Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Goa gave Indian fans a moment to savour amid despair as they qualified for the AFC Champions League 2 group stage on Wednesday.
Indian football is facing some tough times with uncertainty hovering over the upcoming season of the ISL side. The matter could soon reach the Supreme Court. However, the Indian football fans were given a reason to cheer by FC Goa on Wednesday as they defeated Oman's Al Seeb Club in the AFC Champions League 2 preliminary round.

How FC Goa defeated Oman's Al Seeb Club
Dejan Drazic (24') opened the scoring with a sublime chip before Javier Siverio (52') doubled the advantage for Goa. Al Seeb, the 2022 AFC Cup champions, threatened a comeback when Nasser Al-Rawahi (60') pulled one back, but the Gaurs held firm.
FC Goa thus join fellow ISL team Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the continental tournament's group stage. The Mariners had secured a direct berth by clinching the 2024-25 Indian Super League Shield.
More from Football
Al Seeb began on the front foot, forcing early defensive heroics from Pol Moreno in just the second minute, while Zahir Al Aghbari's close-range effort was blocked.
The home side took time to settle and could have broken the deadlock in the ninth minute when Drazic broke free on the left but with only the keeper to beat, the midfielder's soft shot was easily collected by Ahmed Al Rawahi.
Al Rawahi was in the thick of things again for Al Seeb in the 23rd minute when his timely tackle opened up space to set up Abdul Aziz Al Muqbali, whose curling effort was parried away by FC Goa keeper Hrithik Tiwari.
But FC Goa found the net a minute later as Borja Herrera's pinpoint long pass found Drazic on the left, with the midfielder evading Al Rawahi's challenge before delicately chipping the ball over Ahmed Al Khamisi and into the back of the net.
The Indian Super League side stayed on top of things in the second half with Drazic outmuscling the Al Seeb defenders to surge into the box before forcing Al Rawahi to palm away his stinging shot in the 52nd minute.

The momentum saw FC Goa extend their lead moments later when Herrera's cross off a corner floated into the box perfectly for Siverio to rise above Al Rawahi for a headed finish.
Al Seeb reduced the deficit at the hour mark through Nasser Al Rawahi's strike from close range off Ali Al Busaidi's cutback but that was to be it as FC Goa booked their spot in the Group Stage. They will now wait to discover their Group Stage opponents on Friday.

Why does Aakash Chopra think MS Dhoni will not take up Indian Head Coach job in future?

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra predicted that MS Dhoni would not want to become the Head Coach of the Indian side. Chopra reasoned that it might have to do with the non-stop schedule of the Indian side throughout the year and Dhoni would not want to be away from his family. 'That is a big one. I don't think he is interested. Coaching is a difficult job. Coaching keeps you as busy as you were when playing, and sometimes even more than that. You have a family, and you say that you have done the same thing your entire life, you have lived your life out of a suitcase, and you don't want to do that job now,' Chopra said on his YouTube channel. Dhoni, who was stand-in captain in the last IPL season where Chennai Super Kings finished at the bottom of the table for the first time, has admitted that the franchise has holes in the squad which they would try to plug in at the upcoming mini-auctions. With just 4 wins from 14 matches, in the absence of regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, the five-time champions had an underwhelming campaign with Dhoni taking over the captaincy mid-way through the season. Ahead of next season, with most teams already having a settled unit, Chennai do have a tough challenge ahead in terms of building a strong outfit. Dhoni, who turned 44 this July, still remains their frontline keeper with Urvil being the lone other gloveman in the set-up. While Dhoni's future as a player still remains in doubt, the former captain said they are more or less sorted on the batting front. 'There were certain holes that we need to plug in. I think our batting order is quite sorted out now. Rutu (Gaikwad) will be coming back. A small auction is coming in December. You know some holes are there, and we will try to plug those in. But again, you have to be at your best at the start of the tournament. You have to get the planning right. You have to use the resources in the best possible manner. Even the fans feel disappointed, but also the fact is the players always feel more disappointed than the fans. So we do talk about the processes. But at the same time here. We do want the result to come to our side. Last year wasn't there. But looking ahead we will try to sort out most of the things. And we will hopefully be at our best,' Dhoni said at the launch of Maxvision Eye Super Speciality hospital in Chennai. Dhoni, who led the franchise to five IPL titles as captain, revealed that the franchise hasn't been up to the mark in the last two seasons. 'The beauty of sport is how good you look on paper doesn't matter. Because what you actually do on the field is the stuff that really matters. And in a tournament like IPL, what you do consistently over a period of time matters. And then pull your socks up once you get into the knockout stage and come out with another beautiful maybe two or three performances. And that's how you win trophies. The last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not, you can say, up to the mark. Whatever the reasons may be. What is important is to see the learnings. It's not about what you have done in the past 15-16 years. Next year when you turn up again, you have to start from scratch,' Dhoni said.

'Exactly the kind of team...': Star player highlights the new exciting identity of Team India in absence of Kohli and Rohit, his name is... New Delhi: The five-match Test series played in England ended in a 2-2 draw. This series was not only a true test of cricketing skills but also of the passion and patience of the Indian players. Every match went on till the last moment, and Team India proved its strength even in difficult situations. New captain Shubman Gill and young team This series was the first challenge for new captain Shubman Gill. In the absence of veterans like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin, the team was relatively young and inexperienced, especially in English conditions. Despite this, the players performed brilliantly on their respective occasions and strengthened the team. Washington Sundar's revelation – dressing room atmosphere All-rounder Washington Sundar said in an interview that the youth of the entire team created a wonderful atmosphere in the dressing room. He said, 'The dressing room and atmosphere of the entire team were great, we were all young and that was the most exciting thing.' This positivity kept motivating the players to win at the Oval on the last day. Great comeback after tough defeats Even after the tough defeats at Edgbaston and Lord's, Team India made a great comeback under Gill's captaincy. It was not easy to level the series by registering two brilliant wins. Sundar said that many players came forward on different occasions and showed the team the way to victory. Step towards a new era Overall, this young Indian team under the captaincy of Shubman Gill can call its first overseas tour a success. The relationships and mutual coordination built in this series can become the key to both the team's consistency and victory in the times to come. This is the beginning of a new era, where a new identity is expected to be created in red-ball cricket.
