Swanage beaten by Poole in winner-takes-all T20
Swanage elected to bat first and got-off to a positive start through Sid Nash against some hostile, seam bowling. Then, despite some useful contributions from Freddie Long, Steve Ramsay & Ethan Stacey - the visitors were finally dismissed in the last over for just 106.
In reply, despite the hosts losing 2 early wickets, they had no further alarms and cruised to an 8-wicket victory with 6 overs to spare.
From this weekend, Swanage continue their quest to join Poole in Premier Division 1 with a return to 50-over matches.
Also on Saturday, the 2nd XI played host to league newcomers Rolex - a Bournemouth-based side in Division 4.
The hosts batted first and got off to a solid start with a half-century opening partnership between Simon Goldsack & John Lewis. Although, when Goldsack was finally dismissed for a fluent 44 with the score on 87 he was the 4th quick wicket to fall leaving Swanage in a precarious position.
The innings was consolidated and, then, given some respectability by not only Mike Nash - who made 28, but also, some lower-order hitting by Dylan Church and Andrew Hancock to at least 'post' a total - which gave the bowler's something to bowl at 168-8 from their 40 overs.
In reply, the hosts were subjected to a display of brutal, destructive power-hitting by the visitors opening batsman - Suresh Manoharan.
He smashed an incredible 26 boundaries - which included a staggering 13 sixes (it was like watching the IPL). He finished undefeated on 139 from only 75 balls as the visitors recorded a convincing 8-wicket win in less than 20 overs.

Paramount buys UFC rights for $7.7 billion, ending PPV events
Paramount just acquired the US rights to UFC for seven years in a deal worth $7.7 billion dollars, according to reporting by NBC News . This contract begins in 2026 and covers the organization's full slate of 13 marquee bouts and 30 Fight Night events per year. All matches and events will stream in the US on Paramount+ and select fights will simulcast on CBS. This ends the pay-per-view (PPV) model that ESPN+ has favored for premium UFC events. "What's on pay-per-view anymore? Boxing? Movies on DirecTV? It's an outdated, antiquated model," said Mark Shapiro, president of UFC's parent company TKO Group. Matches take place throughout the year, which isn't true of other sports. This should keep the UFC's massive fanbase tethered to that Paramount+ subscription. This happened just a few days after Skydance Media officially acquired Paramount and its subsidiaries for $8 billion. It's fairly wild that Skydance paid $8 billion to own Paramount and its various IPs in perpetuity and $7.7 billion to air UFC fights in one country for seven years. 'UFC is a unicorn asset that comes up about once a decade,' said TKO Group CEO David Ellison. Paramount is also interested in purchasing the international rights to air UFC matches and it's being given an exclusive negotiation window with each country to do just that. It's been reported that Paramount likely placated Trump in several ways to ensure the FCC approved the acquisition. The company coughed up $16 million to settle a "frivolous and dangerous" lawsuit with Trump after 60 Minutes interviewed Kamala Harris and cut an answer for time, which is something televised interviews have always done. Paramount will allocate that money to Trump's future presidential library and did not provide a "statement of apology or regret." CBS, which is owned by Paramount, also canceled The Late Show With Stephen Colbert , which was seen by many as a move to pacify Trump . The president denies this, saying the cancellation was due to a "pure lack of talent." Paramount has promised to end all US-based Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and to hire a bias monitor for CBS News to make sure that conservative voices aren't drowned out by the constant drumbeat of reality. Trump has also publicly stated that CBS will be giving him $20 million worth of airtime for public service announcements consistent with his ideological beliefs. Elite 2027 QB Peter Bourque commits to Michigan football over Penn State
When it comes to Michigan football recruiting, the Wolverines have done their best when they've had an early ringleader -- especially a quarterback -- leading the charge. It's always a good thing to get an early pledge from a high-profile QB early in the process, much like the maize and blue had with J.J. McCarthy, who was committed years before he actually enrolled. Now, though not as long-tenured, it appears as if the maize and blue have their man. Thought long to be a Penn State lean, Marion (Mass.) Tabor Academy four-star signal caller Peter Bourque has been long connected with the Wolverines. It had looked as if he would end up elsewhere while Michigan had zeroed in on Louisiana-based four-star Malachi Zeigler. But things took a sharp turn over the weekend, and on Monday morning, Bourque committed to Michigan. Here's the scouting report via 247Sports: Towering pocket passer with a live arm that has turned heads with his exit velocity, release points and ball placement. Will head to college with a little more seasoning than others after electing to reclassify and move back a year. That gained maturity constantly shows up on tape as he's a decisive thrower that limits risks. Sees the field well and will let route concepts develop while coordinating a modern pro-style attack. Rips tight spirals to the second and third levels with ease and has proven to be extremely efficient working off play-action. Grew up playing lacrosse and those movement skills translate over to the gridiron as he will climb away from pressure and step into throws. Not one that's afraid to embrace contact. Hasn't faced the highest-level of competition in New England, but has delivered in key moments, which counts. Should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level that can challenge defense vertically. Bourque is the Wolverines' third commitment of the 2027 class, joining offensive linemen Louis Esposito and Tristan Dare. He's listed at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds and is rated highest by the 247Sports Composite, which has him as the No. 75 player in the country, and the sixth-best quarterback in the cycle.

Van Dijk on Liverpool's Lack of Depth: 'I Trust the Club to Do the Right Thing'
Liverpool's signings this summer have caught plenty of attention for the right reasons. Signing superstar Florian Wirtz and rapid right back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. Bringing in left back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. All are exceptional signings. Yet at the same time, there have been departures. A lot of them. Currently, despite some very high quality arrivals, Liverpool look very thin at striker and centre half. There is, naturally, worry. Captain Virgil van Dijk, though, trusts the club to make the necessary signings. 'I don't know, we will find out,' Van Dijk said when asked about the lack of senior options at striker and centre half with the Premier League season set to kick off on Friday. 'What I think is that Hugo made an impression on and off the ball since he came in. 'Everything that happened with Diogo, it was tragic. Lucho and Darwin leaving. Those are three senior attackers. I fully trust the club to do the right thing now, what they think is good for the club. But if you look at the players that have come in, I think they played well today.' Assuming Federico Chiesa still departs as expected—or somehow stays but remains an unwanted spare part in manager Arne Slot's collection—that will leave just Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and new striker signing Hugo Ekitike as established attacking options. Meanwhile at the back, Jarell Quansah has been sold leaving Ibrahima Konaté and Joe Gomez—both of whom have significant injury histories, with Gomez currently out with one—along with Van Dijk at centre half. For a side looking to play 60+ games, that's not enough. Liverpool have an exceptional squad. One of the best in Europe. And they've made arguably the best signings of the summer transfer window of any of the big clubs in Europe. None of that will matter, though, if they lack the depth to compete into March, April, and May. 'Jeremie and Hugo with the goals, Milos was good, you need time with everything,' Van Dijk added. 'If you play together you know the strengths and what the player likes in terms of positioning. That is obvious. I don't think in this case there is such a thing as too much change. 'I think we are in good shape. I know the defensive part of our team, we have conceded every game we played apart from Stoke when no fans were there. That is something we need to improve as a collective. Other than that it was good to feel the intensity again.'
