'Eenie Meenie' singer Sean Kingston sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for $1 million fraud scheme
The 35-year-old artist, born Kisean Anderson, was convicted in March alongside his mother, Janice Turner, on multiple counts of fraud.
In July, Turner received a five-year prison sentence and an additional three years of probation. Both were found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud—charges that each carried a potential maximum sentence of 20 years.
Earlier this week, Kingston's legal team pleaded for leniency, requesting home confinement instead of prison time due to the non-violent nature of the offences. They also pointed out that Kingston had repaid the majority of the victims.
Kingston and his mother were arrested in May 2024 following a SWAT raid on his South Florida mansion, prompted by a lawsuit alleging non-payment for luxury goods. Two months later, they were formally indicted by a federal court in Miami.
Prosecutors said the pair defrauded sellers of high-end items, including luxury vehicles, jewellery, and other expensive goods, by using fraudulent documentation. Payments were allegedly made through accounts that never cleared, allowing them to amass more than $1 million in property without proper compensation.
Sean Kingston rose to fame in 2007 with his chart-topping hit 'Beautiful Girls'. Over the years, he has released four albums and collaborated with high-profile artists such as Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, and Chris Brown.
Kingston's sentencing marks a dramatic fall from grace for the pop star, whose music once dominated international charts and airwaves.

Cambridge Dictionary adds 6,000 new words; ‘Skibidi', ‘tradwife', ‘mouse jiggler' on list — how many do you know?
The Cambridge Dictionary has added more than 6,000 new words this year, including 'Skibidi' – one of the popular slang terms used on social media. 'Skibidi' is a gibberish term coined by the creator of an animated YouTube series and can mean 'cool' or 'bad' or be used with no real meaning as a joke. Other popular words added in the world's largest online dictionary, include 'tradwife" - a contraction of 'traditional wife' referring to a married mother who cooks, cleans and posts on social media; "delulu' - a shortening of the word delusional that means 'believing things that are not real or true, usually because you choose to'; and 'mouse jiggler' – a device or piece of software used to make it seem like you are working when you are not. Delulu emerged more than 10 years ago as an insult directed at obsessive K-pop followers to question their belief that they would date their idols. 'Internet culture is changing the English language and the effect is fascinating to observe and capture in the dictionary,' said Colin McIntosh, Lexical Programme Manager at Cambridge Dictionary, reported Associated Press. 'Forever chemical' has also been added to the words list. It means a harmful chemical that remains in the environment for a long time. Other new phrases include "lewk", used to describe a unique fashion look and popularised by RuPaul's Drag Race, and "inspo", short for inspiration. The Cambridge Dictionary uses the Cambridge English Corpus, a database of more than 2 billion words of written and spoken English, to monitor how new words are used by different people, how often and in what contexts they are used, Cambridge University Press said. Thieves steal $2 million jewelry in under 2 minutes in Seattle heist
In a major heist that took place at a jewelry store in US' Seattle, thieves smashed and grabbed about $2 million worth of diamonds, gold, luxury watches and other items in a daring midday robbery that took place in under two minutes, police said on Friday. Videos from the West Seattle store surveillance camera shows four suspects with their masks on, entering the shop after shattering the glass front door with hammers and then ransacking the display cases, while stealing all the available and visible jewelry and other luxury items on Thursday. Some of the expensive items which were stolen by the suspects include Rolex watches worth $750,000 held in one of the displays and another display had an emerald necklace valued at $125,000, police said in a statement.
