Grand National runners, favourites & odds for 2025: Key horses to note
A maximum of 34 horses will lineup at start at Aintree Racecourse on Saturday, April 5. The full list of entries for the race has now been released, with 90 horses currently in the running to makes the start line. The handicap weights for the race then unveiled on February 11.
Below, Telegraph Sport assesses the top ten in the betting for the race before listing every horse entered.
Last year's winner is surely being primed at another crack at the prize, albeit under what is sure to be a much sterner weight. Tailed off at Christmas in a Grade 1 but that will worry connections little at this stage.
Joined new yard from France last season and produced three straight wins, culminating in victory in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse. Started the season over hurdles at Navan – there's not a chance in hell that will be his game come April.
Decent novice form and had looked to be circling a big performance in this kind of race before producing just that to win the Thyestes at Gowran. Seventh in the Irish Grand National last season.
Talented but fragile. Many thought Grade 1s would be on the agenda for connections but they sprung a surprise by making Aintree the big target. Needs to prove stamina at extreme distances but will have a class edge over many.
Hit the cross bar a couple of times as a novice over fences before emerging as a stayer of real potential at Navan earlier this month. Trainer immediately identified this as his end-of-season target.
Won a heavy-ground Midlands National over 4m2f so stamina will not be the issues here. Has started this season well, winning over fences at Ascot before placing in the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle.
Simply brilliant from BEAUPORT as they put in a phenomenal display in the inaugural 1st Class Logistics Berkshire National Handicap Chase, winning by over 20 lengths!@MccainToby / @NigelTwistonDav #Ascot #HorseRaces pic.twitter.com/hSndBmvcKa

Superb display in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury, after which this race was clearly on connections' minds. Got a decent hike in the weights for that win so unlikely to see too much more between now and April.
Another proven stayer at extreme trips, underlined with a pair of excellent displays to end last season. Was third in the Irish Grand National before winning the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown. He looks perfect for this sort or race.
Emerged as very useful cross-country horse of late and will be among the favourites for that race at Cheltenham. Unbeaten in tow starts this season and very much one to watch between now and April.

American teams could replace axed Welsh regions in revamped URC
The United Rugby Championship is in talks that could see two of its Welsh regions being replaced by United States-based teams. Telegraph Sport has been told there is 'big money on the table' to expand the competition to six nations amid an imminent announcement about its future in Wales. In the next 24 hours, the crisis-plagued Welsh Rugby Union is expected to present a plan that could cut its number of URC clubs from four to two. They could eventually be replaced by two teams based on the east coast of the United States, with the URC looking to exploit the Rugby World Cup in the country in 2031. Sources have told Telegraph Sport that expansion into the US would not be dependent on the loss of two Welsh clubs from the 16-team competition, although discussions remain at an early stage. According to those with knowledge of the talks, the URC would instead weigh up how competitive those teams would be, as well as logistical and travel issues. That would currently rule out sides from Major League Rugby, who would not be able to hold their own against those in the URC. The URC is also said to be exploring alternative options to set up linked divisions in Europe and Africa, feeding into the league – with the aim of driving growth in the global game for the 2031 World Cup and beyond. Telegraph Sport has contacted the URC for comment. Speaking in June, URC chief executive Martin Anayi said: 'As the URC, we have always had expansion in DNA. We have been the Celtic League, and we moved, and we have tried to grow each time. And we have done that. 'I think we have genuinely made it a better league. I think it is important that we continue to look outwards. But also, the bar is very high because, for every game you add, there is a player welfare issue to engage with. And that is something you have to make sure you aren't compromising. 'You have logistics, especially when we are transcontinental, and then you have the sporting element, and we want it to be as competitive as ever. So I would never say never, but I think the bar is very high to do that. 'We play less rugby with the URC model and format. We don't have home and away games in every match. And it also allows us to not play across international weekends. 'We have almost 320 internationals playing in the league, which is almost double what you have in the Premiership or Super Rugby. 'If we do expand in the future, it has to be in the right way, and we don't fall into the traps of those who have done it in the past, and it hasn't been successful.' Any axing of Welsh clubs would not be for this season, with a WRU announcement set to be followed by a six-week consultation period with stakeholders. Cardiff, owned and run by the union after being plunged into administration earlier this year, look set to be spared from any cull. However, Scarlets, Ospreys and Dragons are all reportedly resisting mergers that would result in one team in the east and one in the west. The URC last expanded in 2021 when four South African franchises joined the competition, which previously featured teams from Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Italy. Telegraph Sport revealed last year that Premiership clubs had discussed a proposal for a merger with the URC – minus teams from South Africa and Italy. The URC later appeared to pour cold water on the idea by announcing it was 'committed' to the pace of growth it said it had enjoyed under its existing five-nation format. LIV Golf to stop paying DP World Tour fines for players, per report
A major change could soon be coming to LIV Golf, and it has nothing to do with the on-course product. Telegraph Sport reported Thursday that LIV Golf has informed its players it will stop paying DP World Tour fines for its players to remain members on the circuit. That change will take effect next season. It's pivotal for a couple reasons, but it has large ramifications for the Ryder Cup. Members of the European squad must be DP World Tour members. Players on LIV Golf, like Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Adrian Meronk and Tom McKibbin, have maintained their DP World Tour membership due to LIV Golf paying the fines. Former DP World Tour golfers competing for LIV Golf are in violation of the DP World Tour's conflicting events policy, which requires a release to play elsewhere. In April 2023, the Tour won a U.K. arbitration case that allows it to enforce the penalties. That means if players want to compete on the DP World Tour, they'll have to pay a fine, among other penalties. Rahm and Hatton are currently appealing that decision. Telegraph Sport reports the league has dished out 15 million euros, with another 8 to 10 million euros due in outstanding fines. The hearing on the appeal will take place after the Ryder Cup in September, making them eligible to play. Rahm's manager, in a letter to Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings, said Rahm 'has no intention of paying any fines," per the report. A source also told Telegraph Sport, "There would be outrage if the Tour caved in. The point is that the Tour fully expected the peace negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Saudis to have been settled by now, so they kicked this can down the road, happy in the belief it wouldn't matter. But with no deal in the pipeline – anything but, in fact – there is a huge problem looming. 'And at this point, unless the impasse between the two parties is broken, or the Tour changes its rules or even quits the strategic alliance with the PGA Tour and rows in with the Saudis, it is inevitable that the Europe Ryder Cup will be weakened for the match in Ireland in 2027. These are uncertain times and there is a lot of angst about what happens next.' LIV Golf is playing its 11th event of 14 in 2025 this week at LIV Golf UK at JCB Golf & Country Club.

Report: Luke Donald agrees to Ryder Cup rule change, helping Keegan Bradley's path as playing captain
A recent rule change has further paved the way for Keegan Bradley to be a playing captain for the U.S. squad in the 2025 Ryder Cup. Telegraph Sport reported Monday that Team Europe and captain Luke Donald have agreed to a rule change in the captain's agreement that will allow one of Bradley's assistants to act as a de facto captain if Bradley is playing during a session. 'Keegan can only change the overarching contract with Luke and Ryder Cup Europe's approval,' a source told Telegraph Sport. 'The contract between the teams includes things like how many vice-captains a team can have, etc. That is used year on year and captains rarely change that. But Keegan went to Luke with this clause and Luke generously agreed. We don't want any bad blood between the camps.' Only the captain is allowed to give advice to players in the Ryder Cup, such as what clubs to hit on a par 3 or where to aim in a fairway. But as Bradley, who looks set to become the first Ryder Cup playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963, continues to plan to play, he's making adjustments to allow his assistants to step in if he is on the course. The report suggests Jim Furyk, who was Team USA's captain in 2018 during a defeat in Paris, would step up into the role of captain when Bradley is playing. Bradley sits 10th in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings with four weeks to go until the top six earn automatic selections on the team. While it's unlikely Bradley rises that far, his recent form suggests he's one of the 12 best Americans to take on Bethpage Black come September in New York. Now, a change in the rules further paves the way for him to be a playing captain. This article originally appeared on Golfweek: Ryder Cup 2025: Rule change assists Keegan Bradley as playing captain
