Tailor pleads not guilty to molesting teen with disability
Muhammad Arif Zulfakar Abdul Razak, 25, is accused of committing the offence against the 17-year-old girl in the restroom of a vocational training centre in Taman Keramat, here, around 6.30 pm in early May.
He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of the two, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Norhidayah Abdullah Sani requested bail of RM6,000 with additional conditions that the accused be prohibited from approaching the victim or tampering with prosecution witnesses.
The accused's lawyer, Lingswaran Singh, applied for minimal bail, citing his client's employment as a tailor and responsibility as the family's sole breadwinner.
Judge Nurulizwan Ahmad Zubir allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM4,000 with the additional conditions requested by the prosecution and fixed July 21 for case mention.
In the same court, technician Ahmad Nizar Ahmad Aminudin, 51, pleaded not guilty to threatening a 46-year-old man with a knife at a restaurant in front of a flat in Taman Dato Ahmad Razali on May 28.
He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
DPP Norhidayah proposed a bail of RM5,000 with one surety. However, the accused's lawyer, Vinobha Doss from the National Legal Aid Foundation, requested a lower bail on the grounds that his client is the sole breadwinner of his family.
The court granted bail at RM3,000 with one surety and fixed July 10 for case mention.

Four teens freed on bail in Kajang assault case
KUALA LUMPUR: Four 13-year-old students detained over the alleged assault of a classmate at a shopping mall in Kajang have been released on police bail today. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the remand for the suspects, which was initially extended until tomorrow, was concluded earlier following the completion of documentation and investigative procedures. 'To date, police have recorded statements from nine individuals, including the four students,' he said in a statement. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by dissatisfaction among the suspects with the victim's manner of communication and interaction. On July 30, the Form One student lodged a police report alleging classmates beat him at about 11 am at the mall. He later received medical treatment and was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries. Repeat offender stabbed policeman in Pudu while carrying drugs
KUALA LUMPUR: The man who stabbed a police corporal during a patrol in Pudu last week turned aggressive because he was carrying drugs, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. The 56-year-old suspect, a local man, was found to have 14 prior criminal records involving drugs and violent offences. He is currently remanded for seven days until next Thursday, with the case being investigated under Section 307 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and obstructing a public servant, as well as Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Speaking to reporters after visiting the injured officer at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia today, Ayob Khan said Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman of the Pudu police station is in stable condition. "He suffered injuries to the small intestine, with the stab wound about three centimetres wide and seven centimetres deep. Fortunately, it did not hit any vital organs," he said. The officer is now under medical supervision, able to speak but still in pain due to surgery. "God willing, he is expected to recover within one to two weeks," Ayob Khan added. Also present during the visit were Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan. Ayob Khan said police are constantly reviewing their standard operating procedures (SOP), including the need for body cameras among field personnel. "We have proposed that all personnel, especially those in the Motorcycle Patrol Unit and Mobile Patrol Vehicle Unit, be equipped with body cameras," he said.
