Actor Columbus Short and his wife, Aida Abramyan, are embroiled in a nasty he-said, she-said domestic violence legal battle.
After the former Scandal star filed a temporary restraining order against his spouse, a judge granted Abramyan's own request for a temporary restraining order but denied her request for temporary sole custody of their two children.
According to court documents, the entertainment publicist detailed a July 7 incident where Short allegedly was drunk and got physically violent with her while she was doing laundry.
'Don't slam the (expletive) door bitch. Your mouth is gonna get you in trouble! Shut the (expletive) up,' Abramyan claims Short yelled at her before choking her and putting both hands around her neck.
A neighbour reportedly called authorities after hearing her yell: 'My husband is choking me, help!'
Abramyan included photos of injuries from other alleged instances of physical abuse over recent years in her TRO request, including a black eye and bruising, TMZ reports.
In his restraining order petition, the 42-year-old Stomp The Yard alum claimed his estranged spouse busted his eye open and abused a 10-week-old puppy. He also alleged that she was arrested following the altercation. She notes in her filing that police did show up to the residence but doesn't mention any arrest.
Short, who portrayed a crisis management consultant at Olivia Pope's firm on Scandal for three seasons, has endured his own personal crises in recent years due to anger management issues. In 2022, he was arrested for felony domestic violence against his wife.
The couple got married in 2016 and share two young sons.

Jennifer Lopez is 'done' with marriage after 'a few' failures

The Bronx-born pop star, 55, told a crowd at Wednesday's show in Bilbao, Spain that she's hanging up her hopes of happily ever after. Photo: TNS Jennifer Lopez announced she's 'done' with marriage after four divorces, along with a couple broken engagements. The Bronx-born pop star, 55, told a crowd at Wednesday's show in Bilbao, Spain that she's hanging up her hopes of happily ever after, at least one that includes a ring and trip down the aisle, according to fan footage making the rounds. ''J. Lo, marry me?'' the Love Don't Cost A Thing artiste read out a fan's sign. 'I think I'm done with that [laughs]. Yeah, I tried that a few times. Anyway…' J. Lo's remarks follow her latest divorce, from Ben Affleck, which was finalised in January. This time a year ago, the couple — whose early aughts engagement ended without 'I do,' prior to their spring 2021 reconciliation — was at the center of split speculation. Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, on their second wedding anniversary. Lopez and Affleck's second go at a relationship — following the headline sensation known as Bennifer — came on the heels of the former ending her engagement to Alex Rodriguez. The Grammy nominee first exchanged vows with model and waiter Ojani Noa, to whom she was married from early 1997 to June 1998. She then tied the knot with backup dancer Cris Judd in September 2001, filing for divorce the following summer. Lopez and Affleck got engaged in late 2002, before her divorce with Judd was finalised in January 2003. After their very public romance and split, Lopez wed Marc Anthony in June 2004, divorcing a decade later. Singer Olivia Rodrigo pays for crew's therapy while on tour

Olivia Rodrigo's dad is a family therapist, and the singer has been very open about starting therapy at 16. Photo: TNS It seems the therapists Olivia Rodrigo found for her band really helped. The 22-year-old singer and her tour manager Marty Hom provided free and accessible therapy for the entire Guts tour crew, rhythm guitarist Daisy Spencer revealed on The StageLeft Podcast. "I have never had anything like that," Spencer, 31, told host Chris Simpson. "And that reignited the importance of therapy to me because I had kind of fallen off for so long." Rodrigo and Spencer just wrapped the 102-date Guts world tour July 1 and completed a successful headlining set at Glastonbury, where they were joined on stage by the Cure's Robert Smith. While on the podcast, Spencer described Rodrigo as "the dreamiest boss of all time" and opened up about taking care of her mind and body on the road. "Suddenly I had this free resource of incredible therapists and I utilised the crap out of that," she said. "I was going, you know, once a week, once every other week, whenever I could. And it was even during the off time — we also still had access to this resource." Rodrigo's dad, Chris Rodrigo, is a family therapist, and the singer has been very open about starting therapy at 16. "That was a really big, life-changing moment," she told CBS Sunday Morning in 2021. "I've learned so much about myself." And she's not the only musician promoting therapy. Lewis Capaldi, who returned to the stage after a two-year break from performing to focus on his all-around health, announced Monday that he's partnering with BetterHelp to provide 734,000 hours of free online therapy. Ariana Grande has also partnered with the virtual therapy platform several times in the past. Though the Guts tour has concluded, Rodrigo still has several festival engagements lined up for the summer, including a headlining set Aug 1 at Lollapalooza. – Los Angeles Times/Tribune News Service

Denise Richards's estranged husband claims she made up abuse claims

Aaron Phypers, left, and Denise Richards attend a premiere on Aug 8, 2024, in Los Angeles, California, US. Photo: TNS Aaron Phypers is claiming that Denise Richards manufactured allegations of abuse as a means to distract from an affair that he uncovered earlier this year. Less than two weeks after filing for divorce from the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills alum, 52-year-old Phypers told TMZ during a virtual interview that he learned his wife was cheating when he found illicit texts on her laptop back in February. He says he confronted Richards who begged Phypers not to leave her, assuring him she was 'so sorry' and 'won't do that again.' They decided to stay together, but Phypers says he later found texts going up until late May. Fast forward to July 4 weekend, Phypers claims Richards stole his phone and denied having it – at one point even 'hitting' and 'scratching' him when he questioned her about the device. Phypers says he found the phone a day later smashed in their recycling bin, but she continued to deny having anything to do with it. Asked why he thinks Richards would destroy his phone, Phypers says the device had photos of all the texts that would prove her alleged affair. Phypers filed for divorce on July 7, citing irreconcilable differences and asking for spousal support. Richards followed that earlier last week by requesting a temporary restraining order against Phypers, noting allegations of longstanding abuse including claims that he would 'violently choke' her and 'slam (her) head into the bathroom towel rack.' The court filing, obtained by TMZ, included a photo from 2022 showing Richards with a black eye, which she alleges her husband gave her. Phypers meanwhile insists it was the result of Richards taking a drunken fall at his office and hitting her head on 'a pole with a light on it.' Phypers claims other people were also present and can attest to the incident, adding that Richards 'falls down a lot and it's embarrassing. … It's scary.' Phypers asserts that he has never 'hit (his) wife in the face, ever,' but does admit to having forcefully grabbed her on various occasions. 'I grabbed and restrained her when she was punching Sami,' he claims of the 21-year-old daughter Richards shares with ex-husband Charlie Sheen. The exes also share daughter Lola, 20. Phypers says that Richards' allegations have put him in 'grave danger,' particularly on a financial level. 'The fact that she put this thing about me beating her, I'm like devastated,' he adds. 'I wanted to work it out. But she's gotta get help. It's not for me now, it's for herself and her daughters. I'm really worried about Eloise. It's not a good situation. … She's gotta get cleaned up and be responsible and own what she's doing.' Though Phypers confirmed in February that he'd become the adoptive father to Richards' 14-year-old adopted daughter Eloise, court documents say the spouses have 'no minor children' together. The Daily News has reached out to a rep for Richards. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
