Abirami Bhattar, the poet who praised Goddess Sakthi in his Abirami Andadi, describes Her appearance, said M.A. Manickavelu in a discourse. He says the Goddess wears bangles, which are made of conches. These bangles are studded with multi-coloured beads. She is the embodiment of auspiciousness. All the arts were created by Her. There are said to be 64 arts. She is the Mother of all of them. Her speech is an example of how fine, pleasant, meaningful speech itself is an art. She is like a divine peacock. This peacock is the fountainhead of all the fine arts. Bhattar describes Her as sakalakalaamayil (Abirami, the peacock, who is the repository of all arts). The fine arts are Her feathers. She takes up one half of Lord Siva's body. Abirami Bhattar recalls the descent of the river Ganga to the earth. The river came with full force, with the idea that no one was capable of bearing the impact of her arrival on earth. But Lord Siva trapped her in His locks, thereby saving the earth from the impact. Siva's act of trapping the mighty river also helped curb the pride of Ganga. There was a Tamil poet called Kalamega Pulavar. He was asked to compose a verse with a line in it that spoke of the river Ganga being held in a pot (kutam). Kalamegha Pulavar came up with a verse, which said the river Ganga could not be deterred by the sky, or by hills, or by the earth. But she was caught by Siva in His matted locks. The poet cleverly incorporated the line he was asked to include in the verse. His poem went: sataamakutathile gangai adangum, meaning the Ganga was caught at the top of Siva's sataamakuta (sataa — matted locks; makuta — top of). Remove the letters 'sa-taa-ma.' You are left with kutathile gangai adangum, which means the river Ganga can be contained in a pot.

Clay, Care & Creativity: How Nagpur's Ganesh Idol Workshops Shape Young Minds
1 2 3 4 Nagpur: In Nagpur, the days leading up to Ganesh Chaturthi are not just about shopping for decorations or preparing sweets. Eco-friendly Ganesh idol-making workshops have also become a part of the tradition that has become a defining feature of the season. From small community spaces to huge cultural events, these workshops offer children a chance to slow down, work with their hands, and watch an idea take form before their eyes. "I will make the Ganpati idol which will be installed at our home," is a proud declaration heard at almost every table where little fingers mould natural clay into the shape of the beloved deity. One such workshop was recently organised by the Raisoni Foundation as part of the 7th edition of the Orange City Literature Festival (OCLF). Participants learnt to sculpt idols from eco-friendly materials, guided step-by-step by experienced artists, and carried home their own creations. Similar workshops will follow — like the one by Deendayal Shodh Sansthan Bal Jagat, Laxmi Nagar on August 15, 16, and 17 — along with many others conducted by social clubs across the city. "These workshops give wonderful exposure to children," said artist Nandu Manekar. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Beautiful Female Athletes Right Now "Many of them discover the hidden artist in themselves. The joy and confidence they gain after completing the idol is something they carry forward in life." School teacher Swati Joshi noted, "Concentration is becoming rare among students today. Idol-making requires patience, attention to detail, and persistence — qualities that are naturally ingrained during this process. " Pediatrician Dr Avinash Gawande explained, "For younger children, working with clay boosts sensory and motor skills. For adolescents, the creative process has mental health benefits — it relieves stress, encourages mindfulness, and gives a sense of accomplishment." Some families have made this part of their household tradition. Rashmi Borkar, mother of 10-year-old Riya, said, "We have been installing the idol made by my daughter for the past two years. It's natural, eco-friendly, and gives her a sense of pride and belonging." Vijay Bhagat, whose teenage son participates annually, shared, "When the idol is made by them, the festival becomes deeply personal, and the eco-friendly immersion feels like a meaningful conclusion." Upcoming workshops Aug 15 (12noon): Bal Jagat, Laxmi Nagar Aug 16 and 17 (4pm): Bal Jagat, Laxmi Nagar Aug 23 (12.30pm): Symbiosis School of Planning Architecture & Design, Wathoda August 23 (10am): NMC. Did Gisele Bündchen's anti-Donald Trump stance push Tom Brady to snub his White House visit?
Tom Brady's absence from the Patriots' White House visit sparked speculation (Getty Images) Back in April 2017, fresh off another Super Bowl victory, the New England Patriots made their traditional trip to the White House to celebrate with the President. But one notable face was missing from the roster of champions — star quarterback Tom Brady. At the time, his absence stirred curiosity not just because of his NFL stature, but also because of his long-assumed friendship with President Donald Trump. From MAGA hat in the locker room to political distance In 2015, Brady raised eyebrows when reporters spotted a 'Make America Great Again' hat in his locker. He even joked that if Trump won the presidency, he'd like to see 'some new putting green at the White House.' But as the election season intensified, Brady noticeably backed away from political commentary. In October 2016, he abruptly ended a press conference when asked about Trump's infamous 'locker room talk.' So when the Patriots arrived in Washington without him in 2017, Brady explained his absence was due to 'personal family matters.' However, the internet quickly connected dots that suggested there may have been more to the story. Gisele Bündchen's deleted tweet and the political chatter That same day, Brady's wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, tweeted a link promoting the April 29 'March for Climate, Jobs, and Justice' — part of National Geographic's Years of Living Dangerously campaign. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Susan Boyle Is Now so Thin and Looks Beautiful! The event's description took direct aim at the Trump administration's environmental policies, declaring it was time to 'TAKE TO THE STREET. ' Although Bündchen later deleted the tweet, screenshots spread quickly. Fans and political commentators speculated whether her public stance on climate change influenced Brady's decision to skip the visit. This wasn't the first time she'd distanced their family from Trump; on Election Day 2016, she shot down a fan's claim that the couple supported him, bluntly responding, 'NO!' It also foreshadowed the increasing role athletes and their families would play in public political discourse in the years to come. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4.
