I'm reclining on a sunshine-yellow sofa, watching a couple enter the final throes of a chess game before flicking through a weighty tome analysing Lewis Hamilton's greatest achievements. Then 3pm rolls around and the couple dash to the terrace to watch the man himself race past at 200mph. The living room-like House 44 suite, a collaboration between Lewis Hamilton, F1 and Soho House unveiled at Silverstone, is the latest addition to the Paddock Club — the vast hospitality complex that overlooks the starting grid. In 2025 the suite will feature at the upcoming Netherlands, Italy, Mexico, Las Vegas and UAE grands prix. 'The House 44 suite is an amazing way of experiencing a Formula 1 race weekend,' says Lewis Hamilton. 'Working closely with Soho House and F1, I wanted to design a space I'd choose for myself if I wasn't on track.' Even the drinks are Hamilton-themed. At the bar, clad with studded metal panels recalling the stripped-back bodywork of a 1950s grand prix car, there's free-flowing Moët alongside cocktails made with Almave. Co-founded by Hamilton, it's the world's first non-alcoholic blue agave spirit brand. The House 44 layout and size will vary slightly depending on the track, but the capacity will stay between 100 and 200 people, making it smaller and more intimate than most F1 Paddock Club suites. The overall sense is of cosiness — it's not a place where you need to know your driveshaft from your DRS. My favourite spot? Perched next to the long, rustic wooden table, watching the on-track action on a screen suspended above a sideboard topped with pot plants and a stack of books pinioned by a starfish-shaped paperweight. If I could design my dream living room, this might just be it. Guests don't need Soho House membership — just a minimum of $12,000 (about £8,900) for a three-day race weekend ticket. Added extras include pit walks, paddock tours and appearances from Sir Lewis. The Singapore GP's Twenty3 is a multilevel trackside retreat famous for its multiple vantage points (you'll find it at the track's final turn, which means unbeatable views of the starting line and post-race fireworks) and entertainment — in previous years performers have included aerial silk acrobats and fire poi spinners. But it's the culinary offerings that put it on the map. Highlights include pop-ups from Michelin-starred chefs (at the GP in October sit-down restaurants will include one from the Seoul-based Soigné, which has two Michelin stars, and La Scène, a Paris bistro also with two stars). Meanwhile, pitstops for thirsty race fans will include one from Barcelona's Paradiso Bar, which bagged a spot in the top 10 of the World's 50 Best Bars 2024. Finally, it's worth bearing in mind this is a race where those vantage points are worth the expense. The action-packed Singapore GP — F1's first night-time race, wrapped around the spectacular Marina Bay — makes for a breathtaking backdrop. From £4,760 for a three-day ticket, A fun fact? The first Las Vegas GP took place in 1981, when the cars raced around the parking lot of the Caesars Palace hotel. There wasn't another Las Vegas GP until 2023, when F1's speed machines raced down the city's neon-lit Strip. Perhaps unsurprisingly the hospitality offerings are as extravagant as it gets, and the pricier offerings include the Gordon Ramsay at F1 Garage — with tickets starting from £20,000. A more affordable (but equally opulent) option for race weekend (in 2025 this will be November 20-22) is Skybox, with its Rat Pack-inspired decor (think vast expanses of red velvet and lots of feathers). This hospitality suite, above the Heineken Silver Main Grandstand, offers stunning views of the starting line while guests feast on gourmet cuisine and toast the race's return to Vegas with cocktails prepared by the city's top mixologists. Tickets include a Heineken Silver Main Grandstand seat in addition to suite access. The suite's proximity to the Heineken Silver Stage is a big draw — it's the setting for driver appearances as well as live music. From £6,530 for a three-day ticket, The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix's 360 at Sixteen hospitality area, which will launch at this December's event, will have a prime position — it will be located at turn 16, which means brilliant views of the finishing straight as well as the circuit's famous chicane section. It will be a multilevel lounge with leafy areas and terraces overlooking the pitlane. Perks for guests include pit walks and complimentary access to nearby attractions such as Warner Bros World Yas Island Abu Dhabi and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Created for guests invited by the team or its partners, it will appear at the Singapore, Austin, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi GPs in 2025 (2026's races are to be confirmed). Although exact layouts might vary, staples will include a large central bar, an open-plan layout and vast expanses of dark oak and light stone, and a central stage will be the setting for appearances by team members, including drivers. The vibe? Decadent but fun — at the British Grand Prix there were menu holders made from wheel nuts, and guests can ask for their initials to be embroidered on to complimentary ticket wallets and luggage labels from Carl Friedrik (one of the team's sponsors). Marcus Prosser, the director of marketing at Atlassian Williams Racing, believes this bespoke approach is the way forward. 'Today the F1 hospitality landscape is shifting from a one-size-fits-all to more meaningful, personalised experiences,' Prosser says. Entry to the suite is by invitation only

Former child star Alyson Stoner revealed that they went to a 'medical weight loss camp' in preparation to audition for the lead role in The Hunger Games - which went to Jennifer Lawrence. The 31-year-old Camp Rock alum — who previously ended their feud with Demi Lovato — got candid about the 'strenuous' lengths they took in their upcoming memoir Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything which hits shelves on August 12. Alyson — who came out as queer in 2018 and uses they/them pronouns — described the workout regime and diet they underwent while simultaneously battling an eating disorder. In an excerpt of the book, per Vanity Fair, the star penned that playing Katniss would be the 'ultimate role' and 'ultimate strong female lead.' They continued, 'But the role was playing with fire for me. Katniss was characteristically thin — not starving, but small enough to reflect growing up in an underfed district — and muscular from hunting and archery. 'If I was going to devote myself to checking every box of the character description, I had to commit to strenuous training without fully succumbing to my eating disorder.' Alyson began undergoing more intense workouts months before the audition. The star explained that they were ready for such a pivotal role in their career and explained, 'I'd spent my whole career erring on the side of practicality and it hadn't amounted to a breakthrough. So this time, I jumped for the moon.' At the age of 17, Alyson was approved to attend a 'world-renowned medical weight loss camp' — which offered a two-week program that included 'seven hours of daily exercise on a calorie deficit.' At the time, the former Disney channel star admitted to already being underweight and wrote that they 'didn't recognize the irrational exceptions that doctors (and society) made for Hollywood, because it was all I knew.' Alyson recalled getting a physical done when they were 10 before filming Cheaper By The Dozen. They explained a doctor found a heart murmur but didn't add the discovery to their file 'because it "might stop the production company from letting you work." 'I followed the doctor's orders and ignored the murmur like he did, deducing that Hollywood must exist above medicine, above the law, and even above common sense.' Alyson's initial goal when preparing for the Katniss audition was not to lose weight but instead build muscle. At the age of 17, Alyson was approved to attend a 'world-renowned medical weight loss camp' — which offered a two-week program that included 'seven hours of daily exercise on a calorie deficit'; seen in 2010 at age 17 in NYC 'Doctors and trainers should've never permitted an underweight minor to do seven hours of fourteen-mile hikes, heavy lifting, and high-intensity cardio,' the star penned. 'But all I had to say was that I was training for an acting role. They assessed me as mentally stable and opened the door.' By the end of two weeks, Alyson revealed the results from the intense training and diet and said their 'body fat percentage dropped into the range of elite gymnasts.' The star shared how they became 'hooked' on the regime which negatively affected their immune system and caused massive fatigue as well as lightheadedness. Alyson prepared three scenes for the day of the audition and one of the scenes ended up being cut. They waited to hear back following the audition for days, and their body ended up going into 'starvation mode.' Alyson recalled 'completing the biggest binge of my life' and wrote, 'Twelve hours later, I awoke to a revolting migraine and lethargy. 'Somehow, I was still craving sugar. But before I could think about spoiling another day, I had to face the self-inflicted damage of the night before.' The star added, 'When I stepped onto the scale, I rubbed my eyes in disbelief. What the hell? I gained back every single pound I lost over two months? In a few hours?! It was my worst nightmare. 'My body had held on to every morsel of food and liquid ounce, unsure when it would be fed again. All my progress was erased.' While Alyson did not end up winning the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise, they are known for other projects. The star appeared in movies such as Cheaper By The Dozen (2003), Step Up (2008) as well as the Disney channel movies Camp Rock (2008) and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010). Alyson showcased their dance skills in the past by appearing in Missy Elliot's 2002 music for Work It at the age of nine. I've watched the Titanic movie multiple times - but only just realised a major detail about Rose
A fiery debate erupted between the hosts of a New Zealand morning radio show over the 1997 Hollywood blockbuster movie Titanic. A recent segment on The Edge NZ saw announcer Dan Webby passionately argue that he'd always believed the main character in the film, Rose, was based on a real person. Furthermore, he felt the movie led him to believe that the woman who appeared as the older version of Rose was in fact the real-life person whom the story was based on. 'I thought for many, many years that the old lady was legit on the Titanic and she was Rose in real life,' Dan told his co-hosts. 'You know how it sort of crosses back between documentary?' he explained. Flabbergasted, co-host Ash London promptly corrected Dan's error. 'No part of this film is a documentary. It's people acting,' she replied. The breakfast announcers continued to press Dan on how he'd come to the conclusion that Rose was a real person in the movie, he explained that it was because the sections of the film she was featured in were 'filmed in a documentary style'. '[W]hen she turns up on the helicopter… I was like, "Oh, my God, this is fantastic - they brought her in for the movie. She knows the story",' he said. Fellow announcer Clinton Randell proceeded to point out that there was no logic to this assumption. 'Wouldn't you have done the maths?' Clinton questioned. 'The Titanic sank in 1912 and the movie came out in '97, so that's 85 years ago. Bro, she would be 110!' But Dan continued to insist that he wasn't alone in mistakenly believing that the elderly woman in the Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio film was a real person. 'The number of people that stand with me, you're gonna look like the idiot here,' Dan said. And he was right. The show quickly began to receive a flurry of texts and messages from listeners confirming that they too had made this mistake about the award-winning film. When a clip of the radio segment was later posted to TikTok, it was also inundated with replies from movie-goers who'd also presumed the elderly woman was a real-life Titanic survivor. An NZ radio announcer felt that Titanic had a 'documentary style' in the sections featuring the older Rose, leading himself - and others - to mistakenly believe that Rose was a real person, not an actress 'I 100 per cent also thought that,' read one comment. 'Is she not the real Rose? I've been living a lie,' added another. 'I can't believe it's not the real Rose!!' chimed in a third. One woman even explained that she'd wound up 'arguing' with her husband about the older Rose in the film being a real person, only to be proven wrong when they'd Googled it. In the movie, the elderly 100-year-old character of Rose Dawson Calvert was played by veteran actress Gloria Stuart. Her appearance in Titanic was her most well-known and earned nominations for Best Supporting Actress at both the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes. Gloria's 75-year acting career also included credits such as the 1997 film Batman & Robin, and guest roles on TV shows such as The Waltons, Murder, She Wrote, Touched by an Angel and General Hospital. In 2000, the actress was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Gloria lived to be 100 years old - the exact same age as her most famous on-screen role of Rose. She passed away in September 2010. Titanic director James Cameron has previously confirmed that although the character of Rose is not real, the character was inspired by a real person, American artist Beatrice Wood. The acclaimed filmmaker said he drew inspiration for Rose's personality after reading a biography about the artist - and particularly her rebellious spirit and family background. However, Beatrice was not a passenger on the Titanic. Film buffs have also previously noted that while there was a real-life passenger named Rose on-board the Titanic, her life story is not the same as the Rose character in the movie. The RMS Titanic sank on 15 April 1912, only four days into its maiden voyage. At the time, it was the largest ocean liner in service. The ship struck an iceberg and sank in under three hours. This resulted in the deaths of 1,635 passengers on board, making it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.
