Lucknow Super Giants will go up against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a must-win contest as they look to keep slim hopes of qualifying for the IPL 2025 Playoffs alive in match no. 61 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Monday. Last year's finalists SRH are already out of the playoff race and will now be playing for pride.
Rishabh Pant's LSG still have a mathematical chance of making the top four — but it's a tricky road ahead of them. They must win their remaining three matches in emphatic fashion to reach 16 points, and even then, their poor net run rate of -0.469 means qualification is highly unlikely unless they deliver absolute dominance.
For SRH, the remaining games offer a chance for some underperforming players to regain form and rhythm after a campaign riddled with inconsistency. Youngsters like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ishan Kishan will look to get valuable runs under their belt ahead of India A's upcoming tour of England.
The bigger spotlight, however, is on skipper Rishabh Pant, whose form has dramatically dipped since becoming the most expensive player in IPL auction history at Rs 27 crore. With just 128 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate below 100 and a dismal average of 12.80, Pant has endured a nightmare season. But with his name being discussed for India's Test vice-captaincy, even a few impactful knocks in the IPL could help his case. A timely break may have allowed the bulky wicketkeeper-batter from Roorkee to reset and reassess his game.
For LSG, Nicholas Pooran (410 runs) remains the key figure in their batting lineup, but his form has cooled off after a strong start. They'll be hoping he rediscovers his touch as they enter a must-win phase. The inclusion of New Zealand pacer William O'Rourke, replacing the injured Mayank Yadav, is a boost for their pace attack, especially with Yadav ruled out for the rest of the season.
At the top, LSG will once again rely on Aiden Markram (348 runs) and Mitchell Marsh (378) to provide a solid platform. But the middle order has been inconsistent. Barring Ayush Badoni (326), others like David Miller (160 runs) have failed to deliver, particularly in the death overs.
