The glaring Rangers and 49ers quirk of history spotted by NFL that could see Ibrox legions quids in

Daily Record2 days ago

Light Blue legions will be hoping a repeat of previous successes for the two respective sporting giants is on the cards again
It might be the twist of fate that could earn Rangers fans a fortune next season.
The Ibrox punters' motto ever since their Helicopter Sunday title triumph 20 years ago has been 'Keep Believing'.

And after being taken over by Andrew Cavenagh and the San Francisco 49ers, they're dreaming of another prophecy coming true.

If it does - at odds of 50/1 with some bookies - it could mean supporters end up cashing in next May.
Under new American ownership, the Ibrox club will attempt to challenge Celtic for the Premiership and bid to stop the Hoops getting five-in-a-row.
And on the other side of the Big Pond, their new NFL partners the 49ers are aiming to win their first Super Bowl in 30 years.
If you stick a double on Bet365, with Gers at 2/1 for the title and the 49ers at a huge 16/1 for their big prize - you're getting combined odds of 50/1.
It might seem like a long shot but maybe not if you believe in good omens.
Because history tells you that the last three times San Francisco have won the Super Bowl - Rangers have won the league in Scotland.

The 49ers have been successful in 1989, 1990 and 1995 - which have coincided with the Ibrox men becoming champions.
In '89, they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, in '90 they hammered the Denver Broncos and in '95 they beat the San Diego Chargers.
Meanwhile, Rangers' last title win was in 2021 when Steven Gerrard was in charge.
Their fans will be hoping the run continues this season - even if the NFL side are big outsiders to lift the Super Bowl for a sixth time.
The stat was shared by NFL UK on Instagram after the 49ers Enterprises successful takeover at Ibrox along with US tycoon Cavenagh last week.

Tom Brady reveals why he will never criticize Patrick Mahomes amid $375m Fox Sports deal

Tom Brady has opened up on why he will never be too critical of fellow quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes. Brady is the most successful quarterback of all time, having won seven Super Bowls during a Hall of Fame career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He recently finished his first season as an NFL analyst after signing a 10-year, $375million deal with Fox Sports. Brady came in for criticism after moving into the broadcast booth and it was recently put to the 47-year-old that he was 'very supportive' of Mahomes from behind the mic. Mahomes is considered the biggest threat to Brady's Super Bowl record, having led the Kansas City Chiefs to five of the past six Super Bowls. Brady helped the Bucs beat the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV but he told Complex Sports: 'How can I throw shade at someone who is as amazing as he is?' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Complex Sports (@complexsports) The NFL legend insisted he wants to be 'honest' and 'up front' with viewers but Brady also admitted that he is reluctant to be harsh on his fellow quarterbacks. 'I know what he's been through and I think the one position I'm in now as a broadcaster is I do feel responsibility a) to tell the fans what I see and be honest and up front about everything. 'But also realize that what these guys are doing on the field is extremely difficult. It's a high level of skill. You're looking at any of the 32 teams who have a starting quarterback out there. 'That guy's one of the best in the world at what he does. So do they make the right plays all the time? Certainly not. By the way, neither did I. 'And I think you have to have this context and perspective and you realize that it's not about this harsh critique and that's not really what it's all about anyway. 'To me, it's more about: let's point out the greatness of these individual players. Have fun, enjoy it, entertain a little bit and really try to to educate people a little bit.'

CALUM CROWE: Russell Martin's vision of footballing 'utopia' won't wash at Rangers. He will know that you either win trophies at Ibrox or you're deemed a failure

When Rangers were weighing up the credentials of all the contenders for their managerial vacancy, it was clear that Russell Martin ticked a lot of boxes. A talented and progressive young coach with a clear style of play? Check. Someone who knows the club and has experience of Scottish football? Check. Someone with a track record of improving and developing young players? Yep. Someone who is articulate, intelligent, and a natural leader? Again, check.
