Sanjay Dutt's Best Friend, Director Of Tridev And Mohra, Fired Actor From Film: 'He Needed Rehab'

News186 days ago
Rajiv Rai says letting go of Sanjay Dutt during Yudh was painful but necessary and believes the move helped the actor start his recovery.
Director Rajiv Rai has opened up about one of the most difficult decisions of his career – letting go of Sanjay Dutt from his film Yudh. Speaking in a recent interview, the filmmaker shared that the two were once extremely close, but their relationship was tested when Dutt's drug problems began to affect the film's progress.
Rai said he had already filmed 14 reels with Dutt and described those working days as the best of his life. 'In my heart of hearts, he's still my best friend. I can never forget those days, because they were the best days of my life."
At the time, Sanjay was struggling with substance use and was eventually sent to rehab in Florida. Rai said he had spoken to Sanjay's father, actor and politician Sunil Dutt, about the situation. 'Sanju was not well. He needed rehab in Florida. I spoke to his father and told him to get him out of this… Whatever this is… I was very concerned."
Despite their deep personal ties, Rai said that he made the decision based on what he believed was best for both Sanjay and the film. 'If I had not taken this drastic step then, he wouldn't have made the changes in his life. I had to forgo my friendship with him."
Sunil Dutt had asked Rai and his father, producer Gulshan Rai, to give Sanjay another chance. But the team decided not to delay the project. 'He'd keep requesting me to give him another chance. He was very upset about the situation as well. But I told him that he needs the electric shock."
Rai added that he didn't hold anything against Sanjay and still speaks about that period with emotion. 'Things didn't work out professionally between me and Sanju, and it was for his own good. He may love me for it or hate me for it, but I don't know, because we've never spoken about it… I have nothing bad to say about it."
While their professional relationship didn't continue after Yudh, Rai's decision might have played a small role in pushing Dutt toward recovery. Though Sanjay faced many more challenges later – including legal battles and a cancer diagnosis – he returned to the industry and rebuilt his career.

Indian dance troupe mesmerises packed auditorium in Israel

Haifa (Israel), Aug 4 (PTI) India enthusiasts in Israel descended on the northern Israeli coastal city of Haifa on Monday evening to witness a rich and impressive dance performance that blended the traditional Indian dance form of Odissi with modern styles, including fusion, Bollywood, urban dance and even some shades of Middle-Eastern influences. Young dancers from the Indian dance troupe Amaiza, founded by dancer and choreographer Nitisha Nanda, known for her appearances in leading reality shows 'So You Think You Can Dance India" and 'India's Got Talent", gave a captivating performance in front of a packed Beit Aba Hushi auditorium, with the 500 people in the audience often cheering in delight. The Embassy of India in Israel, in collaboration with the Haifa Municipality, the Indian Cultural Centre and the Port of Haifa, hosted the vibrant cultural event, 'celebrating the deepening friendship between India and Israel". The northern Israeli coastal city of Haifa has a deep connection with India, having been liberated from the Ottomans in 1918 by Indian soldiers, and Major Dalpat Singh is known as the 'Hero of Haifa" for leading a successful cavalry charge that shocked military historians by its sheer audacity. 'We were taught in school that the British liberated Haifa, but I later learned that it was Indian soldiers who shed their blood to free the city," Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav told the audience. 'Once a year, we gather at the city's cemetery to honour the Indian soldiers who gave their lives to protect us," Yahav said, emphasising the city's strong bond with India. 'The relationship between India and Israel, especially with the city of Haifa, is built on trust, mutual respect and lasting friendship," India's Ambassador to Israel, J P Singh, said. 'This cultural performance is dedicated to the people of Haifa, a city with which India shares deep historical bonds. During World War I, Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives in the Battle of the Liberation of Haifa," Singh stressed. Dalpat Singh made the ultimate sacrifice in that battle, which the Indian cavalry forces fought bravely under dire circumstances to inscribe their names in the last 'major cavalry charge in history". The performance in Haifa mesmerised the audience with its passion, precision and energy, showcasing both the traditional and contemporary spirit of Indian culture. It was an evening of colour, rhythm and movement — a powerful artistic experience that left a lasting impression on the Israeli audience. The event marked the festive launch of the troupe's Israel tour, with upcoming performances scheduled at Netanya on August 5, Or Akiva on August 6 and Kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek on August 7. Tamannaah Bhatia Swears By Morning 'Thook' For Pimples, Fans Say ‘It Actually Works'

Last Updated: Tamannaah Bhatia says she uses morning spit on her face to prevent pimples before brushing. Social media reacts, some call it effective, others call it risky. Tamannaah Bhatia, fondly known as the 'Milky Beauty' in the South Indian film industry, has always left fans curious about the secret behind her flawless skin. Recently, she made a surprising revelation that's left the internet buzzing. In an interaction with The Lallantop, Tamannaah shared a rather unconventional skincare ritual: she uses her morning saliva on her face to avoid pimples and it must be done before brushing her teeth. When Tamannaah casually mentioned this morning ritual during the interview, the room collectively gasped. Even the host appeared visibly stunned. 'Before brushing, just thook (spit)," she laughed, leaving everyone in splits. But she was serious and it turns out she's not alone in this. As clips from the interview went viral, many social media users came forward to agree with Tamannaah's unique hack. One fan commented, 'I thought I was the only one doing that," while another added, 'She is true, using this hack since years." Some even claimed the method works for eye infections as well, citing old household remedies. 'The saliva immediately after you wake up… use it for eye infection… it works there too," read one comment. However, not everyone is convinced. Several users raised concerns about the scientific validity of the trick. One sceptical user explained, 'Saliva does have antibacterial enzymes, but they are not strong enough to treat acne-causing bacteria effectively. Pimples are caused by more than just bacteria—clogged pores, excess oil, and inflammation play a big part. Saliva doesn't fix those." Despite the polarising opinions, the conversation sparked by Tamannaah's beauty secret has been an interesting mix of surprise, nostalgia, and debate. Whether you believe in the 'morning spit remedy" or not, it certainly makes for a memorable skincare confession. On the work front, Tamannaah was recently seen grooving to the track Nasha from Raid 2. She will next be seen opposite Ajay Devgn in Ranger. Additionally, she is also working on TVF's ambitious mythological project Vvan alongside Sidharth Malhotra. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
