Jordan Amissah confident Ross County can finish the job in Premiership play-off

Glasgow Times26-05-2025
Ronan Hale scored a stoppage-time penalty for County to cancel out Danny Wilson's earlier opener for the Championship side at the end of the first half on the artificial surface in West Lothian.
The Staggies' 23-year-old German goalkeeper believes that leveller was pivotal to their chances of tasting success in the second leg in Dingwall on Monday night.
Amissah said: 'It was never going to be an easy game, but we stayed in the game, it's a tie over two legs and we've done our job.
'Ronan scores a brilliant penalty, it's never easy, those games, but we've done our job, now it's all about going back to Dingwall, on our ground and performing.
'So, very confident, we've shown in the past that we're a good team, and it's about doing that again.
'We've been a Premiership club for a reason, that's what it's about on Monday, to turn up and get the job done.
'I think over the last few games we've played very good first halves, now it's just about performing for 90 minutes and making sure we're getting the job done, the boys leaving it all out there.
'It's just about finding the moments of quality up the pitch and getting goals, and I'm sure the defence and me will do everything we can to keep the team in the tie.'
It is the third successive season that Ross County have had to use the play-offs for survival, after beating Raith Rovers and Partick Thistle in previous years.
Amissah, who signed from Sheffield United in December, initially on a short-term deal but who is now contracted until 2027, said: 'The boys have been talking about it, obviously. George Harmon can't stop talking about his last-minute goal against Partick.
'And obviously since I've joined, I've had a look at those play-off games, as the boys told me they've been in them the last two years.
'The fans have looked unbelievable in those games and really backed the boys, and that's what we need of them again on Monday. Be behind us, get behind us, and we will leave it all out there.
'Of course, I want to be in the Premiership, I've signed, and I want to help the team to stay there.
'I think when I signed that contract we had been on a very good run. Obviously over the last few league games we've not been getting the results, which made us be in that position we are in now.
'But I will leave it all out there and try and help the team to stay in the league.'

'We're fortunate Nunez injury wasn't more serious'

Marcelino Nunez is set to miss several weeks with an ankle injury sustained in the win at Portsmouth, according to Norwich City boss Liam ahead of the Canaries' home game with Middlesbrough on Saturday (15:00 BST), Manning told BBC Radio Norfolk: "We're probably fortunate it wasn't more serious."It was a bit of a nasty one, but fortunately we are talking a few weeks rather than months."It's disappointing because he did extremely well in the Watford game, and I thought he was excellent in the first half against Portsmouth."We're disappointed to lose him, but with the games coming up and then the international break, hopefully we'll see him not long after that."Other topics covered by Manning in his press conference included: "Kenny McLean is back in training. Lucien Mahovo and Gabriel Forsyth are progressing – we're moving in the right direction in terms of getting bodies back.""Josh Sargent has been excellent. He leads, he's stepped up in the changing room. He's in a really good spot.""It's difficult for players with the noise [around transfers] and the pressure, but I can't speak highly enough of Sargent. He's played every pre-season game - not missed a session.""We've got loads to work on. We're trying to pick up results while evolving. It was a strong learning week for us.""We want to turn Carrow Road into a really tough place to come.""Middlesbrough have started well. They didn't have a huge overhaul in the summer. They have some talented players.""There's a lot to be excited about here. It's important to enjoy the journey.""We've got good physicality now. We have to make sure we maximise it."Click here to listen to Liam Manning's full pre-match interview via BBC Sounds.

Tiger Woods to lead PGA committee focused on 'significant' change

August 20 - ATLANTA -- Tiger Woods was named the chair of the PGA Tour's new future competition committee by CEO Brian Rolapp, who is tasking the nine-person panel to bring "significant change" to the current model for Tournament golf competition. Rolapp said Wednesday the goal is to optimize the game for players, fans and Tour partners. Woods was told to apply a "clean sheet" mentality and invite input from players, fans, sponsors and partners. "The goal is not incremental change," Rolapp said at East Lake Golf Club one day before the Tour Championship begins. "The goal is significant change." Fan engagement was amplified under Jay Monahan, and is a core tenet for LIV Golf with a popular social media presence driven by Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson, among others. Rolapp is looking to widen the PGA Tour's presence in those categories while thinking even bigger. "The sports business is not that complicated. You get the product right. You get the right partners. Your fans will reward you," Rolapp said. Woods is one of four player directors on the new committee. Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott and Camilo Villegas are joined by Maverick McNealy and Keith Mitchell of the player advisory council. Joe Gorder, chairman of the PGA Tour Enterprises and Policy boards, Red Sox and Fenway Sports Group owner John Henry and former Cubs and Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein are also on the committee. Epstein currently serves as a senior advisor to FSG. Rolapp said he has not had contact with anyone from the Public Investment Fund. While he did not say verbatim that merger talks with LIV Golf are dead, he intimated his focus was exclusively on the PGA Tour. "I have not spoken to anyone from the Public Investment Fund. I've been here for three weeks, so my focus has obviously been on the Tour, focusing on the Tour and in learning and starting to develop a bit of a vision for the future," Rolapp said. "I would offer to you that the best collection of golfers in the world are on the PGA Tour," he continued. "I think there's a bunch of metrics that demonstrate that, from rankings to viewership to whatever you want to pick. I'm going to lean into that and strengthen that." The full committee, confirmed by the PGA Tour and announced Wednesday: Tiger Woods (Chairman) -- Player Director, PGA TOUR Policy & PGA TOUR Enterprises Boards Patrick Cantlay -- Player Director, PGA TOUR Policy & PGA TOUR Enterprises Boards Adam Scott -- Player Director, PGA TOUR Policy & PGA TOUR Enterprises Boards Camilo Villegas -- Player Director, PGA TOUR Policy & PGA TOUR Enterprises Boards Maverick McNealy -- Co-Chairman, PGA TOUR Player Advisory Council Keith Mitchell -- Co-Chairman, PGA TOUR Player Advisory Council Joe Gorder -- Chairman, PGA TOUR Policy & PGA TOUR Enterprises Boards; Former Executive Chairman & CEO, Valero Energy John Henry -- Principal, Fenway Sports Group; Manager, Strategic Sports Group; PGA TOUR Enterprises Board Member Theo Epstein -- Senior Advisor, Fenway Sports Group; Former General Manager, Boston Red Sox and President of Baseball Operations, Chicago Cubs --Field Level Media

Scottie Scheffler says Tiger Woods showed him intensity needed to be the best

World number one Scottie Scheffler credits Tiger Woods for inspiring the crucial change to his game which has made him arguably the best golfer since the 15-time major winner's pomp. Scheffler won the US PGA and Open Championship this year, with three of his four majors coming in the last eight events, and also has three other PGA Tour victories in 2025. He is the last player since Woods to win five tournaments in back-to-back seasons and while he continues to play down comparisons, he does admit the influence of golf's modern great sparked a turning point in his own career. ' Tiger was just different in the sense of the way he approached each shot, it was like the last shot he was ever going to hit,' said Scheffler, who is attempting to become the first player to successfully defend a FedEx Cup title in the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. 'I've only played with Tiger once in a tournament, in the 2020 Masters and I think he made a 10 on the 12th hole and then he birdied, I think, five of the last six. 'It was like 'What's this guy still playing for? He's won the Masters five times. Best finish he's going to have is like 20th place at this point'. 'I just admired the intensity that he brought to each round. That was something that I just thought about for a long time. 'I felt like a change I needed to make was bringing that same intensity to each round and each shot. 'I don't hit the ball the furthest, the things that I do on the golf course other people can do, so I think it's just the amount of consistency and the intensity that I bring to each round of golf – not taking shots off, not taking rounds off, not taking tournaments off. 'When I show up at a tournament, I'm here for a purpose and that's to compete hard and you compete hard on every shot.' Those are ominous words from a player who is currently top of the FedEx standings with almost twice as many points as second-placed Rory McIlroy. However, unlike previous years, when there were shots advantages to be earned from your place in the 30-man standings, every player now starts level par and the winner over four rounds wins not only the Tour Championship but the FedEx Cup and a 10 million US dollar (£7.4m) bonus. 'I'm maybe part of the minority. I didn't hate the starting strokes,' said McIlroy. 'I thought that the player that played the best during the course of the season should have had an advantage coming in here but the majority of people just didn't like the starting strokes. 'But you could also argue if it was starting strokes this week Scottie with a two-shot lead probably isn't enough considering what he's done this year and the lead that he has in the FedExCup going into this week.'
