Wild Trailer for Netflix's Animated Dreamworld Adventure Comedy IN YOUR DREAMS — GeekTyrant

Geek Tyranta day ago

Netflix just dropped the trailer for In Your Dreams , a new animated comedy adventure that looks wonderfully weird. The movie follows two siblings who discover a mysterious book titled 'The Legend of the Sandman'.
They are launched into a candy-colored, chaos-fueled dreamworld where pretty much anything goes, including a town made of breakfast food and that classic nightmare scenario where you're suddenly, awkwardly naked.
Set perfectly to Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams,' the trailer plays like a mixtape of childhood imagination, sleepover fears, and sibling bonds. You've got zombie waffles, dream monsters, and a talking giraffe named Baloney Tony, voiced by Craig Robinson.
The voice cast also includes Simu Liu, Cristin Milioti, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Elias Janssen, Omid Djalili, Gia Carides, SungWon Cho, and Zachary Noah Piser.
Directed by Alex Woo and co-directed by Erik Benson, who also co-wrote the script from a story by Woo and Stanley Moore, the movie was produced by Timothy Hahn and Gregg Taylor, with music by John Debney and animation by Kuku Studios.
At a recent Netflix panel, Woo opened up about the long road to making a 'dream movie' that actually works. 'Dreams have always fascinated me. A dream movie in the animated space has sort of been a white whale. I think every animation studio in the world has had a dream movie in development at some point over the last couple decades, but none of them have ever been made, because I think nobody could figure out how to give a dream movie stakes.
'I really wanted to make a movie that explores the question of: What do you do when your dreams actually don't come true? How do you find hope? How do you keep moving forward in life?'
Robinson added: 'This script touches all of us. Everybody dreams. It is a love letter to our brothers and sisters. I have a younger brother and an older sister, so that was all real!'
If the trailer is any indication, this one's going to be a heartfelt ride through the subconscious, with just enough weird to keep both kids and adults wide awake.
The film is set to premiere November 14 on Netflix and it looks like a lot of fun!

What to Stream: HAIM, 'The Gilded Age,' Benson Boone, astronaut Sally Ride and digital dinosaurs

Lifelike digital Triceratops and Spinosaurus lumbering through a reimagined 'Walking with Dinosaurs' and Benson Boone's sophomore album 'American Heart' are some of the new television, films, music and games headed to a device near you. Also among the streaming offerings worth your time, as selected by The Associated Press' entertainment journalists: A documentary on trailblazing NASA astronaut Sally Ride, the third season of 'The Gilded Age' and Tron: Catalyst, a video game inspired by the 1982 movie 'Tron.' — Cristina Costantini's documentary 'Sally' (Tuesday on Disney+) richly details the story behind the headlines of the first American woman to fly in space. The portrait of Sally Ride, the trailblazing NASA astronaut, is narrated by her life partner of 27 years, Tam O'Shaughnessy. Her intimate perspective on Ride, along with archival footage and interviews with family and colleagues, captures a fuller backstory to an American icon who rose despite pervasive sexism. — 'The Ballad of Wallis Island' (streaming on Peacock) was a standout in the first half of 2025, but easy to miss. A funny and tender charmer set on the coast of Wales, it's not a movie screaming for your attention. It stars Tim Key as an isolated widower who uses some of his lottery winnings to hire his favorite band, a folk duo named McGwyer Mortimer (Tom Basden, Carey Mulligan) to play by his rural home. In her review, AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr wrote that the film feels 'like a much-needed balm. Modest in scope and made with the lightest of touch, not unlike the lovely folk songs that populate its soundtrack, it's also deceptively powerful: A gentle ode to moving on, in quirky packaging.' — Netflix tends to bury older films in its algorithms but the streamer is hosting a good batch of Alfred Hitchcock movies. This month, it added 'Vertigo,' 'Rear Window,' 'The Man Who Knew Too Much,' 'Frenzy,' 'The Plot' and 'The Birds' to its collection, along with the already-streaming 'Psycho.' These are movies often available elsewhere, and there are many other great Hitchcock films. But a solid sampler pack on Netflix could help bring Hitch to some new audiences, and there's never a bad time to see 'Vertigo' for the first time. New music to stream from June 16-22 — 'Beautiful Things' singer Benson Boone will release his sophomore album, 'American Heart,' on Friday, June 20. Expect big pop-rock filtered through a kind of post-Harry Styles mimicry, and 1970s worship. For fans of Queen, ELO, and gymnastic pop stars with a penchant for doing backflips on stage. — The Los Angeles sister trio HAIM have returned with 'I Quit,' 15 tracks of danceable breakup bangers perfect for your summertime sadness. It's soft rock-pop for the Miu Miu crowd and a sonic cure for seasonal depression. — The Brooklyn-based R&B/soul singer-songwriter Yaya Bey will release a new album on Friday, June 20, 'do it afraid.' It's a big of a detour for the ever-evolving talent: 'Merlot and Grigio' features Bajan dancehall artist Father Philis, the dance-y 'Dream Girl' has echoes of Prince and 'Raisins' is a bit jazzy. There's a lot to love here. — For the indie crowd, the New York-based Hotline TNT have been a fan favorite for their shoegaze-y power pop that appeals to both classic rockers and those emo pop-punkers who miss the Vans' Warped Tour. On Friday, June 20, the group, led by Will Anderson, will release 'Raspberry Moon' via Jack White's Third Man Records. Across the release, they build on their guitar melodicism. — AP Music Writer Maria Sherman New series to stream from June 16-22 — In 1999 a series called 'Walking with Dinosaurs' premiered in the UK and captivated audiences. Narrated by Kenneth Branagh, it was inspired by 'Jurassic Park' and at the time was the most expensive documentary per-minute ever made. Special effects like CGI and animatronics helped bring the dinosaurs to life. Twenty-five years later, a reimagined 'Walking with Dinosaurs' debuts on PBS in conjunction with the BBC using the latest technology to make the dinosaurs seem even more lifelike. The six-episode series is now narrated by actor Bertie Carvel. It will be available to stream on PBS platforms and its app beginning Monday. — It's a great week for period pieces. First, Apple TV+'s Gilded Age, girl power series, 'The Buccaneers,' returns Wednesday for its second season. The soapy period piece features a cast that includes Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah and Christina Hendricks. It's based on an unfinished Edith Wharton novel about five American women in London for debutante season. These women are a contrast to English high society because they're extroverted and opinionated. The story is centered around Froseth's Nan who is in a love triangle although each character has their own drama to contend with. Leighton Meester has also joined the cast. — BritBox has the 1930s drama 'Outrageous," also out Wednesday. It's based on the true story of the Mitford sisters, six women born into an aristocratic family who made headlines for their personal lives and politics. Bessie Carter, who plays Penelope Featherington on 'Bridgerton' plays one of the sisters, Nancy Mitford. 'Outrageous' is inspired by a biography that was originally published in 2002. — The TV adaptation of the popular YA novel 'We Were Liars' arrives on Prime Video on Wednesday. It follows the affluent Sinclair family who has enough secrets to fill one of their bank accounts. It follows Cadence, one of the granddaughters who pals around all summer with two cousins and a family friend, Gat, and their group of four is known as The Liars. When Cadence is injured and no one will be honest with her about what happened, she attempts to piece together what happened. — Another dysfunctional family is introduced Thursday in Netflix's 'The Waterfront" about the Buckleys, a family of fisherman and restaurateurs in North Carolina. Business has been dwindling and questionable choices are made to stay afloat, keep their secrets, and not get caught by authorities. Holt McCallany ("Mindhunter") Maria Bello and Melissa Benoist star. Topher Grace and Dave Annable also have recurring roles. — A third period piece out this week is the third season of 'The Gilded Age" and there is a lot to catch up on. Cynthia Nixon's Ada Forte, now a widower after a very short marriage, has just discovered her late husband left her a fortune. This makes Ada the new matriarch of her family, surpassing her sister Agnes (played by Christine Baranski.) Their niece Marian (Louisa Jacobson) seems to be in the early stages of a courtship with neighbor Larry Russell, whose family's wealth comes from new money. Created by Julian Fellowes, the new season premieres Sunday, June 22 on Max. — Alicia Rancilio New video games to play from June 16-22 — The influence of Disney's movie 'Tron,' with its icy, neon vision of cyberspace, far outweighs the number of people who actually saw it when it came out in 1982. (I know I spent a lot more time playing the arcade game.) We are getting a third movie, 'Tron: Ares,' in October — but first we get a new game, Tron: Catalyst. You are Exo, an advanced computer program in a glitchy electronic world. You'll need to fight malware with your Identity Disc or run from it on your Light Cycle as you try to escape a malevolent entity called Conn. Developer Bithell Games' previous release, Tron: Identity, was a tightly focused mystery, and Catalyst looks to expand upon its stylish metaverse. Boot up Tuesday on PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S, Switch and PC.

Dakota Fanning said ‘yes' to ‘The Perfect Couple' the moment she heard Nicole Kidman was involved, without knowing anything else about the show

Dakota Fanning laughs while recalling her spontaneous decision to join Netflix's suspense drama The Perfect Couple. "The first thing they said was, 'You're Nicole [Kidman]'s daughter-in-law, you're pregnant, and you're the murderer,' and I was like, 'Yes!'" The Emmy-nominated actor tells Gold Derby, "I was introduced to the project through Susanne Bier, who I had worked with before and became very close to. She called me, and told me a bit about the character. I don't even think she told me the title of the show or the book that it was based on. She said Nicole Kidman was involved, and I said yes. That was my introduction to it, and then, of course, I read the scripts and found out who was playing all the other parts, and as the cast was coming together I got more and more excited, but Susanne and Nicole were the two biggest draws for me." More from GoldDerby Roy Wood Jr. on how 'Lonely Flowers' became his most personal special to date 'He feels like he's the smartest guy there': 'Abbott Elementary's' William Stanford Davis on Mr. Johnson's 'veneer' of 'mystery' 'The Shining' at 45: How Stanley Kubrick's Stephen King adaptation became the Razzies biggest regret The actress "would do anything for Susanne" and had never worked with Kidman before. "I was super excited to do that, and it just came together in the most seamless way," she continues. "The story turned out to be so juicy, and I was getting to play a character that I really felt like I had never played before. I got to be a part of such an incredible ensemble of actors, and we just had the absolute best time." SEE 'The Perfect Couple': Nicole Kidman is awards-bound for juicy Netflix hit The Perfect Couple was created by showrunner Jenna Lamia and Emmy-winning director Bier, based on Elin Hilderbrand's 2018 novel. The six-part mystery limited series stars Oscar and Emmy winner Kidman as celebrated author Greer Garrison Winbury, with nine-time Emmy nominee Liev Schreiber playing her husband Tag. Eve Hewson and Billy Howle portray engaged couple Amelia Sacks and Benji Winbury, Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy plays Amelia's best friend, and Fanning co-stars as Benji's sister-in-law Abby, with Jack Reynor, Ishaan Khatter, and Donna Lynne Champlin rounding out the ensemble cast. Set in the luxury of Nantucket, the story follows the extravagant wedding of Amelia and Benji, which is thrown into chaos when a dead body is found on the morning of the ceremony. As investigators dig deeper, long-buried secrets come to light, placing everyone in the wedding party under suspicion. The series blends elements of mystery and family drama, exploring the darker undercurrents of privilege, love, and deception, keeping viewers on edge through its twists and layered storytelling. "Susanne's just the greatest partner an actor could have," Fanning proclaims. "Jack Reynor, who played my husband; it was like we were on our own show, the two of us a lot of the time, doing our own thing. We became so close. He's such a great actor. We leaned into the heightened nature of our characters and their marriage and had the greatest time. There was not one person that didn't just fit right in, like we all just became really fast friends. Eve is one of my really good friends in real life for years. So, getting to work with her was such a dream. We were all on the same page and on the same team and really having fun with it. And I think people can really tell that when they watch the show. It's fun when the real chemistry is actually there and it's not pretend." Netflix As for the show's marquee star, Fanning is as endearingly effusive as ever. "She's such an icon. She is one of a kind, and she continues to push her own limits and boundaries. She is constantly stretching herself into new characters and spaces. I don't know how she gets it all done — she seemingly is defying the laws of time and space with her career and also having a really wonderful personal life, too," she says. "It was really inspiring to watch her work and get to know her as a person. She has such an amazing sense of humor, is really funny and really warm, and is still really down for the adventure of being an actor, so many years into her career, which I'm very inspired by, and hope to emulate as I continue mine." Fanning plays a pivotal role in the series, portraying a privileged and often acerbic social climber with aplomb, giving the actor the chance to flesh out a character unlike any she has played before. "The character as a whole felt new, because people haven't seen me play this particular kind of character before. She's a little bitchy, she says socially unacceptable things in a very light, breezy tone, as if they're totally normal. She is pregnant and would like everyone to know at all times," she smiles. "She says these quips and remarks as if they're totally normal and I really enjoyed getting to play a character like her who worships Nicole's character, her mother-in-law, and is trying to be like her at all times, so much so to the point that she doesn't even know who she is anymore or what her real opinions are," Fanning notes. "She's constantly trying to fit into this mold and living in this kind of warped reality. And that's the thing that I also loved about the show itself, which you don't realize right away, but as we got into it, the heightened tone developed over time. Everyone looks like it's a real-life world and a real-life family, but everything has the volume turned up a little bit, and it's aware of itself in a particular way, which was really fun to play with as an actor, and I think also fun to watch as a viewer." Fanning has gone from strength to strength over the years, from her early days as a child actor, to her first Emmy nomination last year for the Netflix limited series Ripley. 'To be nominated for something is very exciting, and I was just happy for everyone, happy for all of us, that it was recognized in that way. It's something you can always hold on to and look back on. And so it was very special and unexpected, and I was very thrilled to be there.' Asked about one of the highlights of her career to date, Fanning looks back on working on Steven Spielberg's 2005 sci-fi thriller remake of War of the Worlds, which she filmed when she was 10 years old. 'Working on a movie directed by Steven Spielberg with Tom Cruise, it doesn't get more 'making a movie' than that. It's peak 'making a movie.' And I knew that at the time, and I look back on that experience and am so grateful for it because of getting to know the two of them,' she explains. 'The mark of a great director is where people want to work with them again and again and again, and would do anything for them. And so, I really saw that with Steven." Trump set to attend first day of Iowa State Fair in August

Washington — President Trump intends to open the Iowa State Fair on the first day of the 11-day event in August, according to sources familiar with the plan, revisiting a presidential campaign ritual in a state that helped deliver his return to the White House. Mr. Trump's visit, marked on the White House calendar for Aug. 7, is seen as an effort to shore up farm country for Republicans and to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation's independence. Vice President JD Vance is also planning to attend the fair, but on a different day, according to one of the sources. Further details are expected to be locked in by late June. White House spokespeople declined to comment. Mr. Trump was last at the Iowa State Fair in August 2023, five months before the first votes in the GOP presidential primary contest, when his campaign was overshadowed by legal troubles, including an election conspiracy case. He has told advisers that he had a great time on that visit on the third day of the fair, relishing the spectacle that included a flyover in his private jet as his chief competitor, Ron DeSantis, was in the middle of an event, surrounded by reporters. On a stroll around the fairgrounds, Mr. Trump was mobbed with people, and attendance spiked to a record for the year with more than 118,000 visitors. He won the Iowa caucuses in January 2024 by about 30 points. Former President Donald Trump tossed a hat in the air while supporters cheer for him during the 2023 Iowa State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023. Demetrius Freeman/The Washington Post via Getty Images A year ago, Mr. Trump said that if he were elected again, he would organize a big bash ahead of the nation's semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026, with a year-long exhibition that he hoped would be hosted at the Iowa State Fairgrounds with "pavilions from all 50 states." The state fair is a summer reunion for Iowans that showcases agriculture and middle America, with a life-sized cow sculpted out of butter, vendors selling deep-fried treats, carnival rides and animal shows. Iowa, the first state in the GOP primary calendar, has already attracted other politicians from both parties in recent weeks. Mr. Trump has repeatedly said his supports want him to run again, but he signaled in a May interview with NBC News that he wouldn't try to seek a third term, which is barred under the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. "It's something that, to the best of my knowledge, you're not allowed to do," Mr. Trump said in May. "I'll be an eight-year president," he added. "I'll be a two-term president." Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, spoke at a state party event in Cedar Rapids on May 29. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a n independent from Vermont, delivered remarks in February in Iowa City, as part of his "Fight Oligarchy" tour. His team also held organizing calls in competitive congressional districts in April. In 2023, the Democratic National Committee stripped Iowa of its "first in the nation" status in the party's nominating process. The DNC has not yet set its primary calendar for 2028. Mr. Trump first attended the fair as a reality television star, real estate mogul and presidential hopeful in 2015, when he gave children a ride on his personal helicopter and sought to outshine Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Sanders, who were there at the same time. He returned to the fairgrounds to speak at a fundraising event for Sen. Joni Ernst in 2016 and held a rally there in fall 2021.
