Saudi Arabia showcases work safety initiatives at Osaka Expo 2025
The Kingdom's National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, under the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, and led by Secretary-General Majed Al-Fawiz, is participating in the Global Initiative for Safety, Health, and Well-being Conference.
The delegation at the event includes representatives from the Ministry of Energy and the private sector.
This participation is a part of the Kingdom's broader efforts to highlight its advancements in occupational safety, health, and employee well-being under Vision 2030.
Saudi Arabia has an exhibition highlighting key programs, including cutting-edge technologies to improve work environments, training initiatives and incident reporting.
The council emphasized the Kingdom's commitment to global collaboration, knowledge exchange, and leadership in building safe, healthy, and sustainable workplaces.

Health Minister and Chairman of the Health Holding Company Board of Directors, Fahad AlJalajel, recently conducted an inspection tour of key health projects at King Salman bin Abdulaziz Medical City in Madinah. These initiatives, led by the Madinah Health Cluster, aim to elevate healthcare quality and accessibility in line with the Health Sector Transformation Program and the broader goals of Saudi Vision 2030. Specialized Women's Health Center AlJalajel visited the placenta previa treatment center—part of the women's health track under the Saudi Model of Care. The center supports cesarean deliveries conducted in the interventional radiology department and offers uterine artery embolization procedures, which help reduce complications and improve safety for both mothers and newborns. The minister reviewed enhancements at the emergency departments of both the main hospital and the Maternity and Children's Hospital. Key improvements include: A 101-bed capacity upgrade A new 12-bed rapid triage area A fully activated case management system Expanded waiting areas These upgrades are designed to enhance patient flow, boost readiness, and improve overall care quality. A major stop on the tour was the newly expanded interventional radiology department, which now includes two cutting-edge devices. This 200% increase in capacity is expected to significantly improve diagnostic precision, treatment efficiency, and reduce the need for surgical interventions. Technology-Driven Prevention, Treatment AlJalajel also inspected the diabetic foot treatment center, which offers integrated preventive and therapeutic services. The center uses advanced technologies to manage complications and improve the quality of life for diabetic patients. The tour included a visit to the newly opened hemodialysis center, developed in partnership with the Abdullah Alrajhi Foundation. The facility is equipped with 10 beds, including isolation and respiratory rooms, and built to top-tier medical standards. To strengthen emergency response infrastructure, the minister reviewed the implementation of phase two of the air evacuation landing strips initiative. Finally, this phase adds seven new landing pads at King Salman Medical City, Al-Haram Hospital, and other regional hospitals—bringing the total to 15 helipads across the Madinah Health Cluster. Pakistan confirms 18th polio case of 2025 amid low vaccine uptake in high-risk areas
PESHAWAR: Pakistan reported its 18th polio case this year after a 10-month-old boy tested positive for the virus in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to an official statement on Friday, raising renewed concerns over persistent transmission in areas with low vaccine uptake. The latest infection, confirmed by the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health, marks the 11th case in the province, long identified as a high-risk zone for poliovirus transmission due to insecurity, vaccine hesitancy and operational challenges. 'A 10-month-old boy from Union Council Mullazai in District Tank, South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been confirmed as the eleventh polio case ... this year, bringing the total number of polio cases in Pakistan in 2025 to eighteen,' the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) said in a statement. 'The continued detection of polio cases underscores the persistent threat to children, particularly in areas with low vaccine acceptance,' it added. 'It is crucial for communities to understand that poliovirus can re-emerge wherever immunity gaps persist.' Polio is a highly contagious and incurable disease that can cause lifelong paralysis. Health experts stress that the only effective protection is through repeated oral polio vaccine (OPV) doses for every child under five during each campaign, along with the timely completion of routine immunizations. While Pakistan's polio program has carried out six vaccination campaigns since September 2024, thousands of children in South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain unreached due to limited access and logistical barriers in conducting house-to-house immunizations. The NEOC said two more nationwide and one sub-national campaign are planned between August and December, alongside targeted drives in high-risk districts to stop virus transmission. Health authorities have also urged parents and caregivers to ensure their children receive every dose, and called on communities to support frontline workers, combat misinformation, and encourage vaccination as a collective responsibility.
