The Chottanikkara police have filed the chargesheet in the case related to the assault and death of a 19-year-old woman at her house in January.
Anoop, 25, of Thalayolaparambu, has been named the sole accused in the chargesheet. He has been charged for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and attempted rape of the woman.
A hammer that was allegedly used to assault the woman and a shawl on which she reportedly hung herself following the alleged assault have been mentioned as crucial pieces of evidence. The probe team had also recovered CCTV footage of the accused arriving at her house, where he was said to have assaulted her. Anoop had reportedly befriended the victim through Instagram.

She said the parcel had arrived but could only be released after paying various charges. The victim transferred Rs 49,59,999 over several weeks to different bank accounts provided by the fraudsters. They asked for money under the pretext of customs duties, foreign exchange fees, and parcel handling charges. A case has been registered under cheating and common intention sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Information Technology Act, the police said. Imphal, June 8 (UNI) Curfew has been imposed and internet service suspended in five districts of Manipur including the state capital for five says after violence erupted on Saturday night. As per a notification posted on Manipur Police website at 6 am on Sunday, N Ashok Kumar Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home). Government of Manipur announced the internet services were being suspended in view of the prevailing law and order situation in Imphal West. Imphal East, Thoubal. Kakching and Bishnupur districts, "..there is apprehension of some anti-social elements using the social media extensively for transmission of images, hate speech and hate video messages, inciting the passions of the public which might have serious repercussions for the law and order situation in the State of Manipur," said the notification. "There is an imminent danger of loss of life and /or damage to public/private property, and widespread disturbances to public tranquillity and communal harmony, as a result of inflammatory material and false rumours," it said. According to the government, such inflammatory materials and false rumours "might be transmitted or circulated to the public through social media/ messaging services on mobile services, SMS services and dongle services." "To thwart the design and activities of anti-national and anti-social elements and to maintain peace and communal harmony and to prevent any loss of life or danger to public/private property, it has become necessary to take adequate measures to maintain law and order in public interest, by stopping the spread of disinformation and false rumours. through various social media platform," said Ashok. Thane, A 46-year-old woman from Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra has allegedly been cheated of ₹49.59 lakh fraudsters, including one posing as a customs officer, under the pretext of sending her a "gift" from abroad, police said on Sunday. The fraud took place between June and August 2024 but came to light after the victim, resident of Airoli in Navi Mumbai, lodged a complaint on Friday at the Rabale police station, an official said. A person claiming to be from the United Kingdom had approached the victim on the Instagram social media app. After establishing a friendly rapport, he promised to send her an expensive gift parcel, the police said. Soon after, a woman contacted the victim, claiming to be a customs officer at Delhi airport. The woman told the victim that the parcel had arrived but could only be cleared after payment of various charges, the official said. The victim transferred ₹49,59,999 over several weeks to multiple bank accounts shared by the accused seeking money under the pretext of customs duties, foreign exchange fees and parcel handling charges, he said. The victim realised she had been conned after the monetary demands escalated and the promised parcel never arrived. Following failed attempts to contact the suspects, she approached the police. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under sections 318 and section 3 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Information Technology Act, the official said. Initial findings suggest both the accused used fake identities. Their real names and addresses were yet to be traced, he said. The case has now been handed over to the cyber cell for further investigation, the official added. The Navi Mumbai police have urged people to be cautious of social media interactions involving gift offers or money transfers. "Verify identities and avoid making payments based on unverifiable claims," the official said.
