WTA roundup: Lois Boisson makes first final in Hamburg
No. 5 seed Lois Boisson of France and No. 7 Anna Bondar of Hungary will both play in their first WTA Tour final on Sunday in the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open in Germany.
Boisson eliminated No. 2 seed Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine 6-1, 7-6 (5) in Saturday's semifinals. She converted three of five break chances and found success with her second serve, winning 70 percent of the points (16 of 23).
Bondar rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win against Slovenia's Kaja Juvan. Bondar converted five of six break points and took advantage of six double faults by Juvan.

No. 6 seed Jil Teichmann of Switzerland advanced to her first WTA Tour final since 2021 and will take on No. 7 seed and home hopeful Irina-Camelia Begu on Sunday in Romania.
Teichmann knocked out Romania's Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals, overcoming a 3-1 deficit in the first set by winning nine of the next 10 games. Teichmann also saved four of six break points.
Begu ousted fellow Romanian and No. 2 seed Jaqueline Cristian 6-4, 6-4. Begu saved nine of 11 break points and finally put away Cristian on her fifth match point.

Alpine skiing-Austrian Venier bows out as a world champion ahead of Olympics
(Reuters) -Super-G world champion Stephanie Venier announced her retirement on Thursday, six months before the Milano-Cortina Olympics, with the Austrian saying she was no longer prepared to risk her health and wanted to go out at the top. The 31-year-old Austrian won the first gold medal of her senior Alpine skiing career on home snow last February at the Saalbach world championships. Venier took part in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, failing to finish the downhill, and missed the 2022 Beijing Games. "The thought of ending my career isn't new -- it's been growing inside me for a while," she said in a statement. "The deep will and determination required for elite sport just hasn't been there in recent months in the way I expect from myself. "Even though the Olympic Games are coming up next year, now feels like exactly the right time to bring my racing career to a close." Venier, who made her World Cup debut in 2013 and was a junior world champion in Super-G that same year, earned three World Cup wins and a total of 12 podiums. "Fortunately, I was spared from major injuries, but I no longer want to push the recurring knee problems and risk my long-term health," she said. The 35-year-old was involved a serious road accident in December when his car hit a tree on the way home from training, breaking his thigh bone in four places, and he did not play for West Ham again. Antonio joined the London club from Nottingham Forest in 2015 and made 323 appearances, scoring 83 goals to become West Ham's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League. "Michail will always be a much-loved and respected member of the West Ham United family. As has been the case since December, the Club will continue to support and assist him in his ongoing rehabilitation, offering him access to training, facilities and medical care if needed," West Ham said in a statement. "Dialogue continues over his future involvement with the Club in an alternative capacity - including one that would enable others to benefit from his experience and leadership qualities - and he will forever hold a special place in our 130-year history." Antonio helped West Ham win the Europa Conference League in 2023, ending their 43-year wait for major silverware. Antonio made his competitive action to return in June as a substitute for Jamaica in a CONCACAF Gold Cup game against Guatemala. Cricket-Time to move on from South Africa's WTC win, says Rabada
(Reuters) -South Africa's leading paceman Kagiso Rabada says it is time to move on from the euphoria of beating Australia in the World Test Championship final wile admitting a belated major trophy success has come as a relief to his team. Rabada will lead South Africa's attack as they take on Australia in three Twenty20 clashes and three one-day Internationals starting in Darwin on Sunday. "I think it was special, and I've done so many interviews on that since," Rabada said of South Africa's victory over Australia at Lord's in June. "I think it's time to move on. I don't think we'll forget about that ever as a team, and South Africa won't ever (forget), but time to move on now." he told a press conference on Thursday. The five-wicket win in the WTC final followed several frustrating near misses for South Africa in limited-overs World Cups. "It was kind of like a relief. But the show moves on, and moving toward the T20 World Cup, I guess the approach will be a bit different. Now, you know, there's no fear of anything." Rabada is relishing a reprisal of the rivalry between Australia and South Africa. "It's always some hard cricket being played, some good cricket," he said. "Whenever we play Australia, I always feel like they get the best out of us, because they're sort of in our faces. And I guess we like that." Rababa, who turned 30 in May, has not played since the WTC final in London. "Thankfully, I've had quite a long break, so that's been awesome. Maintenance work consistently has to be done because the volume of cricket is quite a bit." The Australia tour comes ahead of next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, and the 2027 World Cup in Southern Africa, and South Africa hope the experience will benefit the young players in their squad.
