the Bajrang Dal in Karnataka's coastal belt, was brutally murdered last month in Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada district. The activist, in his early 30s, was attacked by unidentified assailants while returning home late at night. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The incident triggered widespread protests in the region, with local Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) units alleging a targeted killing. Official sources, privy to the development, told ANI that 'the MHA has handed over the case to the NIA for investigation and registration.' On May 1, a group of people came in two vehicles and blocked the way of Shetty, who was moving in a car with his friends. They then hacked Shetty to death.
