He stated that the victim's mother had handed over her mobile phone to authorities for forensic examination.
Such cooperation reflects the family's trust in the investigative process, he added.
'When the family places its trust, we should give the police space to carry out their duties and responsibilities based on that information,' he said.
Fahmi spoke after visiting the Sekolah Rendah Agama Al-Khawarizmi temporary evacuation centre for Pantai Dalam fire victims.
The Attorney General's Chambers has directed police to exhume Zara Qairina's body for a post-mortem, he noted.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail assured the process would be expedited, Fahmi added.
'We leave it to the authorities to handle this properly and without delay,' he said.
He expressed hope that investigation papers would be completed swiftly for the Deputy Public Prosecutor's review.
Fahmi also cautioned the public against vigilantism over unverified social media claims.
He warned that such actions could disrupt investigations and carry legal consequences.
'Don't take matters into your own hands,' he stressed.
Amendments to the Penal Code now classify bullying as a criminal offence, he highlighted.
This includes physical, mental, and online harassment, he clarified.
Toxic behaviour like doxxing with harmful intent is also punishable, he said.
Fahmi noted excessive speculation, including false claims about the victim being put in a washing machine.
The individual spreading that claim has since apologised, he added.
Earlier, Fahmi attended the launch of the 2025 Federal Territory Child Protection Advocacy Programme.
The initiative aims to raise awareness on child abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
Zara Qairina, 13, died on July 17 at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
She was found unconscious in a drain near her religious school hostel in Papar on July 16. - Bernama

Man, 81, burns care centre following row with caretaker
PADANG BESAR: An elderly man allegedly set fire to a senior citizens' care centre in Kaki Bukit today after he was denied permission to travel to Kangar with his girlfriend to get a hearing aid. Padang Besar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Shokri Abdullah said preliminary investigations into the 8.31am incident revealed that the facility housed 20 elderly residents, one of whom is believed to have started the fire. "Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the care centre showed that the blaze was believed to have been ignited by an 81-year-old male resident. "The suspect allegedly started the fire in a cupboard in the kitchen area, which then spread to the main hall, destroying about 50 per cent of the space," he said in a statement today. Shokri said investigations later found that the act was fuelled by the suspect's dissatisfaction with the centre's caretaker. "The suspect was reportedly upset after being refused permission to travel to Kangar to get a hearing aid with his girlfriend, who is also a resident at the centre. "The estimated losses are still being assessed," he said, adding that the suspect has been arrested and later released on police bail. The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire, which carries a maximum 14 years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction. Meanwhile, a Perlis Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the blaze damaged about 50 per cent of the building's structure. "Firefighters from the Padang Besar fire and rescue station were dispatched to the scene after we received an emergency call at 8.32am. "They used a 60-metre hose line with two water jets to bring the fire under control by 9.31am. "No injuries were reported, and the operation ended at 9.34am," the spokesman said.

Chinese national detained for allegedly injuring Immigration officer at KLIA
PUTRAJAYA: A Chinese national was arrested after allegedly behaving aggressively and injuring an Immigration counter officer during a departure check at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, yesterday. The incident occurred at 7.40pm when the woman, accompanied by a man and two children, approached the counter for immigration clearance. The officer on duty discovered that they had no records of entry into Malaysia and referred the matter to a supervisor for further verification. The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) said the suspect became agitated when instructed to allow other passengers to proceed while checks were carried out. She reportedly hurled abuse at the officer, pulled at her headscarf, and pushed her head towards a pillar in front of the counter. "A brief scuffle ensued, and the suspect refused to calm down despite repeated instructions. MCBA enforcement officers then called in the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team to diffuse the situation," MCBA said in a statement today. The officer sustained swelling around her left eye, a headache on the right side of her head, and body aches, and was subsequently referred to Cyberjaya Hospital for treatment. A police report has been lodged, and the suspect remains in custody for investigation under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, Section 332 for causing injury to a public servant, and Section 353 for using criminal force to deter a public servant from performing their duty.

RM695,000 lost to online investment scam in Tangkak
TANGKAK: A 60-year-old woman lost RM695,375 after falling victim to an online investment scam that was impersonating a global investment management firm. Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the victim came across the offer on Facebook and contacted the suspect via WhatsApp. She was instructed to download an app via a link sent by the suspect. "Lured by promises of 100% returns, the victim made 16 transfers to four mule accounts between July 2 and Aug 13," he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 14). The victim lodged a police report on Thursday after realising she had been scammed, with the case now being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. – Bernama
