Two dead, 32 injured in temple stampede in UPs Barabanki
The incident occurred at the Avsaaneshwar temple in the Haidergarh area during the holy month of Shravan on Monday when devotees had gathered at the temple for 'jalabhishek' (offering water as a ritual). The electric current spread through the tin shed as the wire fell, triggering panic and a stampede in the temple premises.
Prashant (22) from the Mubarakpura village under the Lonikatra police station area and another 30-year-old devotee succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the Trivediganj Community Health Centre (CHC), officials said.
A total of 10 injured persons were brought to Trivediganj CHC, of whom five were referred to higher medical centres due to their critical condition.
Meanwhile, 26 injured devotees are being treated at the Haidergarh CHC, and one of them has been referred for advanced care due to serious injuries.
Following the incident, there was chaos in the temple and surrounding areas. District and police officials reached the spot and are working to manage the situation. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Barabanki District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi said that during the 'jalabhishek' ritual, monkeys had damaged an electric wire, which caused current to flow through three tin sheds in the temple complex.
The resulting panic led to a stampede in which two people lost their lives and more than two dozens were injured, he added.
Devotees later resumed their worship at the temple. PTI COR KIS MNK MNK

Case against producer for forging signature to get rights of films title
Kochi, Jul 29 (PTI) Police have registered a case against Malayalam film producer P A Shamnas for allegedly obtaining the title of the upcoming film 'Action Hero Biju-2' by forging actor-producer Nivin Pauly's signature. Based on a complaint from Pauly, an FIR was registered against Shamnas under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 465 (forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), police sources said. In the agreement signed in 2023 by Nivin Pauly, director Abrid Shine and Shamnas for making the film 'Action Hero Biju-2,' all the rights of the film were given to Nivin Pauly's production company, Pauly Junior. Pauly said in his complaint that Shamnas acquired the rights to the name of the film from the Kerala Film Chamber by hiding the agreement. For this, a document with Nivin Pauly's forged signature was presented. When these matters came to light during the police investigation, the Palarivattom police had registered a case against Shamnas. The police had earlier registered a case against Nivin Pauly on a complaint filed by Shamnas, who claimed that he owned the rights to the film and that Pauly Junior Company had given the overseas rights to another company without his knowledge. The complaint states that Shamnas conspired to humiliate Nivin Pauly in public and get his way by threatening him while the dispute over the contract was still pending. The upcoming movie's first part, "Action Hero Biju" (2016), starring Nivin Pauly and directed by Abrid Shine was a mega hit in Malayalam.

Singapore warns of elevated terror threat amid rising extremist ideologies
Singapore, Jul 29 (PTI) Singapore's Internal Security Department (ISD) has warned that the country's terror threat remains high, citing a growing diversity of extremist ideologies and the misuse of evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence to propagate radical narratives. According to ISD's Singapore Terrorism Threat Assessment Report 2025, 'a volatile global landscape arising from developments such as the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict and continued traction of radical narratives" has intensified the proliferation of extremist ideologies, the Channel News Asia (CNA) reported on Tuesday. The ISD in its report also highlighted the increasing role of online platforms in radicalisation, particularly among youths. Social media and messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, X (formerly Twitter), Reddit, and Instagram, as well as gaming platforms like Discord and Roblox, and video-sharing platforms like YouTube and Bitchute, have been used to disseminate extremist materials, it said. From July 2024 to June 2025, eight self-radicalised Singaporeans — six males and two females aged between 15 and 56 — were dealt with under the Internal Security Act (ISA). Four of them were influenced by the re-escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October 2023, two by pro-ISIS ideologies, and the remaining two by far-right extremist beliefs, the report said, adding that all of them encountered extremist content online. The agency also noted the uptick in the number of local self-radicalised youths, with half of the eight latest cases involving youths aged 20 or below. Singapore's trend mirrors a broader global trend, with several western countries reporting last year that one in five terror suspects are under 18, while European countries reported that nearly two-thirds of ISIS-related arrests involved teenagers, the report said. A total of 60 self-radicalised individuals — 48 Singaporeans and 12 foreigners — were dealt with under ISA since 2015, it said. The agency found that online platforms featured in terrorism-related activities in four broad areas: to enable the radicalisation or to accelerate it, to facilitate recruitment for terrorist-related activities; and to mobilise and prepare for armed violence. 'The emergence of technological innovations, such as AI, also risks complicating the terrorist threat globally and locally," the ISD said. 'Even though there is no indication that evolving technologies, such as AI and 3D printing, have been used in any terrorist attack plot in Singapore, we are seeing an emerging trend of evolving technologies featuring in local youth self-radicalisation cases," it said. The report cited two examples to buttress its point. A 17-year-old ISIS supporter, detained in September last year, used an AI chatbot to generate a bai'ah – an oath of allegiance – to ISIS, while another 17-year-old far-right extremist, detained in March, used an AI chatbot to find instructions for producing ammunition and considered 3D printing firearms to carry out attacks. 'There is a need for increased cooperation between the public and private sectors, especially with technology and social media companies, to create a safer online environment," the ISD said. It noted that technology firms have stepped up their efforts, such as regulating and removing egregious content on social media platforms. 'However, technology companies could continue to explore further efforts in this area, including collaboration with religious and community organisations, to guide users in navigating the digital space and positively influence the online discourse," it said. Gujarat Doctor Duped Of Rs 19 Crore In 'Digital Arrest' Scam, One Arrested
Last Updated: A Gandhinagar doctor was duped of Rs 19 crore over three months by fraudsters posing as officials who trapped her in a 'digital arrest' scam, a report has claimed. One person was arrested on charges of duping a doctor and forcing her to transfer Rs 19 crore over a period of three months. According to a report with India Today, the doctor, based in Gujarat's Gandhinagar, first received a call on March 15, when the caller told her that she had objectionable content on her phone and that her connection would be snapped. Fearing a money laundering case against her, the doctor gradually became a victim of 'digital arrest' by the callers, who identified themselves as authorities, including a sub-inspector, a public prosecutor, and others. As the caller continued to blackmail her and instil fear in her of an action, she ended up transferring Rs 19 crore of her lifetime savings and assets in three months to 35 different bank accounts, the report claimed. The fraudsters further exploited the situation by securing a loan against the doctor's gold jewellery and transferring those funds as well, according to the report. In due course of time, the doctor even started informing the callers of her whereabouts. One person from the gang was arrested in Surat as the police swung into action. The report claimed the police found Rs 1 crore of the duped funds in the bank account of the arrested person.
