Fiorentina confirm Gudmundsson fracture and new Colpani injury
Fiorentina have announced that Albert Gudmundsson was diagnosed with a fracture in his back, while Andrea Colpani suffered an injury relapse.
The Viola are still feeling the effects of the surprise 2-0 home defeat to Como in Serie A on Sunday afternoon.
Gudmundsson had been introduced as a substitute coming on at the 55th minute, but was forced off the field again just 19 minutes later following a knock to the back.
The former Genoa man went for X-Rays that confirmed it was more than a mere bruise, because he has been diagnosed with a fracture where the sacrum meets the coccyx.
Because this is a complicated situation, the formal Fiorentina statement notes that Gudmundsson will be evaluated over the next few days by specialists.
Meanwhile, Colpani also went off injured during that home defeat to Como and the rest results showed bruising to the top of the right foot.
This is the same spot that had forced him onto the treatment table three weeks ago, so the former Monza player will rest for a few days before resuming individual training routines and working his way back to full fitness.
Both are out of the trip to Verona, along with suspended Robin Gosens.

Why Igor Tudor Will Coach Juventus At Club World Cup And Into 2025/26
Igor Tudor made a big impact at Juventus after replacing Thiago Motta (Photo by MARCO BERTORELLO / ... More AFP) (Photo by MARCO BERTORELLO/AFP via Getty Images) Speaking at his inaugural press conference after taking over as General Manager of Juventus, Damien Comoli has confirmed that Igor Tudor will remain as the club's Head Coach. The Bianconeri had already announced Comoli's arrival – an appointment discussed in this previous column – and knowing that he would be asked about the future of the side, the former Tottenham executive addressed it head on. 'I would like to clarify a few points before taking questions,' Comoli told reporters at his first press conference. 'Igor Tudor will be our Coach for next season and not just for the Club World Cup. He will lead the first team for the 2025/2026 season and, I hope, beyond that. 'I remember it perfectly when I met him in Ligue 1. Even then, I was impressed by the intensity he brought to his Marseille side. He did an extraordinary job there, but I repeat that what struck me most was the resilience of his team, the physical and mental strength of those players.' The reason Tudor had become such a hot topic was the constant speculation that he would be replaced. As last season came to a close, Juventus had been strongly linked with approaches for Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Gasperini but ultimately those rumours came to nothing. Those same reports – including this one from the Corriere della Sera – also insisted that Juve had made contact with Stefano Pioli and Fulham boss Marco Silva, but again with no tangible progress. Whatever the truth behind those rumours, the Turin giants will now go into the 2025/26 campaign with Tudor at the helm and he will also be in charge for the FIFA Club World Cup which kicks off later this month. When he arrived back in March to replace Thiago Motta, Tudor was initially only in charge on an interim basis, but his deal automatically extended until June 2026 when UEFA Champions League qualification was achieved. There was a clause that gave Juve an option to terminate the agreement for a cost of €1 million ($1.14 million) this summer, but now it seems the Coach will do so with a new, improved contract. According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Tudor's agent Anthony Seric will be in Turin later this week to finalise terms on an extension that will run until the summer of 2027. This would bring a far greater sense of stability to the club, as currently they would go into the 2025/26 campaign with the Coach already in the final year of his contract. Instead, with a two-year deal in place, Tudor would have more authority to shape the squad in the manner he needs to. Comoli was inevitably also asked how he would support the Coach with changes in the transfer market, but – other than confirming Randal Kolo Muani would play for Juve in the Club World Cup – he refused to give any details. 'I'm very open, but there is one thing I'm not open about, and it's transfers,' Comoli said at his press conference. 'I tend to be more reserved on this. 'We discussed with the coach, Giorgio [Chiellini] and Maurizio [Scanavino, club CEO]. We have an idea; we are considering Igor's approach. What I can say is that surely adjustments need to be made, but not radical changes.' Using the boss' tactical framework to inform their choices can only benefit the team and their prospects of silverware next term. Igor Tudor is here to stay, now Juventus need to rediscover their identity and challenge for honours if his time at the helm is to ultimately be successful.

Report – Outgoing Inter Milan Veteran Striker Prefers Serie A Stay Over Foreign Move
Departing Inter Milan veteran Marko Arnautovic is reportedly keen to stay in Serie A beyond the summer. Per La Stampa via FCInter1908, the 36-year-old has no intention of leaving Italy's top flight. Indeed, he first joined the club on a season-long loan from Bologna. Advertisement However, he signed a permanent contract the following year. Arnautovic's deal will expire at the end of June, with Inter unwilling to offer him fresh terms. (Photo by) The Austrian star will become a free agent in less than a month. Meanwhile, his chances of staying in Serie A look bleak after he turned down a move to Torino last January. Indeed, the Granata tried to sign him as a short-term replacement for the injured Duvan Zapata. Yet, he refused a switch to Turin to stay at San Siro. Marco Baroni's appointment at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino could see the Granata reignite their interest in the veteran striker. In addition to Torino, Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce could offer Arnautovic a contract this summer.

Vieri: ‘Inzaghi did phenomenal job at Inter, we'll see with Chivu'
Christian Vieri insists Simone Inzaghi did 'a phenomenal job' as Inter coach for four years on a minimal budget, so he is keeping an open mind on new boss Cristian Chivu. Former Italy, Inter, Juventus, Milan and Atletico Madrid striker Vieri sat down with the Italian Football Podcast to discuss the current trends and you can read the rest of his comments here. Advertisement The Nerazzurri ended the season empty-handed and the pain of that 5-0 Champions League Final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain prompted Inzaghi to walk away, starting a new adventure as the manager of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. 'I think it was because of the result of 5-0 [that Inzaghi left Inter Milan]. I didn't think that he was going to leave,' insisted Vieri 'After losing 5-0 I think he said to himself 'you know what? I have no more energy. After losing 5-0 it took all my energy away.' It's one thing to lose 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1, you're in the game, it's ok. But 5-0 is a heavy way to lose. I think it just took all his energy away. 'Him and the club spoke and said 'what should we do?' And from what I heard they spoke in an easy way.' Vieri stands by Inzaghi record at Inter MUNICH, GERMANY – MAY 30: Simone Inzaghi, Head Coach of FC Internazionale, gives instructions to the players during a FC Internazionale training session ahead of the UEFA Champions League Final 2025 between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Internazionale Milano at Munich Football Arena on May 30, 2025 in Munich, Germany. (Photo by) This ending to the adventure has prompted some to re-evaluate what Inzaghi did at Inter, especially considering he only managed to win one Serie A title in those four years. Advertisement However, Vieri is confident that Inzaghi will be remembered fondly by the fans and players. 'I think he has done an amazing job in the last four years. Two times in three years playing in the Final of the Champions League, with the budget that Inter spends. Inter isn't like Real Madrid, PSG, Barcelona, Manchester City or Bayern. They can spend all the money they want. 'We have to look at €5m here or the €2m here. So I think they did a phenomenal job.' There had been some doubts as to whether the coach would accept the proposal from Al-Hilal, which is reported to be worth €30m per season including add-ons and bonuses. Advertisement It was not until after the 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain that the decision was ultimately made. 'I think the result was very heavy for Simone. In the end I think he just said 'I'm gonna go away, I don't have any more energy to start the season again,' stated Vieri. 'I think that is why he went away, and I am sorry that he went away. I don't like changing coaches. In fact I think that if a club wants to win, you need time. Even if there is no time for anyone, that is how football is now. Clubs change coaches three-four times every year. They go berserk everyone. 'But I think to win and to get the players comfortable, that takes years. So, I am sad that he left. I think he did an amazing job.' RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA – JANUARY 06: Former FC Internazionale player Christian Vieri looks on prior to the Italian Super Cup Final between FC Internazionale and AC Milan at Kingdom Arena on January 06, 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. (Photo by) Although he has played for numerous clubs in his career, Vieri still identifies with Inter. Advertisement 'We won a Scudetto. We could have won this year, a second Scudetto. I think we deserved to win but we missed something. But we played two Champions League finals in three years is amazing for Inter.' Now former Inter player Chivu has been given the job, starting at the Club World Cup in the USA, after just a few months in charge of Parma. Vieri is somewhat unconvinced that the ex-defender who was part of the Treble-winning squad in 2010 can make the difference. 'A very, very young coach. Never coached in the Serie A before, only this year in Parma for a couple of months. I think the team is still very strong. Let's see what he can do. He is young. He is going to have his ideas. Let's see what happens.'
