TEXARKANA, USA (KTAL/KMSS)—The T.L.L. Temple Foundation has awarded a $2 million grant to fuel economic development in Texarkana. The City will distribute the funding to three interconnected local economic development initiatives.
'We use it for REDI Set Move, which is moving remote workers to the Texarkana area. So we'll be able to expand that program as well,' says Brandy Eldridge, Director of the Assembly Line.
The entrepreneurial competition Pitch It Texarkana will also get a share of the money.
Eldridge says, 'Pitch It Texarkana will be able to reach more people, more entrepreneurs.'

Entrepreneurs like Amber Adams and Chloe Young, who took home the grand prize of $10,000 at this year's competition for Split Vending, which will add tourism vending machines on Stateline Avenue.
'The really cool thing about Pitch It Texarkana is that even if you don't win, there are so many partnerships and people in the room who are willing to help,' says Adams.
One of the many perks of the competition, aside from the prize money and a custom-designed logo from Fab/co, is that contestants get access to the upcoming small business incubator, The Assembly Line, which will also receive support from the grant.
'It'll allow us to create a co-working space for more people to come in, more small businesses to start providing education and mentorship programs to our region,' says Eldridge.

The Assembly Line's downtown Texarkana home in the old Discovery Place children's museum is still under construction. They say the foundation grant is a game changer for them and the city.
'This is the first time they have invested in an incubator co-working space. They've never done that before, but when you look at all the development that we are seeing in Texarkana and the economic ecosystem that we're developing here, the assembly line is going to be a hub for that,' says Eldridge.
They expect the Assembly Line to be ready in early 2026.

Col. Co. leaders start plans for new data center and technology park in Appling

APPLING, Ga. (WJBF) – With a rise in cyber technology, Columbia County leaders are starting to work on plans to bring a data center to Appling. After recent discussions about ways to improve the county, Economic Development Authority Director Cheney Eldridge says they saw the need for a data center. 'Anything you do on the internet runs through a data center, so they're very important to have—not just for the country, but here in this community,' said Eldridge. County leaders have sent a rezoning application for almost 2000 acres near Morris Callaway Road. They're working with Trammel Crow, a commercial real estate firm out of Atlanta. 'They came to us when we were looking at this piece of property, and have really been with us the whole time working together through a public-private partnership. They're simply an intermediary between us and whoever would come in and locate within this park,' said Eldridge. She says they strategically picked that location, as nearby White Oak Business Park hosts operations for Club Car and Amazon's fulfillment center. 'I think it's important to keep all of these together, because the last thing we want is a splattered amount of projects all over. Industrial, a data center, or even an office park. You want to keep things together just like you want residential together,' Eldridge said. They are not planning on the data center to be an extension of White Oak Business Park, but workers will use that area to access the building. 'Access will come through the business park, and they'll access the property that way,' the director added. 'They'll come off of the highway as opposed to coming off of Morris Callaway.' The idea is to hire network engineers to operate at the center—what the authority hopes is a golden opportunity to create more jobs for those coming from Augusta University and Fort Eisenhower. 'Right now, a lot of the folks that are coming out of Fort Eisenhower are not able to find the right job that meets their skills. What we will have with this data center park is plenty of jobs that are exactly what we have coming out of Fort Eisenhower, and through the pipeline that we're building,' Eldridge said. The county is still working on costs and timelines with Trammel Crow. But with more jobs and generated tax revenue expected, they see it as a win-win. 'Any time you go on Facebook to look at pictures of your grandchildren, or you want to send a photo of your dog to a friend—you need a data center. It's integral for this country to have this type of infrastructure in place. I see it as an opportunity for this community to benefit from a necessary infrastructure that's going to have to go in any way,' said Eldridge. The county is now waiting on next steps with the developer. The construction timeline will take place over the next several years. 'I think you might see things start in the next few years. But for this size of a piece of property, for it to be fully built out will probably take 20 to 30 years,' Eldridge said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Shreveport Mayor highlights Economic Development Website, talks father's Day event, and speed camera bill

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux highlights a new initiative to boost local business growth, celebrate community events, and address updates on traffic enforcement. Salute the Badge: A candid conversation with SPD Chief Wayne Smith One of the most significant announcements was the launch of a new economic development website, a one-stop shop designed to facilitate the city's collaboration with entrepreneurs and small business owners. 'When we came into office, we wanted to simplify the process for people to do business in and with the city,' said Mayor Arceneaux. 'You can now find checklists, permit information, and applications online, without needing to visit Government Plaza.' The website is accessible from the city's homepage and includes resources tailored to new and existing business owners. 'Small businesses create most of the jobs in this country,' the mayor emphasized, 'so we want to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit right here in Shreveport.' Mayor Arceneaux also expressed his excitement about the upcoming Father's Day 5K, organized by community leader Alex T. Ray. The mayor will attend—'more walking than running,' he joked—and praised the event's focus on fatherhood and community unity. 'There's strong data that shows children who grow up with a father or father figure do better in life.' Shreveport mayor speaks on La. speed camera bill The mayor also acknowledged recent successes that have brought national attention to the city, including the LSUS Pilots' national championship win and their record-setting 59–0 season. 'They'll be forever in the record books,' Arceneaux said proudly. Finally, he addressed Senate Bill 99, which limits the use of speed cameras to school zones. 'We're happy to continue that program, but we are exploring other ways to address the epidemic of speeding and red light running in the city,' he said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. New businesses continuing to spur Downtown Texarkana's revival

TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) – Downtown Texarkana's revitalization is in full swing. One of the new businesses that has recently opened its doors is Tee It Up Golf Lounge. Legislative town hall to keep Texarkana citizens engaged in state politics 'The experience is virtual, but you do hit a real golf ball in a real golf club. The high-speed cameras of the foresight technology they capture all the data, and then you get to watch the ball flight on the projector,' says Owner Lance Scott, 'You can play major golf courses that the PGA Tour guys play. You can practice. You can hone your skills.' He says one of the reasons he decided to start his business downtown is that it offers unique opportunities. 'We really like the aspect of like the downtown vibes. We are in the entertainment district, so there are some added benefits that you can have with being in an area that where folks can walk around downtown,' says Scott. As more and more people return to downtown, you can see how many of the unoccupied buildings downtown are filled with history. 'We were developed beginning in 1873 and we have so much rich history here and that needs to be preserved to tell our story for future generations and the only way to do that is to preserve the current buildings that we have.' says Ina McDowell, Executive Director of Main Street Texarkana. Changes coming to downtown Texarkana in the name of pedestrian safety For the historic buildings, a little extra love is required to get the building ready to open its doors again, which is exactly the route that The Eagle Bourbon and Wine Lounge has taken. 'It's actually designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It has prism glass on the front and the building owners have recently had the original windows refurbished.' says McDowell, 'We always want to preserve the historic integrity of the building, but also we want to serve the purpose of it being a working viable business in our downtown and so both of those things go hand in hand.' The Eagle is nearly ready to welcome guests, with many more neighbors ready to join them. 'People down here, living down here, walking the streets, coming to the restaurants, supporting the businesses, all that is critical for the success of a downtown, and we're seeing that more and more.'
