
Rapha names new chief brand officer
British cycling apparel brand Rapha announced on Monday the appointment of Jodie Harrison to the role of chief brand officer, a newly created role reporting to CEO, Fran Millar.
Harrison has been consulting across brand strategy for Rapha since January, and will now work with the Rapha leadership team to oversee the end-to-end recalibration of its brand position, according to a press release.
The executive joins from Belstaff, where both Millar and Harrison worked together to transform the British fashion brand's position and performance.
Harrison cut her brand-building teeth in the magazine industry at GQ. After seven years, she joined Mr. Porter, as its founding editorial director. In 2017, she became Soho House's creative and content director, followed by time in the U.S. at Anthropologie and online fashion website, Moda Operandi. After returning to lead the Soho House membership strategy, Harrison founded her own brand consultancy, Fell & Scar, and then was poached by Millar to join Belstaff.
'Rapha was built on originality and courage, which Jodie brings to everything she does. I'm delighted she will lead the focus on inspiring new and future fans in this next chapter for the brand," said Millar, who was appointed CEO of Rapha in September.
Founded in 2004, Rapha is a performance cycling apparel brand with a history of material and functional innovation. Since its inception, the brand has forged collaborations with Palace and Patta expanding its reach beyond traditional sports enthousiasts.
'At 21 years young, Rapha has already achieved an enviable and established heritage. It's a brand's brand - recognised globally and genuinely loved - so shepherding it into a new era comes with great responsibility. This is not something I take lightly - there's a lot of careful work to do,' said Harrison.

COS artwork project elevates London, Paris and Helsinki stores
H&M Group's London-based COS brand has launched a collaboration with another London-based business, interior design specialist Studio Ashby under founder and creative director Sophie Ashby, to unveil a curated selection of artworks by mainly British women artists. Displayed in 'reimagined store environments' on the city's Regent Street, as well as Rue Tronchet in Paris and a recently opened location on Aleksanterinkatu in Helsinki, it 'reinforces the brand's deep-rooted connection to modern culture – a consistent source of inspiration,' we're told. Each artwork has been 'thoughtfully integrated into the store interiors, creating warm and immersive environments where fashion, art and culture intersect'. They'll remain part of the COS collection longer term and are designed to 'serve as a synergic backdrop to COS' collections'. While most of the artists chosen are British, in the London flagship, Finnish artist Milla Vaahtera has been chosen for a lighting installation that 'fuses bold glass forms with delicate brass, reinterpreting heritage craft techniques with a modern sensibility". In Paris, a painting by British artist Alice Neave 'explores materiality, colour and texture, joined by the artwork of South African artist Erin Chaplin, examining the relationship between the natural and artificial'. And the Helsinki store features a woven piece by British artist Dalia James, 'exploring the dynamic interplay of colour and geometry, alongside an evocative oil painting by British artist Anna Ilsley, highlighting the complexities of motherhood'. COS also said the spaces have been 'elevated by carefully chosen materials — from bespoke micro-paper and plywood tables handmade by Paper Factor to Kasthall's hand-tufted wool rugs, made to order using surplus production yarn'. The details see the retailer experimenting with colour and texture. It's part of an ongoing process that has seen H&M Group elevating COS, enhancing its overall desirability and making it stand out. That has included it launching its first perfume collection earlier this year and also recent runway initiatives such as last autumn's New York Fashion Week show. COS has become an in-demand affordable-premium label and has featured in the usually-luxury-focused Lyst Index in recent quarters. It comes in a market that's increasingly embracing premium brands as consumers rethink their addiction to fast-fashion due to its sustainability impact and also their love of luxury as prices go through the roof.

US-China trade talks on export controls to resume for a second day
Top U.S. and Chinese officials will resume trade talks for a second day in London on Tuesday, hoping to secure a breakthrough over export controls for rare earths and other goods that have threatened a fresh rupture between the two superpowers. Investors are hoping for an improvement in ties after the relief sparked by a preliminary deal agreed in Geneva last month gave way to fresh doubts after Washington accused Beijing of blocking exports that are critical to sectors including autos, aerospace, semiconductors and defence. White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said on Monday that the U.S. was likely to agree to lift export controls on some semiconductors in return for China speeding up the delivery of rare earths. U.S. President Donald Trump said the talks were going well: "We're doing well with China. China's not easy." Trump's often erratic policymaking on tariffs has roiled global markets, sparked congestion and confusion in major ports, and cost companies tens of billions of dollars in lost sales and higher costs. The second round of U.S.-China talks, which followed a rare phone call between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping last week, comes at a crucial time for both economies. Customs data published on Monday showed that China's exports to the U.S. plunged 34.5% in May, the sharpest drop since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. While the impact on U.S. inflation and the jobs market has so far been muted, tariffs have hammered U.S. business and household confidence and the dollar remains under pressure. The two sides, led at the talks by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, with the Chinese contingent helmed by Vice Premier He Lifeng, are meeting at the ornate Lancaster House in the British capital. The talks ran for almost seven hours on Monday and are set to resume after 0900 GMT on Tuesday, with both sides expected to issue updates later in the day. The inclusion of Lutnick, whose agency oversees export controls for the U.S., is one indication of how central rare earths have become. He did not attend the Geneva talks, when the countries struck a 90-day deal to roll back some of the triple-digit tariffs they had placed on each other. China holds a near-monopoly on rare earth magnets, a crucial component in electric vehicle motors, and its decision in April to suspend exports of a wide range of critical minerals and magnets upended global supply chains and sparked alarm in boardrooms and factory floors around the world. Kelly Ann Shaw, a former White House trade adviser during Trump's first term and now a trade partner at the Akin Gump law firm in Washington, said she expected China to reaffirm its commitment to lift retaliatory measures, including export restrictions, "plus some concessions on the U.S. side, with respect to export controls measures over the past week or two". But Shaw said she expected the U.S. to only agree to lift some new export curbs, not longstanding ones such as for advanced artificial intelligence chips. In May, the U.S. ordered a halt to shipments of semiconductor design software and chemicals and aviation equipment, revoking export licences that had been previously issued.
