Milwaukee Project Clean & Green; community cleanup program kicks off
The City of Milwaukee is kicking off an initiative to keep neighborhood streets clean.
Leaders say it's an initiative to take back pride in your neighborhood and tackle the city's illegal dumping issue.
Project Clean & Green will run from April 21 through June 2, with collection crews targeting one zone each week, ensuring that the entire city is covered.
MILWAUKEE - The Department of Public Works (DPW) and Mayor Cavalier Johnson on Wednesday, April 16 will kick off Project Clean & Green. It's a citywide initiative designed to promote neighborhood pride and ownership through a coordinated community cleanup program.

According to a news release, Project Clean & Green will run from April 21 through June 2, with collection crews targeting one zone each week, ensuring that the entire city is covered.
Each eligible property can dispose of up to six cubic yards of materials, all at no cost to residents.
A news release says residents can place unwanted items like furniture, mattresses, and household items at their regular collection point at the curb or in the alley.

Yard waste must be placed in brown paper yard waste bags. Items should be placed by 7 a.m. on the designated collection day for the area.
Service is on your regular garbage collection day of the week shown for your zone. Most items will be picked up the same day, though collection may continue into the following business day.

Apartment complexes of five or more units and businesses are not eligible for participation.

Items such as appliances, tires, electronics, construction debris, paint, motor oil or other hazard waste are not accepted. Residents are encouraged to use DPW Drop-Off Centers or MMSD household hazardous collection sites to properly dispose of those items.

The campaign to save a green space from development continues, with residents illustrating its importance within the community with posters. Harwood residents are desperately trying to stop the land from being lost and be replaced by a new housing estate. The a two-year saga between developer Oak Tree Ltd and Harwood residents has now gone to the planning inspectorate for a final decision. 'The residents are all keen on saving this green space because its so special. It's a green corridor that cuts through the Millennium Wood and when it's gone it's gone. Ward councillor Les Webb said: 'Having supported residents through this arduous journey so far, where this potential development is solely about profit for the developers and not providing sufficient affordable houses. "This application was correctly refused by the elected councillors at the planning meeting and these level of complaints are only manifesting due to greed of the developers. (Image: Leah Collins) 'I sincerely hope the Planning Inspectorate will protect the Green Spaces , Wildlife corridors as well as ancient trees and hedge rows and this debacle to bed once and for all. 'Also let it be a lesson to other developers who see Harwood as a quick buck our residents will fight for our Green Belt and remind BMBC of the Brown Belt first policy as well as the directives of Places for Everyone. 'Our villages infrastructures can not support further expansion, school places are at capacity, doctors surgery's without appointments and a grid locked road system relying on data from 2007 - 2009 since any data was collected, Harwood is full!' Speaking at the planning meeting where the plan was rejected, Cllr John Walsh said: "This development is cause for serious concern specifically because of its proximity to a site of biological interest and the significant negative impact on this will not be lost. It is for that reason I'm refusing the application."

Paving starts Tuesday on Morgan Road in West Springfield
WEST SPRINGFIELD — Mayor William Reichelt said on social media Wednesday that paving work on Morgan Road is set to begin Aug. 12. Earlier, Reichelt said crews needed at least two weeks to raise manholes and catch basins before paving could start. While it has been two-and-a-half weeks since milling started, that work is moving along, he said. 'Compared to other roads, this is a much larger project — covering about 1.5 miles and involving adjustments to over 125 structures, all while keeping the road open for travel,' the post said.
