Jen Pawol's umpire scorecard: How'd she do in MLB debut?

And just how did Pawol do in arbitrating the Atlanta Braves-Miami Marlins clash Sunday in Atlanta?
Pretty darn well.
Pawol called 93% of balls and strikes correctly, according to Umpire Scorecards, which places her in the bottom third of umpire performance this season, but very much in line with her peers.
Pawol, 48, brought more than 1,200 games of minor league experience to her fill-in assignment, necessitated because the Marlins and Braves played a weekend doubleheader, disrupting the usual umpire rotation.
She called 140 of 151 balls and strikes correctly, according to Umpire Scorecards, which simulates every pitch 500 times and, using a dizzying array of factors, aims to create what it calls "interpretability, validity, practicality, and fairness."
Pawol's 92.72% hit rate puts her nose-to-nose with a bevy of full-time MLB umpires, including veterans Laz Diaz (92.64%) and CB Bucknor (92.85), who tend to draw the ire of fans, along with the more anonymous Bruce Dreckman (92.76) and Carlos Torres (93.13%).
The median percentage for all umpires this season is 94%, or, Pawol's percentage had two more calls been determined correct. Edwin Jimenez, also a Class AAA fill-in umpire in his third year calling balls and strikes in the majors, leads all umpires with 96.48% accuracy in 19 plate assignments.
In fact, the 16 Triple-A fill-ins have acquitted themselves quite well, producing a 94.46 median in 10 games. Pawol? She's umped one game, a sample size statistically insignificant as far as assessing her performance.
Yet in the most important metric - did the home plate umpire impact the game? - Pawol did just fine, "favoring" the Marlins by 0.28 runs, per Umpire Scorecards. The Braves won the game 7-1.
You might say, then, that Pawol earned the greatest compliment an ump could receive: Other than her trailblazing distinction, you'd have hardly noticed her.
"We certainly didn't call her up from A-ball, right?" said Marlins starter Cal Quantrill, per MLB.com. "I'm sure she was well-prepared, and I think part of the game moving forward is if this is normal, then we're gonna treat it normal, too. I thought it was fine, and I think she did a quality job.
"She should be very proud of herself, and it's kind of a cool little thing to be a part of it. But yeah, just another day."
One that figures to be repeated.

Braves erase 6-run deficit to slay White Sox

August 20 - Drake Baldwin delivered a two-run single with two outs in the eighth inning as the Atlanta Braves rallied from a six-run deficit to beat the visiting Chicago White Sox 11-10 on Tuesday. Michael Harris II and Jurickson Profar each delivered a two-run homer to stay hot for Atlanta, which has won five of its last six games. Dylan Lee (2-3) pitched a perfect eighth and Raisel Iglesias retired the White Sox in order in the ninth for his 20th save. One night after posting season highs in runs and hits (19) during Monday's 13-9 victory over Atlanta in the series opener, the White Sox took a 10-4 lead on Kyle Teel's two-run homer in the sixth inning. Atlanta rallied with five runs in the seventh. Ronald Acuna Jr. singled in a run, Baldwin drew a bases-loaded walk and Ozzie Albies hit a two-run single before a run scored on Nacho Alvarez Jr.'s groundout. The Braves moved ahead in the eighth after loading the bases with one out against Tyler Alexander (4-11). After Steven Wilson entered and got Marcell Ozuna to pop out, Baldwin delivered a two-run single for the lead. Harris extended his hitting streak to 12 games and gave the Braves a first-inning lead with his second homer in as many games, a two-run shot against Shane Smith. Chicago moved ahead with three runs in the third against Bryce Elder when Edgar Quero scored on Mike Tauchman's groundout and Teel doubled in two runs. The Braves regained the lead on Profar's two-run shot in the fourth. The 437-foot blast was Profar's 10th homer of the season and fourth in his last three games. Smith pitched six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Chicago knocked Elder out of the game in the fifth while scoring five runs on five hits. After Miguel Vargas and Lenyn Sosa each singled in a run, Andrew Benintendi walked to load the bases before Luis Robert Jr. doubled in two to make it 8-4. Elder gave up eight runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out three. --Field Level Media

Miami Marlins coach caught calling his OWN PLAYER a 'ginger f***' in bizarre hot mic moment on live TV

Marlins assistant hitting coach Derek Shomon had an explicit way of congratulating a player on Sunday as he was heard playfully cursing at Eric Wagaman. Wagaman hit his seventh home run of the season in the third inning as his solo bomb gave his team a 1-0 lead against the Red Sox. And as Wagaman made his way back to the dugout afterwards, TV microphones caught Shomon offering some curious praise of the red-haired 28-year-old. 'You ginger f***,' he shouted as he high-fived the Wagaman. The utility player wound up going 2-for-4 in the game as the Marlins pulled off a ninth inning high-wire act to win the game Miami scored three runs in the final inning to surge into the lead and ultimately earn a 5-3 win in Boston. And Wagaman kept his momentum going on Monday night as he homered again versus the Cardinals. However, his team fell 8-3 against St. Louis, falling to 59-66 on the season and 7.5 games out of the final NL wild card spot as of writing. Miami surprisingly put themselves in the playoff contention earlier this summer as they went on an eight-game win streak and at one point won 14 of 20 games. However, they've crashed back to earth of late as Monday's loss represented their 11th loss in 15 games. In his second major league season, Wagaman is hitting .236 with 41 RBIs. The Marlins will host the Cardinals again on Tuesday and Wednesday.
