Kolkata: As state schools reopened after the summer vacation on Monday, institute heads implemented precautionary and hygiene measures against the fresh Covid surge to prevent the spread of infections while ensuring students did not panic.
Even CISCE and CBSE school heads are putting together advisories, to be issued once summer vacation gets over for affiliated institutes.
State school principals said they were keeping a close watch on the Covid developments and advising students to be cautious. Bhowanipore Mitra Institution has asked students not to share tiffin or mid-day meals. "Students have been told not to come to school if they have fever or cough and alert their teachers if they feel uncomfortable in class.
But we have said there's nothing to panic about," said headmaster Raja Dey, adding Covid guidelines had been posted in class groups.
Children's Welfare Association High School headmistress Sarbari Sengupta said she, too, had told students not to attend school if they had fever, cough or cold. The school has introduced the 'water bell' for children to drink adequate water at regular intervals.
Hare School has reopened taps beside the main gate, where students have to wash their hands.

Residents force authorities to remove ‘illegal' circle in NIBM Annexe area

Pune: Residents of the NIBM Annexe area on Wednesday made the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) remove a huge traffic circle at the Raheja Vista chowk, in coordination with traffic police. Jaymala Dhankikar, a social worker and resident, said the circle measuring around 10.5 metres had been constructed with the help of bollards, which resulted in vehicles, especially four-wheelers, finding it very difficult to manoeuver the roundabout. "After the construction of roads around the area, PMC engineers suddenly built this circle without any explanation. We contacted the civic body and then Kondhwa traffic police. Police, after an inspection, agreed that the roundabout was not required and no permission had been sought from them by PMC to construct it," Dhankikar said. Traffic has always been a problem. Sneha Kadam, a local resident, said, "I was surprised to find the circle guarded by bollards on Monday. It was difficult even for many two-wheelers to pass and go towards Raheja Vistas phase-3 area or towards Royal Heritage Mall Road due to this," she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A Teaspoon Before Bed Burns Body Fat - Fit Into Your Clothes Again! gofitlifeguide Click Here Undo Dhankikar said they had sent letters to the CMO, PMC commissioner, and other officials about the issue. "A police team visited the spot on Tuesday late evening. On Wednesday, PMC officials came and we had a heated argument with them. The officials then removed the bollards. It was built also without any basic engineering," she said. Maruti Patil, police inspector of Kondhwa traffic police, said the PMC-made circle was a problem. "The residents had not made any formal complaint but had informed us over the phone. We spoke to deputy engineer (road construction) of PMC and requested him to take our permission before venturing on such projects. The circle had three slopes and when one travelled, clear visual confirmation became a problem. PMC said the bollards had been constructed on an experimental basis but they were removed this afternoon. A joint survey will be carried out by police and PMC on ways to go forward," the officer told TOI. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). SEIAA launches helpline for environmental clearance queries

Jaipur: The State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) Wednesday introduced a dedicated helpline to provide quick, transparent assistance on environmental clearance (EC) queries for project proponents and environmental consultants. The service, available on +91 141 3500181, operates Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm, excluding govt holidays. A senior official said, "It will offer immediate updates on proposal status, EC procedures and other related matters, reducing the need for physical visits to the SEIAA office in Jaipur. The initiative aims to streamline processes and improve efficiency in environmental governance." Parallel to this development, the forest, environment and climate change department has outlined measures to accelerate the delivery of govt schemes and facilities to displaced families, resolve pending land transfer cases and advance wildlife conservation projects. The department has prioritised the settlement of khatedari (land ownership) rights for land allotted to displaced families, enabling them to access govt schemes and essential services. Administrative officials in Alwar, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Jhalawar, and Bundi have been directed to clear all such cases at the earliest. "Pending matters related to budget announcements are to be implemented without delay. Coordination between the forest department and local administrations will be strengthened to ensure that state-run schemes reach every eligible beneficiary. Wildlife infrastructure is also set for rapid development. Expansion and completion of biological parks in Rajasthan, including the remaining works at Abhera Biological Park in Kota and Marudhara Biological Park in Bikaner, have been placed on priority. The department aims to improve facilities in protected wildlife areas while addressing human-wildlife conflict through awareness programmes in nearby communities. These decisions were formalised during a review meeting attended by senior officials of the forest department, district-level forest officers, and district administration representatives. The meeting also recognised ongoing efforts by local administrations and departmental staff in supporting displaced families and managing conservation challenges. ‘Left wheezing & coughing': 15 take ill after gas leak at junkyard

Ghaziabad: Several residents of Hindon Vihar fell ill on Wednesday morning after a suspected ammonia gas leak at a scrapyard in the area. At least fifteen people had to be rushed to hospital for treatment. Officials said that a forensic team reached the spot to check on the suspected leak and they are still ascertaining the nature of the toxic gas. According to Hazi Jamuludin, a resident, people in the neighbourhood began experiencing coughing and breathlessness around 8am. "A pungent smell engulfed about 300 metres of radius around a scrapyard owned by one Hazi Salim. A few people also fainted, and whatever means one had at that time ferried passengers to hospitals," said Jamuludin. "I myself ferried at least four of them to the hospital. They complained of eye irritation and difficulty in breathing You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida | Gold Rates Today in Noida | Silver Rates Today in Noida Salim, a resident who was taken to a hospital for treatment, told TOI, "My house is close to the said scrapyard, and all of a sudden, I started wheezing and coughing and felt delirious. My vision was also blurred, but when I got out of my house, I could see many of my neighbours in more or less the same state. I realised that there was something in the air and tried to get away from the house until I was picked up by a neighbour who took me to MMG Hospital. My oxygen level had dropped to 70." Doctors treating the affected patients said that it looks like they have all inhaled ammonia gas. Out of the 15 who were admitted to the hospital, 11 have been discharged, but four are still under observation, a doctor said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Meanwhile, ACP Poonam Mishra said, "Our forensic team reached the spot, and this looks like a suspected case of ammonia poisoning. The scrapyards in the area are in the hundreds and have been operating for 15 to 20 years illegally. FIRs have been registered against the owner of the scrapyard under relevant sections of BNS. The area has around 400 scrapyards. "As this happened in the morning, our children had gone to school. Had this incident taken place at night, people would have died in their sleep," Jamuludin said.
