Mangani Lal Mandal set to become RJD state president

Time of Indiaa day ago

Patna: Former JD(U) national vice-president Mangani Lal Mandal is set to be formally elected as the seventh state president of the
Rashtriya Janata Dal
(RJD) on June 19. He was the sole candidate to file nomination papers for the post on Saturday in the presence of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, former chief minister Rabri Devi, Pataliputra MP Misa Bharti and leader of the opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav.
Mandal, who hails from the Dhanuk caste within the extremely backward classes (EBC), represents a community that constitutes 36% of Bihar's population. His elevation is widely seen as a strategic move by the RJD to consolidate EBC support ahead of the election. He rejoined hands with Lalu only in Jan this year. Mandal will be the first RJD state chief from the EBC community.
RJD national assistant election officer Chittaranjan Gagan said Mandal's nomination papers would be scrutinised on Sunday.
Tejashwi said Mandal had long been associated with his father, Lalu Prasad. "We are all happy that today Mangani Lal Mandal has filed his nomination for the post of state president. As an associate of Karpoori Thakur, he has played an important role in promoting social politics," Tejashwi said.
Mandal had earlier represented Jhanjharpur in the Lok Sabha and has served as a member of both the Rajya Sabha and the Bihar legislative council.

He was also a minister in the RJD-led govt in Bihar. He succeeds Jagadanand Singh, who had asked the party leadership to relieve him from the post citing poor health.
Mandal is expected to help strengthen the RJD's influence in the districts like Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani and Muzaffarpur, areas where the Mahagathbandhan performed poorly in the 2020 assembly elections, winning only 13 out of 41 seats.

Pentagon dismisses 'pizza index' in connection with Israel's attack on Iran, says they have 'sushi, sandwiches, coffee'

Pentagon dismisses pizza index report of June 13 when Israel attacked Iran and said they don't need to order pizza from outside. A Pentagon spokesperson reacted to the Pizza delivery index of June 13 when Israel launched military attacks in Iran and said they do not need to order pizza as there are many pizza options inside Pentagon and also they have sushi, sandwiches, donuts, etc. So, in a bizarre tracking, a surge in pizza orders around the Pentagon was noticed when the attack took place. "Nearly all pizza establishments near the Pentagon have experienced a HUGE surge in activity," the X account of Pentagon Pizza Report said. The account's post included screenshots of Google data showing the popularity of pizza joints in Washington, D.C. Domino's, District Pizza Palace and We, the Pizza were all dramatically above what was typical for that time of the day. The Pentagon Pizza Report also said a gay bar close to the Pentagon had "abnormally low traffic for a Thursday night" as Israeli strikes were underway. How are pizza orders linked to major geopolitical events The Pentagon Pizza Index, also known as the Pentagon Pizza Meter, is a quirky, unofficial theory suggesting that surges in pizza or takeout food orders to government buildings like the Pentagon, White House, or CIA can signal impending major geopolitical events or crises. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo The idea is that when government officials and staff work late into the night on urgent matters—such as military operations, coups, or international conflicts—they order quick, convenient food like pizza to sustain long hours in the office. The concept traces back to the Cold War, when Soviet intelligence reportedly monitored food delivery patterns to U.S. government buildings as a form of open-source intelligence (OSINT), dubbed 'Pizzint' (Pizza Intelligence). According to The Guardian, deliveries of pizzas to the Pentagon doubled immediately before the 1989 US invasion of Panama and the 1991 Kuwait liberation campaign called Operation Desert Storm. The Takeout, a food and culture site, reported in January that while there are a number of eateries in the Pentagon—where almost 30,000 people work each day, according to Arlington National Cemetery Tours—it doesn't have its own pizzeria. Pentagon dismissed the spike reported this time and said they have plenty of pizza options inside and the timeline set out by the Pentagon Pizza Report did not align with the events, Newsweek reported.

Stay connected with grassroots workers: Union min Yadav advises MP BJP leaders

Bhopal: Union minister Bhupender Yadav has advised BJP MPs and MLAs to speak less to avoid controversies. During the second day of the BJP MPs and MLAs training camp in Pachmarhi, the Union minister for environment and forests emphasised that it is not necessary to react to every event. He also advised the party leaders to stay connected with the party workers at grassroots level. Yadav advised the 201 trainees at the camp to speak less, hinting at the controversy following minister for tribal affairs Vijay Shah's May 11 remark on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, which dented the party's image after Operation Sindoor. Bhupender Yadav stated that sometimes it is better politics to remain calm and avoid giving statements. "It is better to remain silent. Giving a reaction to every incident can prove damaging. About 90% of damage in politics happens because of giving excessive reactions," Yadav added. Union minister Amit Shah, while inaugurating the three-day training camp on Saturday, also cautioned against repeating the mistake made by Vijay Shah. The Union home minister advised people's representatives and functionaries of BJP to think before speaking. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo In another session, state BJP in-charge Dr Mahendra Singh advised MPs and MLAs not to ignore party workers. Party MLAs were given guidelines on the management of their assembly seats. During discussions on each of the assembly segments, the gathering was specifically told not to underestimate or neglect the ground workers of the party. Dr Mahendra Singh categorically mentioned that workers make MPs and MLAs, and it is on their hard work that govts are formed, so they should not feel mistreated or ignored. BJP legislators and Parliamentarians from the state were reminded that eight generations of BJP workers struggled to take the party to where it is today. The struggle through the decades from Jan Sangh to BJP is the reason behind them receiving respect as MLAs and MPs. Although the next assembly election is in 2028, discussions were held as though the polls are just around the corner. Sources indicated that deliberations focused on the 82 scheduled caste and scheduled tribe reserved seats in the state. The state has 47 tribal reserved seats and 35 scheduled caste reserved seats, of which 50 are currently with the BJP. Guidelines were provided on how to retain the BJP's vote bank in these assembly seats. BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde conducted a special session on social media, advising trainees not to share or post sensitive and controversial material that could harm the party's image. Speaking to reporters, Minister for Renewable Energy Rakesh Shukla said, "Everyone is getting a lot to learn, as there is new technology these days. We are being given detailed information about how we are to use technology. For the last two days, we have been given guidelines. A lot of useful deliberations." Party MLA from Suwasra assembly seat, Hardeep Singh Dang, commented, "Here in the training session, all are the same. No one is a big leader here; all are being trained. Despite being in power and winning the elections, there are still some shortcomings. How can we improve ourselves? The more we improve ourselves, the more we shine. These sessions are for our improvement; it is a lifetime experience."
