Harry Potter series casts Hermione, Ron and Harry
A casting call, announced in September, saw around 32,000 children audition for the lead roles, with the team reviewing up to 1,000 tapes per day, according to HBO.
Dominic McLaughlin will play brave Harry, Arabella Stanton will be the clever Hermione, and Alastair Stout will portray clumsy Ron, the TV company and Warner Bros said.
It was previously stipulated that the three young child actors must be residents of the UK or Ireland, and aged between nine and 11 on April 2025.
The three children are 'newcomers', according to HBO, while Arabella's agent says in her acting CV that she is based in London.
She has been in musical productions including Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express as the narrator Control and the Royal Shakespeare Company's Matilda The Musical in the title child prodigy role.
Alastair's Manchester-based agent, Urban Talent Youth, has listed him as appearing in Albert Bartlett's Jersey Royal potato advertising campaign and having a 'northern' accent.
Production company SC Films confirmed that Dominic recently filmed the Sky family comedy film Grow, starring Hot Fuzz actor Nick Frost, who has been cast as the friendly groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid, and in December last year upcoming adventure series Gifted revealed he was among the Scottish children cast for the BBC Edinburgh-based show.
Dominic also appeared in a production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh, opposite three-time Oscar-nominated actor Ralph Fiennes and Luther actress Indira Varma.
Each season of the show will be a faithful adaptation of the Harry Potter books, from author and executive producer JK Rowling.
The novels had already been made into movies with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint playing the trio.
Executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod said: 'After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron.
'The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.
'We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.'
Several other roles have already been cast for the upcoming show, including British actor Paapa Essiedu and US star John Lithgow as the cruel Professor Severus Snape, and Hogwarts headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore, respectively.
Also joining is Ozark actor Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall, British stage actor Luke Thallon as the first book's main antagonist Quirinus Quirrell, and Welsh comedian and actor Paul Whitehouse as the magic-less Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry caretaker Argus Filch.
The eight movies had seen Dumbledore portrayed by Irish actors Richard Harris and Sir Michael Gambon, while Snape was played by Alan Rickman, Robbie Coltrane played Hagrid, and Dame Maggie Smith played McGonagall.
Urban Talent Youth wrote on Instagram that they 'couldn't be prouder' of Alastair.
The agency added: 'It's safe to say his dedication, impeccable humour and natural talent will win the hearts of many.'
The Performance Academy (TPA) Scotland also congratulated Dominic, saying on Facebook: 'We are not sure that this will ever feel real but we said from the start that Dominic was the perfect Harry and we are thrilled for everyone else to see this soon too.
'Dominic, we will forever be proud of you! We have had an incredible journey with you these last five years at TPA and can't wait for what's next on this journey.'
Production will begin at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in summer 2025.

Harry Potter reboot risks fan backlash over 'unexpected filming location'
Filming for the new Harry Potter reboot, which is being adapted for the small screen, is said to be underway, after the three main actors were announced last week Harry Potter reboot is said to be risking backlash from fans as the show films scenes in an "unexpected location". The HBO TV reboot is due to start filming in the Île de Sein off Brittany, despite the story being set in Britain. Producers have reportedly chosen the French location to set scenes for the hit where Hagrid appears to announce: "You're a wizard, Harry." However, the books detail that the hut is located on an island off Cornwall and not France. But, bosses are said to have chosen the different location to portray the iconic scene. However, it's been reported that some of the crew have found the choice amusing as they could've found a suitable place closer to home. The Sun reported that a TV insider said: "This caused a certain amount of amusement among the British crew who all agreed that they could have easily got windswept in virtually any part of the British Isles. They've been slightly bewildered by the fact they've actually gone to France to make a show which is so British — particularly since it's the first place they've gone to and they're doing key scenes there. "For fans it's likely to be a sign that with American producers running the show, it might not be as mindful of Harry Potter as a national treasure that shouldn't be tampered with." Around 30 people are said to be at Pointe du Raz on the west coast of Brittany and have been travelling by boat to the island each day. It's thought that there is a supposedly haunted 19th century lighthouse on the island which might be used as the hut in the TV series. The iconic Harry Potter franchise films were all made in the studio or on location in Britain. Locations such as London, Bath, Durham and the Scottish Highlands were used as filming locations. Warner Bros has invested millions in expanding its studio at Leavesden, near Watford for the filming on the TV reboot. This comes after it was announced last week which actors would be taking on the main three roles in the show - Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin would be taking on the lead role previously played in the movies by Daniel Radcliffe. He will be working alongside fellow rising stars Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Hagrid, which was previously played by late actor Robbie Coltrane, will now be taken over by Nick Frost instead. Albus Dumbledore will be played by actor John Lithgow will be the wizard school's headmaster Albus Dumbledore and Paul Whitehouse will appear as Hogwarts' caretaker Argus Filch.

Irvine Welsh documentary to close Edinburgh International Film Festival
Irvine Welsh documentary to close Edinburgh International Film Festival The festival runs from August 14 to 20 Irvine Welsh on the set of the film Trainspotting 2 in Edinburgh in 2016 (Image: PA Archive/PA Images ) Organisers of the Edinburgh International Film Festival have announced a documentary about Irvine Welsh will be screened on the final night. The festival runs from August 14 to 20, closing with the world premiere of Paul Sng's immersive documentary Reality Is Not Enough. The documentary is said to be a thrilling and revealing exploration of Trainspotting author Welsh, following his huge success with several film adaptations and six million books sold worldwide, and his awareness of mortality. It sees Welsh, who stars in the film, take a wild journey that explores the boundaries of consciousness. The autobiographical film combines intimate observational footage, rare archive film clips and readings from his novels narrated by screen stars Liam Neeson, Maxine Peake, Ruth Negga and Stephen Graham, and musician Nick Cave. Reality Is Not Enough was co-financed and produced by Edinburgh-based production company LS Films, with the support of Screen Scotland and with Sarah Drummond as executive producer. Paul Ridd, chief executive and director of the film festival, said: "We were so impressed by this brilliantly immersive and fascinating documentary about iconic Scottish writer Irvine Welsh. "Director Paul Sng's refreshingly unusual and highly cinematic approach perfectly fits his subject – a man who has spent an entire career refusing to be pinned down, always surprising us with works of profound impact, rawness and grace. "We could not think of a better way to round off our festival than with this terrific film." Sng said: "I'm completely delighted that Reality Is Not Enough has been chosen to close this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival. "When I read Trainspotting as a teenager in London back in the 90s, I had no idea I would one day live in the city where the book is set, let alone make a film with its author Irvine Welsh. "Having our world premiere in our home city is a huge honour and we're looking forward immensely to sharing the film with the EIFF audience." Drummond said: "I grew up in north Edinburgh during the era that shaped so much of Irvine's writing, so helping bring this intimate portrait of the man behind the books to the screen has been something truly special. Article continues below "Reality Is Not Enough is raw and unexpectedly tender, and it's been a privilege to make it here in the city that connects us both."
