Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Israel will "take control" of the whole of Gaza, as the military pressed a newly intensified campaign in the war-ravaged territory.After Israel announced it would let a "basic amount" of food into the Gaza Strip , Netanyahu said it was necessary to prevent a famine for "diplomatic reasons".In Gaza, rescuers said air strikes killed at least 22 people, after the military announced it had begun "extensive ground operations" against Hamas."The fighting is intense and we are making progress. We will take control of all the territory of the Strip," Netanyahu said in a video posted on Telegram."We will not give up. But in order to succeed, we must act in a way that cannot be stopped."Israel has come under mounting international pressure, including from key backer the United States, to lift a total blockade it imposed on Gaza more than two months ago."We must not let the population (of Gaza) sink into famine, both for practical and diplomatic reasons," Netanyahu said, adding that even friends of Israel would not tolerate "images of mass starvation".In a report this month, the UN- and NGO-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification said Gaza was at "critical risk of famine", with 22 percent of the population facing an imminent humanitarian "catastrophe".Israel said its blockade since March 2 was aimed at forcing concessions from the Palestinian militant group, but UN agencies have warned of critical shortages of food, clean water, fuel and medicines.Last week US President Donald Trump acknowledged that "a lot of people are starving", adding "we're going to get that taken care of".In his inaugural mass, Pope Leo XIV called on the faithful not to forget "our brothers and sisters who are suffering because of war."In Gaza, the surviving children, families and elderly are reduced to starvation," he said.But Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir argued against any resumption of aid, saying on X: "Mr Prime Minister, our hostages receive no humanitarian aid.""The Prime Minister is making a serious mistake in this move, and he has no majority at all. Hamas must only be crushed, and not at the same time provided with oxygen for its survival," he said in a statement.Israel's military on Monday said the air force had struck "160 terror targets" in Gaza over the past day, as it pressed an expanded offensive.The campaign, which Israel says aims to free hostages and defeat Hamas, started Saturday as the two sides entered indirect talks in Qatar on a deal.Netanyahu's office said negotiators Doha were "working to exhaust every possibility for a deal -- whether according to the Witkoff framework or as part of ending the fighting".Steve Witkoff is the US Middle East envoy who has been involved in discussions.Netanyahu's statement said a deal "would include the release of all the hostages, the exile of Hamas terrorists, and the disarmament of the Gaza Strip".Since a two-month ceasefire collapsed in March as Israel resumed its offensive, negotiations mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the United States have failed to make a breakthrough.Netanyahu has opposed ending the war without Hamas's total defeat, while Hamas has balked at handing over its weapons.On Monday, there were heavy strikes in and around the main southern city of Khan Yunis, where civil defence agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal said 11 people were killed and several others wounded.Bassal also reported another 11 deaths in strikes on other parts of the territory.AFPTV footage from Gaza on Sunday showed people sifting through ruined shelters and rescuers treating the wounded."All my family members are gone. There is no one left," said a distraught Warda al-Shaer."The children were killed as well as their parents. My mother died too, and my niece lost her eye."The United Nations had warned of the risk of famine in Gaza before the aid blockade was imposed.Hamas's October 2023 attack that triggered the war resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official figures.Hamas also took 251 hostages during the attack, 57 of whom remain in Gaza, including 34 the military says are dead.Gaza's health ministry said Sunday at least 3,193 people have been killed since Israel resumed strikes on March 18, taking the war's overall toll to 53,339.

Emergency crews, municipal workers and volunteers worked through the night to extinguish fires, rescue residents from burning homes, and restore gas, electricity and water service. The strikes also caused widespread destruction in the Slobidskyi and Osnovianskyi districts, hitting apartment buildings, private homes, playgrounds, industrial sites and public transport. Images from the scene published by Ukraine's Emergency Service on Telegram showed burning apartments, shattered windows and firefighters battling the blaze. Kharkiv has been targeted frequently in recent months as Russian launches intense drone and missile attacks on civilian infrastructure. "We stand strong. We help one another. And we will endure," Terekhov said. "Kharkiv is Ukraine. And it cannot be broken."

Challenging times for global trade; India will certainly cross $825 billion exports this fiscal: Piyush Goyal
'The world trade is facing severe geo-political challenges, but India has consistently emerged as a winner in such times, and the country's exports of goods and services will certainly cross $825 billion in 2025-26,' Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said. Despite global economic uncertainties due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Israel-Hamas war and the Red Sea crisis, the country's overall exports touched an all-time high of $825 billion against $778 billion in 2023-24. 'As per estimates of certain multi-lateral bodies, there would be a contraction in global trade,' Mr. Goyal said. "The world is going through severe geo-political challenges… So these are challenging times, but India has always emerged [as] a winner in challenging times and we did a record $825 billion exports in 2024-25. This year, we hope to do much better," he told PTI. When asked if last fiscal's figures will be crossed, he said, "We will certainly be able to cross that". Building capacities: On India and Europe trade talks Apex exporters' body Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has projected that the country's overall goods and services exports are expected to grow by over 21% year-on-year to $1 trillion during 2025-26. FIEO president S.C. Ralhan has said the healthy growth may come on account of international buyers seeking to diversify their sourcing in the wake of global economic uncertainties. In 2025-26, merchandise exports are expected to grow 12% to $525-535 billion from $437 billion in 2024-25, while services exports are likely to rise by about 20% year-on-year to $465-475 billion from $387 billion in the last fiscal, according to FIEO. The major sectors that are expected to show a significant jump in the shipments this fiscal include electronics, engineering, chemicals, textile and clothing, pharma and even the agriculture sector. Free trade agreements (FTAs) with countries such as the UAE, Australia and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will also help boost exports in the coming months. The India-EFTA trade agreement is expected to come into force from October 1 this year. Mr. Goyal also said that FTAs signed during the Congress era were not good and have impacted domestic firms. They signed FTAs with countries like ASEAN, which are India's competitors; besides, they were not balanced, he said, adding that India opened more markets for those countries and "we did not get" good deals in return. On finished goods, he said, India removed the duties but import taxes on raw materials created inverted duty issues and that hurt "us a lot", he said. He added that now the Modi government is doing FTAs with developed countries/regions like Australia, the U.K., EFTA, the E.U., the UAE, Oman, Peru, and Chile. "Here we collaborate, there is no we are doing FTAs with well thought out strategies," Mr. Goyal said. India-EFTA signed the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) on March 10, 2024. Under the pact, India has received an investment commitment of $100 billion in 15 years from the grouping while allowing several products such as Swiss watches, chocolates, and cut and polished diamonds at lower or zero duties. When asked if India would have to ease certain regulations to attract this investment, Mr. Goyal said it has been a commitment based on today's situation. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuously focusing on ease of doing business, deregulation, reducing compliance burden, decriminalising the laws, making it attractive to do business in India," he said, adding that " I think this $100 billion will be exceeded and come faster".
