Four killed, three injured as lorry rams into car in Andhra Pradesh
KADAPA: A road accident at the fourth curve of Guvvalacheruvu ghat in Chinthakommadinne mandal, Kadapa district, claimed the lives of four members of a family and left three others injured on Saturday.
Chinthakommadinne Police said a lorry transporting sugar from Lillipuram in Tamil Nadu to Hyderabad rammed into a car after reportedly suffering brake failure. A family was travelling from Bengaluru to their native village at Chintaputtayapalle in the car.
Police identified the deceased as Software Engineer Basineni Sreekanth Reddy (32), his wife Nagireddy Sirisha (27), and two children from their extended family – Harshitha Reddy (9) and Rishikesh Reddy (11). The accident left their daughter, Trishika Reddy, orphaned.
'Sreekanth Reddy, who worked as a software engineer in Bengaluru, was visiting his native village to attend the 41st-day celebrations of a newly consecrated Sri Rama temple he had built,' police said.
The family, including Sreekanth, Sirisha, their daughter Trishika, Sirisha's elder sister Kokatum Shashikala, her two children, and another relative, Siddhamurthy Swarna, were travelling in a KA 53 MN 2664 car. As they approached the fourth curve of the ghat, the speeding lorry crashed into the car, and sugar sacks from the vehicle fell onto it, crushing it completely.
Circle Inspector Shankar Naik, Brake Inspector Vijay Bhaskar, firefighters, and locals used a JCB and hydraulic cutter to rescue victims trapped in a mangled car.
Sreekanth and Sirisha died on the spot, while Harshitha and Rishikesh succumbed at the government hospital. Shashikala, who lost both her children, survived with injuries. She is the wife of software engineer Tirupathi Reddy, currently in Germany. Police sent the bodies for post-mortem and launched an investigation.

Gurugram: Three people were killed and five others critically injured after a speeding car rammed into another vehicle at a major intersection on National Highway-19 in Faridabad early Saturday morning, police said. Five employees of JCB India Limited were returning to their respective homes in Hodal and Palwal from the company's headquarters after a night shift in a Maruti Ertiga when an MG Hector, with three occupants, rammed into it from the accident took place at JCB Chowk near Sector-55 around 2 am. The deceased were identified as Tevinder, Manish, and Deepanshu, all aged between 25 and 30 years, station house officer of the Sector-58 police station Vinod Kumar said. 'They all were employees of JCB and were travelling in the Ertiga with two more colleagues. The crash took place as soon as the Ertiga reached the chowk. A speeding MG Hector, having three occupants, rammed it from the right. The collision caused the Ertiga to flip multiple times on the NH and it later caught fire,' Kumar said. The police are investigating to ascertain what led to the crash. 'However, prima facie it seems that the Hector driver didn't slow down prior to the intersection,' he said. Mediator between bank agents, Hagawane held in vehicle case
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly acting as a middleman between Shashank Hagawane and three bank recovery agents to release a seized heavy machine. The accused, Pranay Tukaram Sathe of Kothrud, who works as a bank recovery agent, was arrested at around 2:50 pm on Friday. In this case, Shashank Hagavane, his mother and Sathe were remanded to police custody till June 7. Shivaji Pawar, DCP Zone-III, said, 'The accused was mediator between unauthorised bank recovery agents and Shashank Hagawane. Hagawane had sent ₹30,000 to Sathe through his driver Devanand Koli via GPay. Later, Sathe paid that amount to the arrested accused Ganesh Potale via the same mode.' Mahalunge MIDC Police on Thursday arrested three recovery agents of IndusInd Bank, Yogesh Raskar, Ganesh Potale, and Vaibhav Pingle, for allegedly seizing a JCB machine without authorisation. The machine, owned by Prashant Yelwande, was reportedly handed over to Shashank. According to the police, the bank's legal manager confirmed that no instructions had been issued to the recovery agency regarding the seizure. Despite this, the trio proceeded with the action, leading to their arrest. Yelwande, who lodged the FIR, alleged that Lata and Shashank Hagawane purchased JCB machines worth ₹24 lakh from him, paying an advance of ₹5 lakh. However, it was later discovered that the machines carried outstanding EMIs totalling ₹19 lakh with IndusInd Bank, which the Hagawanes had agreed to repay at ₹50,000 per month. According to the complaint, due to non-payment, the bank seized the machines in 2024, leaving Yelwande without either the equipment or the remaining payment. When Yelwande demanded his money back, he was allegedly threatened at gunpoint by the Hagawane family. A case was lodged at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 34 (common intention), and Section 30 of the Arms Act.

3 loan recovery agents held for ‘illegally giving farmer's JCB to dowry death accused Shashank Hagawane'
The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Thursday arrested three loan recovery agents in connection with the offence lodged against Vaishnavi Hagawane's husband, Shashank, and mother-in-law, Lata, for allegedly cheating and threatening a farmer at gunpoint. The Hagawane family hit the headlines last month after Vaishnavi, the daughter-in-law of expelled Nationalist Congress Party leader Rajendra Hagawane, allegedly died by suicide following harassment over dowry. Shashank and Lata were arrested after Prashant Yelwande, a farmer from Nigoje village in Khed taluka of Pune district, lodged a First Information Report at the Mahalunge MIDC police station in Pimpri Chinchwad on May 29. The duo were remanded to police custody till June 6 for further investigation. The police identified the accused arrested on Thursday as Yogesh Rajendra Raskar, 25, Ganesh Potle, 30, and Vaibhav Pingle, 27, of Talegaon Dhamdhere. According to the police, Yelwande had purchased a JCB from Shashank and Lata for Rs 24 lakh in March 2022. There was a bank loan of about Rs 19 lakh on the said machine, and Yelwande paid Rs 5 lakh and took possession of it, the police added. It was allegedly decided that he should further pay Rs 50,000 per month to the Hagawanes for repaying the loan. The police said Yelwande paid Rs 6.7 lakh to Shashank and Lata, but they did not deposit the money in the bank for loan repayment. Shivaji Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pimpri Chinchwad, said that the legal manager of the bank had not given any instructions to the recovery agency for taking away the JCB from Yelwande. 'But still, the accused Raskar, Potle and Pingle, working for the private recovery agency, illegally took the JCB from Yelwande and gave it to Shashank Hagawane around August 2024. So we have placed the three persons under arrest,' he added. According to the police, after the JCB was taken away from him, Yelwande demanded his money, around Rs 11.7 lakh, from the Hagawane family. But Shashank allegedly threatened him at gunpoint. The police had earlier arrested Shashank, Lata and others from the Hagawane family for the alleged dowry death of his wife Vaishnavi at their residence in Bhukum. Vaishnavi's father Anil Kaspate had lodged an FIR in this case at the Bavdhan police station in Pimpri Chinchwad on May 17, alleging that Vaishnavi's in-laws had been abusing her, mentally and physically, demanding Rs 2 crore to purchase a property. Kaspate also said in the FIR that there were injury marks on Vaishnavi's body, alleging that this suggested physical abuse, adding that he feared that his daughter had been murdered.
